Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

COVID Issues

Cole Tucker and Bryan Reynolds were placed on the COVID-IL. As of the time of this writing, the Pirates were waiting on test results so this may be precautionary.

Quick Hits

Chris Ellis was placed on the IL with a shoulder issue. There is no timetable for his return.

Jordan Hicks was removed from his start on Tuesday after being hit in the wrist with a comebacker. X-rays were negative following the game. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Mike Zunino left Tuesday’s game with a bicep injury. He is not expected to miss much time. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Kevin Newman left Tuesday’s game with a groin issue. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Adalberto Mondesi was removed from Tuesday’s game with a knee issue. Manager Mike Matheny stated that the initial exam on the injury seemed encouraging, so hopefully he will not miss much time. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Various News and Notes

Sheldon Neuse went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases in the loss versus the Giants on Tuesday. Neuse has been really good, hitting .327/.397/.404 with a homer and three stolen bases this season in 58 plate appearances. Recently, he has been playing third base regularly and hitting second in the lineup. Speed isn’t supposed to be a huge part of the profile, but he has a decent hit tool and pop in the bat. He is worth scooping in 12 and 15 team formats.

Chris Paddack threw 5.2 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out six.

Paddack had his best start of the season, showing a true three pitch mix and getting a 33% CSW overall. Just as impressive was his command within the zone, which has eluded in recent seasons. If he can continue to show these improvements, he could be back on his way to being the stud we saw early in his career.

Daniel Lynch threw six scoreless innings in the victory over the White Sox, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Lynch was really good in this outing, showing very good command and control while mixing his pitches well. There isn’t a ton of strikeout upside and he was helped by a White Sox lineup without two of their best players, but this is a really encouraging sign for a former top prospect.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today:  Cristian Javier at TEX

Javier is joining the rotation and has looked great thus far.

High Risk Options: Glen Otto vs HOU, Michael Pineda at MIN, Aaron Ashby at PIT, Erick Fedde vs MIA, Michael Wacha at TOR, Drew Rasmussen vs SEA.

Pitcher for Tomorrow:  Brad Keller at CHW

Keller has been really good so far and has a nice matchup versus a White Sox team without Eloy and possibly without Robert.

High Risk Options: Reid Detmers vs CLE, Bruce Zimmermann at NYY, Drew Smyly at ATL, Nick Martinez at CIN.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
