Paul Sporer Rotographs Chat – September 8th, 2016

Another strong chat in the books!

2:06
Paul Sporer: Hey y’all! We’ll get started in just a second.

2:08
Boris: Do you think Bradley Zimmer gets called up this year?

2:11
Paul Sporer: Is AAA in the playoffs? I could see him getting a cup of coffee, but hard to *project* much fantasy value

2:11
Martin: YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

2:11
Paul Sporer: Sup

2:12
Minty: 10 team/30 man roster OBP, $200 cap. Are you ok with Baez $3/$4 the next 2 as my utility infielder and Moncada $2/$3 as a speculative?

2:13
Paul Sporer: How many do y’all keep? In principle I’m OK w/both

2:15
Daniel: So Tapia had a very quiet call up for a top 100 prospect. In a 12 team keeper, should I maybe ditch Odubel and snag him? Regardless, it’d be nice if he added 30 lbs of muscle.

2:16
Paul Sporer: I have some concerns about Tapia (particularly his bizarre 2-strike approach), but Coors covers a lot of ills. For the rest of the year, I’m OK w/him over Odubel, but going fwd I still prefer Odie

2:16
Brian: Start garcia v mil today?

2:17
Paul Sporer: what kinda league?

2:17
Johnny Mac: In a vacume, for a keeper league with OPS and K’s, would you take Bregman or Bennitendi?

2:18
Paul Sporer: *gets a coin to flip*

2:18
Paul Sporer: I have a hard time finding much separation between the pair, but I’ll go Breg barely

2:18
Rich: Any of these pitchers make a major impact in 2017-Cotton, A. Mejia, Espinoza, C. Adams. Thanks

2:19
Paul Sporer: Maybe Cotton and it’ll be deep league only, IMO

2:19
JT: Should we be worried about Bogaerts?

2:19
Paul Sporer: Kinda wanna see how he finishes first, tbh. If he’s back to himself in Sept., then Aug. is just a bad month. Does he have any nagging injuries? I’m not aware of any myself

2:20
Johnny Mac: Who’s a good streaming option for this weekend (Friday included)

2:20
Paul Sporer: Why don’t you show me a few names you’re considering and I’ll give you my thoughts

2:20
Paul Sporer: This guy, out here trying to get me to do all the work! 🙂

2:21
Brian: What’s German marquez’s ceiling?

2:21
Paul Sporer: Fantasy-wise it’s always going to be muted by Coors, so probably a fantasy #5-6

2:21
Brett Lawrie’s Empty Redbull Can: Hey Paul – what are your thoughts on Danny Salazar for next year? He was a no-brainer keeper for me early on but the injuries are scary

2:22
Paul Sporer: That’s why no pitchers is ever truly a no-brainer keeper, tbh. Some you HAVE to keep because of great prices, but they’re SO volatile. The upside is still worth betting on even w/the injury worries

2:22
big boy: hey Paul now that we’ve seen the good and bad of musgrove, what do you see him doing in 2017?

2:23
Paul Sporer: Like a 3.80 ERA, low-1.20s WHIP, and average-to-slightly-above Ks (7.7 is SP avg)

2:23
Martin: Who finished 2017 ranked higher? Myers, Desmond, Springer or Kinsler? Standard roto league.

2:24
Paul Sporer: Springer

2:24
Daniel: RE: Salazar: If you had to choose between him or Joe Ross for next year in a 12 team?

2:24
Paul Sporer: Salazar

2:24
Lenny: Hey Paul, what are your thoughts on Wil Myers from here on? His previous GP total has me concerned that he’s hit the wall. Thanks.

2:26
Paul Sporer: That’s fair. Or maybe not a wall, but another nagging injury or two. Or, ORRRR… and I say this as a big Myers backer… maybe his one great month was a bit fluky. OPS by month: .853, .597, 1.194, .695, .644, .575

2:27
Bringer of Dinger: Rank these sluggers for the rest of this season. Bour, Moss, Beltran, Cron, T. Joseph. CHURCH

2:28
Paul Sporer: Which of these Church uses were you using? http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=church&defid=1027367

2:28
Paul Sporer: Moss, Bour, Beltran, Joseph, Cron

2:28
Fast Eddie: Owings ($1) and Incarte (6) OR S. Marte ($34) for 2017? 5×5, OBP league

2:28
Paul Sporer: Still prefer Marte even at the higher cost

2:28
Daniel: What about Salazar or Porcello?

2:28
Paul Sporer: Sal

2:29
Seth: what do you see as odor’s potential next year? 30-20 with 290 avg?

2:30
Paul Sporer: Where’s the 20 SB coming from? He could go random Machado spike, but no reason to project it. I’d see more pop before a surge in SBs

2:30
Reggie: It was supposed to be strasburg and degrom against awful lineups for the fantasy playoffs now that plan is squandered 🙁
We will need your streaming help Paul.

2:30
Paul Sporer: Got a piece coming on some cheap Ks later so stay tuned there

2:30
Paul Sporer: The guys in that piece are essentially streamers

2:30
Seth: teheran or pineda for 2017?

2:30
Paul Sporer: Teheran

2:33
Gest: Can you give your insight on Boyd? How legit is he and does he matchup well against Minnesota?

2:37
Paul Sporer: He’s a solid arm and was a big piece of that Price deal. He’s certainly over his head some right now. His LOB% since recall when he’s taken off is 90%. That’s obscene. He’s been good v. MIN twice during this run, though, so I do like him in that matchup. Just can’t let Dozier go yak on him

2:37
Friend: In my fantasy H2H playoffs trying to advance to finals. Dee Gordon is utterly useless right now and I may drop him if he doesn’t wake up this weekend. Candidates to replace him include Nick Franklin, Freddy Galvis, or Zack Cozart. I don’t necessarily need steals, just a productive hitter. Thoughts?

2:39
Paul Sporer: Cozart has been the worst results-wise of the bunch in the 2H, but he’s my pick for the final few weeks. His plate skills and power are just better

2:39
Leites: What’s the upside for 2017 Alex Meyer?

2:39
Paul Sporer: Solid closer

2:39
Greg: Have you examined wily peralta? He’s been awesome against stl and chc. Not sure if it’s legit given his track record but his competition level will be decreasing in his next two. Thoughts?

2:39
Paul Sporer: I haven’t. I’ll take a look

2:41
Paul Sporer: Still allowing too many homers, but he’s been solid since returning in early-Aug. I used to have some love for Wily, but I’m dubious right now

2:41
Brett Lawrie’s Empty Redbull Can: sold off most of my secondary assets with the thought that Salazar would be my 5th keeper (I wasn’t competitive but have Machado, Arenado, Cano, Cueot as keepers). Would you keep Salazar or any one of the following: Benintendi, V-Mart, Joc or Khris Davis

2:41
Paul Sporer: I saw your msg about standard 5×5, but how many teams?

2:41
Greg: How confident are you in Manaea post-injury against KC?

2:43
Paul Sporer: I’ve grown a little more cautious of non-stars off injury. I like Manaea a lot, but I’d still avoid this start outside of 18+ team mixers or any AL only leagues

2:43
Daniel: Who woke up Abreu?

2:43
Paul Sporer: Same person who go to J Up?

2:44
Paul Sporer: got to*

2:45
Leites: How good is Dan Altavilla’s secondary stuff?

2:45
Paul Sporer: First off, happy birthday to Dan!

2:45
Paul Sporer: He’s got a good slider

2:49
zurzles: how legit is Chatwood out of Coors? best away ERA in the majors, but his K/BB is still garbage

2:51
Paul Sporer: Yes the K/BB is still booty, but his weak contact-inducing ways play better away from Coors. All contact is dangerous at Coors, but elsewhere it can really work.

2:51
Jason Derulo: David Murphy or Villar for the next 2 years? J Gray or Alex Reyes?

2:51
Paul Sporer: Villar and Reyes. You might mean Daniel, though

2:52
John: Hey Paul, not sure if you saw or if anyone told you about it but during Eno’s latest chat, a gentleman was describing a dream he had that made me chuckle: “Had a dream the other night. Was looking to buy a present for girl I had a crush on in high school. Couldn’t find anything good. Then the Sleeper and the Bust podcast came on. It was a video edition. And Eno was getting chased by a very aggressive fan yelling about Alex Bregman. The chase went on for a while, but I didn’t get to see how it ended cause Sporer cut in complaining about the audio quality. What does it all mean?”

2:52
Paul Sporer: LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

2:52
Snowflake: Hey I don’t want to start anything between you two, but Eno said he wanted to fight a whole flock of beagles

2:52
Paul Sporer: I wanna pour 9 cases of high quality beer for no good reason

2:53
Paul Sporer: pour out*… typin too fast

2:54
Azizal: What do you think of Jose Peraza for 2017? He’s been crazy good these past few weeks. A lot has been BABIP driven (partly legit given contact/speed), but he’s also hitting for some power. Playing time could be an issue but he and Hamilton might be fun to watch together.

2:55
Paul Sporer: I think they like him so they’ll be finding ways to play him which can yield HUGE speed. I’m suspect on the hitting, but he can go .270 AVG/.310 OBP with throngs of SBs

3:01
Brett Lawrie’s Empty Redbull Can: sorry, 12 teams. I’m stocked with draft picks too so tempted to take a flyer on Benintendi

3:01
Paul Sporer: Ya I can actually get behind it. It’s risky and I’d lean toward it NOT working if I had to make a projection, but the upside is substantial so go for it if you’re feeling it

3:02
Friend: Kevin Kiermaier over the last 30 days: .306/.352/.469. Am I wrong to be excited about this guy down the stretch?

3:02
Paul Sporer: No I don’t think you are. I had some excitement about him coming into this season and that injury stunted it

3:03
Brian: Re: garcia. H2h uses k/bb and qs in addition to era, whip,Ks

3:04
Paul Sporer: Ya, I’d go for it. Up and down year for him, but he’s consistently handled MIL

3:04
Phantom of the Chakras: Hi Paul. Was happy to hear you and Eno show some hope for Berrios. Did you see anything in his last start to move the needle? Yes, he got blown out again, but not until the 5th inning this time!

3:05
Paul Sporer: I didn’t see the recent outing. I do like only 1 BB, though.

3:05
zurzles: Start Guerra vs STL today in a points league with QS and a GS limit (6 games remaining in playoff match, not many options)?

3:06
Paul Sporer: I think I would go ahead and gamble on this one

3:06
Bringer of Dinger: 4. slang for good bye, similar to peace.

3:06
Paul Sporer: OK, I thought so. But also thought maybe Ryan Church was back

3:06
Jason Derulo: Silly me, of course I meant Daniel. Why so confident in Villar over Daniel?

3:07
Paul Sporer: Those SBs are just so game-changing given the lack of them across the league. Nothing against Daniel, I’m very pro-Daniel, but I’m geeked on Villar’s profile

3:07
Bringer of Dinger: Cool Ranch or regular Doritos?

3:07
Paul Sporer: Reg

3:07
Paul Sporer: Liked CR when I was younger

3:07
Johnny Mac: Streaming for this weekend- Snell, Pineda, Estrada, Iwakuma? I’m leaning Snell but idk

3:10
Paul Sporer: TB has CRUSHED Pineda or I’d look at him. Man, he’s frustrating af. Can’t do Estrada v. BOS. So ya, I’m w/you on Snell

3:10
Bringer of Dinger: Moss is like 1 for 30 right now.

3:12
Paul Sporer: Ya I didn’t realize he was THAT ice-cold. But they got all righties this week and power comes in spurts. Still like him rest of month

3:12
Seth: teheran or keuchel for 2017?

3:12
Paul Sporer: Teheran

3:12
X: Who are your top 5 shortstop prospects in OPS dynasty leagues?

3:12
Paul Sporer: I have no idea. That’s tough to just rifle off in a chat.

3:12
Snowflake: If you only ever use SeatGeek, how do you know it has the best prices? You gotta shop around bro

3:12
Paul Sporer: They do the work, chief. But feel free to use what you’d like! 🙂

3:13
Mischa: Churning through 2-3 back end roster slots to maximize production. Which of these are most important:
1. BVP
2. 15-day trend
3. the pitcherRH LH splits

3:13
Mischa: * 4. rh lh splits

3:14
Paul Sporer: 4, 3, 2, flipping a coin, quitting fantasy baseball, using Tebow, 1

3:14
Snowflake: Keep Villar, Dahl or Dirty Gary?

3:14
Paul Sporer: That’s the order for me, much to the chagrin of Sanchize lovers

3:15
Jomaha: Hi Paul, would you rather go with Jankowski or Kiermaier in a 5×5 standard 12 teamer ROS?

3:16
Paul Sporer: Jankowski makes Moss look like he’s on fire, lol. Gimme Kiermaier.

3:16
Minty: The Baez/Moncada keeper question from the beginning was where we keep 20ish players per team.

3:17
Paul Sporer: Oh then I’m WAY in on both

3:17
Jeff: I’m thinking about keeping both Peraza and Villar in my unlimited keeper league, probably at 2B and SS, respectively. Would you recommend keeping speed, or should I be prioritizing power instead as that’s more important?

3:17
Paul Sporer: Power is more important, but these 2 are game-changing in speed. And Villar isn’t a total power dud. I’m OK keeping both.

3:17
Paul Sporer: Alright y’all, gotta get going. Just gonna do a few more quick hitters.

3:17
Friend: How you feeling about Mike Fulmer down the stretch? He just looks flat-out fatigued, but the Tigers have no choice but to keep riding him right?

3:18
Paul Sporer: Ya, he seems to have hit a bit of a wall and I agree that they’re still gonna keep going to him.

3:25
Johnny Baseball: please rank for 2017: Gselmen, Conley, Folty, Tyler Anderson, AJ Cole

3:25
Paul Sporer: Conley, Anderson, Cole, Foly, Gsellman

3:28
Paul Sporer: OK, y’all, I gotta run

3:28
Paul Sporer: Feel free to bring your streamer questions for the rest of the season and keeper questions for 2017 to next week’s chat. Also non-fantasy baseball Qs work this time year, too. Take care.
