The Sleeper and the Bust DFS Contest
Every Tuesday, Paul Sporer and I host a DFS contest for the Sleeper and the Bust podcast. Congrats to this week’s winner:

Various News and Notes
Carlos Carrasco was removed from Tuesday’s start after he injured himself while covering first base on this play:

Carrasco was able to pitch after the injury before being pulled. The Indians are characterizing the move as precautionary, but he is scheduled for an MRI. Consider him day-to-day until we know more.

Bryan Reynolds was removed from Tuesday’s game after injuring his leg on Tuesday. The injury is being described as a “tweak” so it doesn’t appear to be overly serious, but there was no update as of writing this article. Consider him day-to-day at this time.

Brandon Nimmo was removed from Tuesday’s game after injuring his oblique. The Mets are saying the move was precautionary so this may not be as serious as most oblique injuries. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Addison Russell will begin playing in AAA today. Russell is serving a 40-game suspension for violating the domestic violence policy of Major League Baseball and is eligible to return on May 3rd. He should be scooped up in deeper leagues where he might still be available.

Manager Mike Schlidt stated that the Cardinals plan to use Carlos Martinez as a reliever when he returns from the Injured List. This is disappointing news as Jordan Hicks has already established himself as the closer in St. Louis, so C-Mart will likely take on a Josh Hader like role. Martinez is not expected to start a rehab assignment until next week at the earliest.

Streaming Pitching Options (Less than 50% owned)
Pitcher for Today: Merrill Kelly vs PIT
Kelly has been up and down this season, but the Pirates are banged up right now and I am willing to take a shot that Kelly can take advantage.

High Risk Options: Felix Pena vs NYY
That Yankees’ lineup is really bad and I will stream against them from time to time.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

High Risk Options: None
When your only options are Trevor Cahill, Jordan Zimmermann, and Adrian Sampson, you should just pass on streaming.

Is it correct that the RR no longer covers baseball that was played, just roster moves and injury news?

That seems true when Mason writes it. Werner typically provides more in depth analysis, but I believe he only does Friday and the weekends.

I’m not sure exzctly what you’re saying. The purpose is, “The most roto-relevant news of the previous day, recapped in a concise format for your morning coffee.” Are you stating that you agree that only injury updates and roster moves are the most roto-relevant news?

In the past the RR, tended to highlight a lot of recent good/bad performances that might suggest change in talent or playing time, and players to keep on the radar. This was a HUGE help to find new, interesting players. News on injury and roster changes is a lot easier to find so it’s not quite as essential, particularly since most tend to only be relevant to people who own the players.

I would hope that RR continues to find those hidden gem players.

Exactly. Just look at today’s RR for comparison. First read in the AM for me is scanning the headlines, then on to the RR. But if the RR is just regurgitating the roster move and injury headlines with no analysis then there’s no point.
