Paul Sporer Rotographs Chat: August 4th, 2016

Chat begins around 2 PM Central!

2:01
Cronut Burger: It’s Benintendi time!!! What do you expect from him ROS and next season?

2:02
Paul Sporer: I’m pretty conservative on rookies, plus he’s coming from AA. .270, 4 HRs, 2 SBs

2:02
Tony: I continuously attempt to temper my expectations with Michael Fulmer, and yet he keeps dealing. Is it too soon for us to bring him into the conversation of top-20 starter?

2:02
Paul Sporer: He’s close, but I’m not quite sure he’s top-20 just yet. The AL is so weak that he’s definitely very high within his own league

2:02
DB: Who do you like ROS for OF depth and speed…Rajai or Leonys?

2:02
Paul Sporer: Rajai

2:02
Jim: Is Tyson Ross dead

2:02
Paul Sporer: Not to my knowledge

2:05
Chris: Do we see David Robertson get dealt this month? If not, think he hangs on to the closer’s gig all season?

2:06
Paul Sporer: I think they’ll be open to dealing him if they can slide him through to someone. Next bad blow up could earn him at least a break from the role unless it’s a month from now

2:06
this is not my real name: I’m hurting for wins and strikeouts in redraft format. The pitching on the wire is pretty thin, but the top options appear to be Berrios, Cashner, Eovaldi, Giolito, Nova and Bailey. How would you rank them going forward? Would you ditch Bregman or Musgrove for any of them?

2:07
Paul Sporer: Cashner, Berrios, and Musgrove are probably my favorite options of that group. I think Bregman might still have enough juice in the market to trade him instead of flat cutting him

2:07
Texas Dolly: Sam Dyson hasn’t exactly been dominating hitters lately like he did the first few months of the season. At the very least, did his leash get a little shorter with the addition of Jeffress?

2:07
Paul Sporer: Ya I can see it being shorter

2:08
Minty: 10 team, OBP, 30 roster, 8 bench with Arenado, Bryant, and a please stay at SS Correa. When should I stash Moncada at a keep forever price?

2:08
Paul Sporer: Might as well now if you really want him. Just takes one other person to mess your whole plan. If your league is aggressive on prospects, gotta move now

2:09
Dumpster Fiers: Time to cut Puig in a dynasty league? I’m tired of the headache, but I’m certain he will be traded and find his groove as soon as I drop him.

2:09
Paul Sporer: I’m reluctant to completely give up on him, but I get it. Is there NO way to trade him?

2:09
taylor: K’s and S’s matter, rank new closers ROS – Betances, Giles, Diaz, Oh, Watson

2:09
Paul Sporer: You just did

2:10
RRR: Musgrove or McCarthy ROS?

2:11
Paul Sporer: Really love Musgrove, but McCarthy is worth the gamble while healthy

2:11
Ricky Bobby: Is it okay to get excited for Taijuan Walker’s return? I feel like that guy has a Cy Young year in him if he can stay healthy.

2:12
Paul Sporer: Of course. I still love Walker. If you’re looking for someone who can really move the needle in the rest of the season, he’s up there

2:12
forever it: Traded Khris Davis for Smyly in a dynasty league, reasonable?

2:12
Paul Sporer: It’s reasonable, but I prefer Davis

2:12
Li’l Papi: So just to be sure, is there any chance Big Papi could un-retire?

2:12
Paul Sporer: I don’t think he will, but there is always a chance

2:12
MASH: Thoughts on Jake Thompson when he arrives?

2:12
Paul Sporer: He’s a big arm. Could be legit

2:12
Sammy: Super specific question but I really hope you’ll answer. I have a top 3 offense in my 11-team AL-only league. Drop my entire free agent budget on Lucroy or go the rest of the way with Sandy Leon?

2:12
Paul Sporer: I’d push on Lucroy

2:13
Don: Do you see Severino joining NYY rotation? Will he be effective?

2:14
Paul Sporer: Yes at some point, and of course I have no idea if he will be effective. Looked like fire last night, though. I’d still rate Walker a good bit higher, but Sevvy has the kind of stuff that can move the needle, too

2:14
Jays Fan: Shapiro says the Jays are moving Sanchez to the pen, then Gibby comes out yesterday saying nothing’s been 100% decided. Everything points to the move happening, but any chance the Jays could reverse course last minute? Also, what say you on the whole issue?

2:16
Paul Sporer: It’s pretty much a CYA situation because if they double his IP (which they’d have to for him to finish the season) and then he gets hurt, they’d get killed for it. Even by some of those pushing for him to stay in (nice when you don’t have to be accountable for what you say, huh?). I think the data suggests that a move to the pen doesn’t do anything to markedly decrease his chances at injury, though. So unless he’s ACTUALLY tiring and showing wear-down effects, I’d keep him in the rotation

2:16
Ya Habibi: Abreau has been such a bummer. Any optimism for him from now on? I’m tempted to drop him for Gyorko.

2:16
Paul Sporer: It’s been rough. The league has adjusted and he hasn’t pushed back. I have a hard time dropping him for Jedd, though

2:16
Dade Wavis: Think we see Wade Davis pitch again this season?

2:16
Paul Sporer: Unfortunately, no. I think he’s headed for TJ at some point 🙁

2:16
Untitled1: Is Solarte the most underrated player in baseball right now?

2:17
Paul Sporer: He’s up there. I’m a big Solarte fan. I was bummed when he got hurt

2:17
Erik: Would you waive Dave Robertson or Santiago Casilla for Bedrosian or Thornburg?

2:17
Paul Sporer: I think SF is more inclined to push Casilla out of role than DRob in Chicago so I’d cut Casilla for Bedrock

2:17
Rick: Thoughts on Musgrove ROS? Will he stay in rotation?

2:18
Paul Sporer: BIg big fan. I think he’ll get an audition, but unless he’s just too good to move out, he’ll go back to pen when McCullers returns

2:18
Julie: Would you drop bregman for benintendi in a dynasty league? Is bregman getting sent down for gurriel?

2:18
Paul Sporer: All that hype for Bregman gone after 34 PA? I can’t get behind that, sorry.

2:19
Ryker: Your thoughts on Nathan Eovaldi? I can’t think of a pitcher who has toyed with me and frustrated me more over the past few years. I’ve been done with him multiple times, and every time he does something to at least pique my interest again.

2:19
Paul Sporer: Matt Moore has toyed with me equally as much as Eovaldi. I fall for them every time.

2:19
Seanto: is jose de leon the stud that some say he is?

2:19
Paul Sporer: I mean, maybe. LOL. He’s certainly got some big potential, but he’s not Urias, Alex Reyes, or Giolito level

2:22
Gary Busey: Yo sporer, dynasty league Lamb for Maeda straight up. Who you like?

2:22
Paul Sporer: Lamb. Always the hitter in these kind of close deals.

2:22
Ben Hester: who has more steals ROS: Rajai or Jankowski?

2:22
Paul Sporer: Raj

2:22
Ron: Is Bregman going to be sent back down when Gurriel arrives?

2:22
Paul Sporer: I don’t know

2:22
C3P0: Does Ryon Healy start at 3B for the A’s the rest of the year? Would you consider him to be a meh, good or very good keeper in 2017?

2:23
Paul Sporer: Looks like they’re ready to give him a lengthy audition. League type matters, but i’ll assume AL-only bc that’s where he’s actually keeper-worthy, but it’s still meh

2:23
Sox: Assuming that Matt Shoemaker keeps dealing the rest of the year, how much would you pay for him next season in AL-only and mixed leagues?

2:24
Paul Sporer: $18, $14 off the top of my head

2:24
Leaky Faucet: Who closes for the Minnesota Twins in 2017?

2:24
Paul Sporer: Trevor May

2:24
marcus: we should have a fangraphs party in Austin sometime. that is all

2:24
Paul Sporer: Love it

2:24
Darth: Is G Sanchez a top 5 catcher next season?

2:24
Paul Sporer: That’s aggressive. Top-10 works, though

2:24
Andrew Benintendi: What do you expect from me in 2017?

2:25
Paul Sporer: .280, 13, 8

2:28
Sasha Fierce: 10 tm AL Dynasty: Zunino ($3) and Clint Frazier ($3) for Profar ($6) and Kendrys Morales ($14). Which side?

2:30
Paul Sporer: Side B. I just don’t dig Z

2:31
Jake: Where does Edwin Diaz belong in updated closer rankings? Is he this good?

2:31
Paul Sporer: Hard to fake this. I’ll say top 10 to tone it down, but I can see him being top 5 rest of the way

2:33
Dr. Met: Better fantasy bet, Arcia or Mondesi ROS and 2017?

2:33
Paul Sporer: Arcia

2:34
Matt: So we saw Andrew Miller in the 6th/7th today. Do you want Miller or Cody Allen? Or say screw Cleveland and their games and go with someone who actually has a closer role (Maurer, JJohnson, Barrett, Bedrosian)?

2:36
Paul Sporer: I still want Miller. It’s only been 2 games w/MIN.

2:36
Gina: what should we expect from garret richards next year if anything. Trying to decide if I’m gonna use a keeper spot on him.

2:36
Paul Sporer: I wouldn’t. He could still face a TJ. Love Richards’ talent, but I can’t use a spot in really any league

2:36
Dr. Met: Jesse Hahn good for SP3 territory?

2:37
Paul Sporer: That’s high

2:37
Paul Sporer: He hasn’t shown any real swing-and-miss since ’14

2:37
rustydude: Jeffress or Clippard as a waiver claim in an AL only holds league?

2:39
Paul Sporer: I’ll take DJ Jazzy Jeffress

2:39
Drewser: Thoughts on Justin Bour ROS? Worth a roster spot in 12-team, 5×5, 25-man rosters?

2:42
Paul Sporer: It’s fringy w/him on the DL and power up this year so if you like someone better, it’s OK to move on

2:42
Tony: can trade Belt and 2 picks (7 keepers so pick 8) for Miggy. Worth it? 5th place, top 4 make playoffs.

If he says 8 and 9 to counter my 9-12? Deadline is tomorrow

2:42
Paul Sporer: Miggy went yak as I saw this. He wants to be on your team. Do it.

2:42
Darth: Moncada start next year? Right out of the gate?

2:43
Paul Sporer: I doubt it

2:43
Bregman: Early adjustment period or signs of a bigger problem?

2:43
Paul Sporer: It’s 34 PA. I wouldn’t feel comfortable suggesting it’s a wholesale issue

2:43
Tony: traded polanco for Kluber and Kepler, 14 team, OBP. 5th place, top 4 playoffs. Good deal?

2:43
Paul Sporer: Solid work. And now you get to add Miggy

2:43
JAL: P, you think Dyson holds role RoS? Would u trade Kepler for him in 5×5 redraft if trying to catch up in saves?

2:44
Paul Sporer: Ya, since he and Jeffress are clones (w/Dyson a tick better in a few things), I think he holds it barring a few more hiccups in quick succession. That trade works

2:44
Snowflake: What’s your ranking for the next 2 years of Benintendi, Dahl, Bregman, and Kepler?

2:50
Paul Sporer: Dahl, Bregman, Kepler, Benintendi

2:50
Slammy: Just traded for Buxton in my dynasty league. What would he have to do to make me keep him at $13 next year?

2:51
Paul Sporer: Double his OPS+ for the rest of the season (so just a 114)

2:51
whitey: You think the Tigers have a legitimate shot at winning it all this year?

2:52
Paul Sporer: If they get in, sure. Getting in is the tough part. Just rust for JZ today or still hurt? If it’s the latter, there’s trouble. One of Anibal Sanchez, Shane Greene, or Daniel Norris is going to have to step up and be a big piece of the rotation. Anibal has the best shot of course bc he’s actually IN the rotation right now

2:54
Toki: Got offered Tillman, Manaea, and Sano for Dahl and Margot in a 10 person OPS, H2H, dynasty league. Which side do you like?

2:55
Paul Sporer: I can take what you were offered if you’re pushing for this year, otherwise just hold. I think Dahl is gonna dominate in Coors

2:55
Snowflake: So this is probably crazy to even consider but… $26 Harper for 1 year or $11 Murphy for 2?

2:55
Paul Sporer: Still Harper

2:56
Sonny: Keep 3 from: Marte, Darvish, Blackmon, Grienke, Archer in year one of a 4 year keep

2:56
Paul Sporer: Marte, Blackmon, Darvish

2:56
JT: Dynasty league, would you trade Lindor for Benintendi (have Bogaerts starting at SS)?

2:56
Paul Sporer: No

2:56
Toki: I’m thinking of offering Clint, Frazier JP Crawford and Felix Hernandez for Wil Meyers in a 10 person, OPS, H2H, dynasty league. Is that sufficient for Meyers or is it light?

2:56
Paul Sporer: That’s a pretty good return. Maybe do that over the other deal you showed

2:57
John: 12 tm 6 player keeper. Drop Contreras for grandad?

2:57
Paul Sporer: Update: there’s Sevvy to rotation: https://twitter.com/mlbdepthcharts/status/761289967964266497

2:58
Paul Sporer: Flip a coin on the catcher situation, it’s really personal preference for me. I’d try to move Contreras given how bad C has been this year

2:58
I’m not your buddy, Guyer: Thoughts on Zunino in Seattle? He seems to be putting it together at the plate. Huge upgrade over Ianetta?

2:59
Paul Sporer: OK, didn’t realize he had 5 bombs when I clowned him earlier, so that’s definitely more encouraging. I will take him over Iannetta, but he still needs to do more for me

3:00
Paul Sporer: Sasha Fierce, I still prefer your Profar deal

3:00
Hawkeye: Zunino looks a lot better this year, upped walk rate and still got the power. Believing or be leaving?

3:00
Paul Sporer: Just clearing this question out

3:01
Paul Sporer: OK we’re officially done on Zunino questions. He’s raised his stock w/me, but I can’t just erase 1055 PA of shit because of 41 good ones

3:03
rustydude: But isn’t the Bregman-Benintendi question close enough where the answer is whoever the fantasy owner prefers? I rated them close enough to even that I went with Benintendi.

3:03
Paul Sporer: Sure

3:04
Lemon: The Rays acquire Matt Duffy. I currently have Ryon Healy filling the position. Do I run out to get Duffy?

3:04
Paul Sporer: Ya I prefer Duffy

3:04
Gootch: Bundy thoughts? Buck seems to think no IP limit. What do the underlying numbers portend ROS?

3:04
Paul Sporer: He’s looked fantastic. Like the hyped prospect we loved a couple years ago. Has come a long way since an uninspired AFL look

3:05
Drewser: Carlos Rodon still a potential top-of-the-rotation guy, or has that ship sailed? Who’s the odd man out between him, Paxton, and Ray ROS?

3:06
Paul Sporer: Ship definitely hasn’t sailed. We’re still very early in the 23-year old’s career and he’s been about average (96 OPS+) w/a K-per-IP. Still huge potential for me

3:06
Andrew: Keep forever league- Someone is looking to trade for Harper and pay full value. Do you think it is a good idea to move him?

3:06
Paul Sporer: If that full value is improving your race to the title, otherwise no

3:06
Friend: Looking for a bat to hold things down while Cespedes is hurt. What’s your take on this Cesar Hernandez fella?

3:07
Paul Sporer: Empty batting average

3:07
Todd: Why was Andrew Miller pitching in the 6th? Code Allen really not gonna lose the 9th?

3:07
Paul Sporer: It’s 2 games and his first was in the 8th. Still holding Miller as a closer

3:07
Rimmo: Have you heard anything on how the Tigers plan to manage Fulmer and his innings?

3:09
Paul Sporer: i think the reins are going to be pretty loose. He threw 124.7 IP last year

3:09
Pete: What is your long-term outlook on Dahl for fantasy purposes? I think he can be a .270/25HR/15-20 SB OF’er with tons of runs and a decent RBI total IF he can stay healthy and walk some.

3:09
Paul Sporer: Ya Coors is the best!!!

3:09
Steve: Have closer issues w/ Robertson and W.Davis (12 team, pts league). Should I move J.Bautista for Chapman and Iwakuma? I have J.Upton on the bench.

3:10
Paul Sporer: Ya that’s a good deal

3:10
Gordo: Paul is there any hope for Robbie Ray’s batted ball profile?

3:10
Paul Sporer: Just too much hard contact. Needs to fix that before I really start to care, even with the big Ks

3:10
Jack Frost: You mentioned Musgrove being pushed out when McCullers returns, but it sure does sound like that might not happen in 2016.

3:10
Paul Sporer: Ya, that’s definitely possible. I’m in on Musgrove for sure.

3:11
Eric: Any concerns about Bumgarner after flopping against the Phillies?

3:11
Paul Sporer: He allowed 7 ER in July

3:11
Von Schloss: Dynasty league, have Ramos at C and just grabbed Sanchez & Zunino. At 3rd I only have Duffy on DL and Schimpf filling in. Should I look to trade Ramos for someone like Lamb?

3:11
Paul Sporer: If you can get Lamb, yeah

3:11
Goose: In a rebuild, trade $8 Belt for $2 Sano? OBP instead of BA.

3:11
Paul Sporer: Ya that works for sure

3:11
R2D2: Is Naquin destined for a platoon with Guyer? Appears that way today.

3:12
Paul Sporer: Ya they’ve been limiting him v. lefties all year

3:12
Phantom of the Chakras: Hi Paul. Really enjoyed the nickname episode. What’s your take on Raul “I’m not my father” Mondesi for the future? Think he earns $10 AL-Only next year? Thanks!

3:13
Paul Sporer: LOL, good one! in AL-only, he can run his way to that, yeah

3:13
Sergey: I want to trade with team which has Bellinger and Smith. Who is more value?

3:13
Paul Sporer: Smith?

3:14
Paul Sporer: You’re really just giving me Smith?

3:14
Paul Sporer: I dunno man, get Jones instead.

3:14
Paul Sporer: Or Johnson, I’ve really been liking Johnson’s season so far

3:14
Paul Sporer: Definitely trade Williams, though

3:14
Paul Sporer: Smith… get outta here with Smith.

3:14
Julie: Thanks paul!

3:14
Paul Sporer: You’re welcome!

3:14
sort of coherent : Would you start Maeda tonight?

3:15
Paul Sporer: Not if I can avoid it

3:15
Snowflake: I’m worried that Coors is over inflating Dahl’s outlook. But may it’s because I got burned a couple years ago deciding between Dickerson and Betts and took Dickerson cause COORS! Benintendi and Bregman look like better overall hitters than Dahl

3:15
Paul Sporer: Is Dahl leaving Coors?

3:16
Paul Sporer: Injuries did Dickerson in

3:16
Snowflake: Dickerson turned out to not be that great…

3:17
Paul Sporer: Except that he hit .299/.345/.534 w/Colorado

3:17
Paul Sporer: You should’ve picked Smith over both

3:18
Dr. Met: Mr. Matty Moore, 6bb 7k today. yikes

3:19
Paul Sporer: BB always a potential issue w/him

3:19
Paul Sporer: it’d be more yikes if it came w/6 H instead of 3

3:19
Deeds: Holding out hope for J.Upton ROS?

3:21
Paul Sporer: I mean, I’ve accepted that it’s going to be a huge J Up season, but what more do you want at this point? Been .796 OPS w/30-100-20 pace since June 1st

3:21
Von Schloss: Sonny Gray or Tai Walker?

3:21
Paul Sporer: Walker

3:21
Travis: How amazing is it that Verlander is a Cy Young candidate this season? I would have assumed he’d be out of baseball at this point rather than one of the better pitchers in the AL.

3:21
Paul Sporer: With due respect, it’s insane that you would’ve thought he’d be out of baseball. There was absolutely nothing to suggest that would happen

3:22
Paul Sporer: I just never understood this kind of overreaction to him. And you’re not alone. He was very clearly injured during his down period (core surgery in ’14, triceps in early ’15). He’s been a beast since getting healthy again

3:22
Phantom of the Chakras: What’s the deal with this Trevor Bauer dude? Keeping with nicknames, is he more Trevor “Golden” Bauer or Trevor “Bowser” Bauer?

3:23
Paul Sporer: You mean AL Central Michael Pineda, I’m all set with him. I’m done stepping on that rake.

3:23
A.J. Pollock: Do you expect me to return to being a top 20 or so OF (this year or next?)

3:23
Paul Sporer: Let’s say top 30 for now, but I’ll be buying in hopes of getting that top guy back

3:23
Oliver: Any update on a possible Show league? I call dibs on the pirates 🙂

3:24
Paul Sporer: Would likely be an offseason thing so I can give it real time

3:24
Big Fan: Just wanted to thank you for doing these chats. Really makes the day better to have them.

3:24
Paul Sporer: Thanks so much!!

3:24
Alex Breen: Will Quintana be that much better than Anthony DeSclafani in 2017 and 2018. There numbers are very similar.

3:24
Alex Two Times: Disco or Quintana for the next two years? Is the difference between the two significant?

3:24
Paul Sporer: I see where you got your nickname

3:24
Paul Sporer: You waited all of 6 minutes, too! Most repeaters at least wait 10+

3:24
Paul Sporer: I prefer Q, but they’ll be close

3:25
Dungeon Master: Dynasty…Donaldson+Addison or Correa+Jake Lamb?

3:25
Paul Sporer: side A

3:25
Harry Carey’s Ghost: Out of it in a keep-forever league. Thinking about trading Arenado to a contender for Bregman and Dahl. Is that enough of a return for me?

3:25
Paul Sporer: It feels good enough. I don’t have a lot of keeper forever/dynasty experience but that feels substantial

3:25
Ben: Has Aaron Sanchez done enough for us to consider him an ace?

3:25
Paul Sporer: No

3:26
Paul Sporer: Not only does he need to do it longer, but fantasy aces have to fan more than 7.6 per nine

3:26
Kerry: Anything to worry about with Jake Barrett’s terrible, no-good, very bad day (yesterday)?

3:26
Paul Sporer: I think he gets more of a leash than one disaster

3:26
Lemon: Follow up question. How much do you drop on Duffy in an AL-only?

3:26
Paul Sporer: 35% of my remaining. Upwards of 50%

3:27
Phew: I know it meant your Tigers lost, so for that I am sorry. But man, it feels good to see David Robertson close out a game with relative ease.

3:27
Paul Sporer: Well he did give a knock instantly and needed to make a sharp play for that double play

3:27
Mike: Dynasty league – trade Gallo for Josh Bell & Hunter Renfroe?

3:27
Paul Sporer: Sure, 2 lottery tickets instead of one

3:27
Tim: You’re clearly bearish on Benintendi compared to many others. Any particular reason why?

3:27
Paul Sporer: Realism?

3:28
Paul Sporer: I mean, I understand he’s a very good prospect and I’m psyched long-term, but he’s coming from Double-A and I’m just not sure he’ll star instantly. Projecting that for rookies is a losing business

3:28
Paul Sporer: Look at how quickly people have turned on Bregman

3:28
Tony: Thanks for the responses

3:28
Paul Sporer: Of course!

3:29
Lemon: Zimmerman having MRI. Lat issue.

3:29
Paul Sporer: Poop,

3:29
bakkemon: for what it’s worth, giants broadcasters were bitching about a tight strike zone all day re: moore. also, he could’ve been missing.

3:29
Paul Sporer: Ah, good to know. Was watching the Tigers

3:29
Paul Sporer: brb, gotta take Charlotte out

3:34
JD15: How do you proceed with trades for D Salazar? Buy low or stay away bc of injury

3:35
Paul Sporer: Really depends where you are in the standings. If it’s more of a Hail Mary situation, go for it .

3:36
JD15: How should I go about trading with the team above me in my division (top 6 make playoffs, 3 division winners get auto bids)? Avoid? Charge a premium?

3:36
Paul Sporer: If it improves your team, do it

3:36
Bork Taco: DeSclafani or Paxto to replace McCullers? Also love the new FG swag but can I recommend a coffee cup? Thats something I could use everyday.

3:37
Paul Sporer: I’ll pass along the idea! I’d go for Paxton, but I really like shooting for that huge upside and that velo makes me drool

3:37
G Money: Does Bregman need a demotion for a couple of weeks to get right? Bo Sox didn’t it for Mookie in ’14 and he’s been a top guy ever since he came back.

3:38
Paul Sporer: I don’t necessarily see the link w/Betts. They’d know best what’s up with him and if it’s getting to him mentally or not. For now, I’d think they should ride it out for another 35-40 PA

3:38
Harry Carey’s Ghost: Is this just a bad year for Justin Upton, or do you think this is a new normal for him going forward? I had him as a keeper coming into this season and I’m already talking myself into not making that mistake again for next year.

3:39
Paul Sporer: Right now, it boils down to 2 bad months

3:39
Travis: Injuries, declining velocity, entering mid 30s, huge workload… that’s a lot of downward pointing arrows. Didn’t think he’d be out of baseball, but I thought it was more likely he was the next Halladay than a bounceback to the top of the AL.

3:40
Paul Sporer: 3 of those things can also just be called “time”. Injuries were the only real concern, but I wasn’t ready to write him off until seeing him healthy again

3:40
Paul Sporer: And Jeff Zimmerman has shown that workload isn’t a carrying factor in decline

3:40
Dr. Met: on FG, where’s the “comparable” players tool if there is one?

3:40
Paul Sporer: There isn’t to my knowledge

3:41
Bork Taco: I traded for Ortiz to bolster my playoff run. Big mistake; seen a lot of 0’fers lately?

3:42
Paul Sporer: Has just three 0-fers in his last 10, 6 in his last 24

3:42
Von Schloss: You ok with Dee Gordon & Giolito for Robbie Cano in a dynasty?

3:42
Paul Sporer: Yeah, both sides are solid

3:42
Penguin: Thoughts on Lester? Peripherals look a bit shaky

3:44
Paul Sporer: 21 BB and 10 HR in last 8; 17 and 7 in first 13… I’m w/you on the concern

3:44
Paul Sporer: Not sure if it’s actionable, but I do have some worry w/it

3:44
Phew: A base hit and stellar defensive play is relative ease for Robertson these days!

3:44
Paul Sporer: LOL, true

3:44
JD15: Is Kershaw done for the year?

3:44
Paul Sporer: Latest news was 60-day DL, earliest return can be 8/27

3:45
Von Schloss: Ever play MLB Power Pros?

3:45
Paul Sporer: No, what’s that?

3:45
Patrick: Activated JD Martinez last night and was pissed when he wasn;t starting. But boy was I happy after the game. That was a cool moment.

3:45
Paul Sporer: I must’ve watched the video 15 more times this morning, no joke

3:45
Buck: Drop Sano for BenineneneneBatman? And if he gets demoted, how long until you think he’s back in the bigs?

3:47
Paul Sporer: I tried to tell y’all that present-day Sano was peak Cust.

3:47
Paul Sporer: I’m OK taking a shot on Be Nintendo

3:47
John C.: Would you drop Ramos for Bedrosian? I know AJ is 31/33 in saves but he gives me agita almost every appearance. His BB rate and xFIP are gross.

3:48
Paul Sporer: man

3:48
Paul Sporer: that’s tough

3:48
Paul Sporer: We covered Ramos’ struggles yesterday on the pod and definitely put him on notice

3:50
Paul Sporer: I said a lot w/out answering… I’m torn.

3:50
Paul Sporer: With Rodney looming, go ahead. If they only had Barraclough, then I’d have said no

3:51
Of all the Duffys in all the tow: Hi Paul. Thanks for another chattapalooza. Curious how you feel rolling the dice on Duffy vs. Toronto this weekend.

3:51
Paul Sporer: I’m not benching Duffy at all these days

3:51
Eric: Is Edwin Diaz a top 10 closer next year?

3:51
Paul Sporer: I can certainly see it

3:51
Eric: In Eno’s chat he mentioned Trea could be Dee but with more pop. Would you agree?

3:51
Paul Sporer: WTF is Eno?

3:51
Paul Sporer: 🙂

3:52
Paul Sporer: I don’t think he’ll steal as much as Dee so fewer SBs and more HRs, yeah

3:52
Snowflake: Harper has 19 multi-hit games this year. J Up has 21, including a 4 hit game which Harper has none of

3:52
Paul Sporer: That’s interesting

3:52
Paul Sporer: At this point, I have to wonder if Harper is playing through nagging injuries

3:52
JT: Best things about a Sporer chat: 1) they are long; 2) you answer the question that is asked; and 3) they are snark-free. R

3:53
Paul Sporer: I’m not sure I really did well with #3 today

3:53
Eric: Still hold Salazar is keeper leagues?

3:53
Paul Sporer: Yeah, sit tight for now

3:53
Eric: Any chance White Sox move Robertson in August?

3:53
Paul Sporer: They’ll try, I bet

3:53
Jonny: Thanks for the chat, Paul. Thoughts on middling SPs Robbie Ray, Bud Norris and McCarthy? Are any/all of them above just being a streamer?

3:53
Paul Sporer: I could see holding McCarthy. Don’t care much for Ray or B-No

3:53
Minty: Any idea as to why Moncada doesn’t have any August stats yet?

3:54
Paul Sporer: No, that’s weird. None on B-Ref either

3:54
Tim: Rank 1Bs ROS: Napoli, Belt, Santana, Moss

3:55
Paul Sporer: If you only need pop, you have the order. If you’re just looking for best production, shift Belt to 1

3:55
Cloudy33: What kind of bat should I be aiming for if I’m dealing Happ? Lamb is too high, maybe Ozuna?

3:58
Paul Sporer: Was gonna say Ozuna might be too high as well, but didn’t realize Happ is 16th on ESPN Player Rater and still top 30 even if you remove Ws. Ask for O and see what’s up

4:08
Dr. Met: Re: Ramos, rodney’s been just as shaky, his regression has been expectedly violent. Barraclaugh too wild as well isn’t he?

4:09
Paul Sporer: Fair point, but will it stop Mattingly from switching it up if Ramos keeps struggling? And ya Bear Claw is too wild to leapfrog Rodney

4:09
Von Schloss: Power Pros was an old Wii and PS2 port of a Japanese baseball title. Only made it in 07 & 08. The characters were very cartoony but the game was a lot of fun and kept a lot of stats. I still have an old Wii just to play it.

4:09
Paul Sporer: Ah, I’m unfamiliar w/it, but it sounds fun

4:09
Eric: Keep 3: Salazar (16th round), CMart (17th), Fulmer (19th), Urias (19th), DeSclafani (21st)? Thanks

4:10
Paul Sporer: I’d rather not keep 3 SPs, even later rounds. But unless we get worse news on him, Salazar is one. Along w/Fulmer & Urias

4:15
Paul Sporer: OK y’all, I gotta get goin

4:15
Paul Sporer: A couple more quick hitters

4:15
Hoopster: Is Cody Reed going to turn it around this year or should I move to Igleasis or Kelly? Can gain points in wins, K’s, ERA and Whip.

4:19
Paul Sporer: See Reed as more of a ’17 and beyond guy.

4:19
Paul Sporer: Only Ws Raisel will get are vultures, but I like him for the other 3 cats

4:19
Kerry: “Edwin Diaz”? ELECTRIC EDDIE!

4:19
Paul Sporer: I like it!

4:19
Guest: Looking to cut an underperforming OF – drop Sano or D. Peralta?

4:19
Paul Sporer: Yeah, go for that!

4:19
Phantom of the Chakras: Per J. Stark: ‘Sergio Romo was the WP for the Giants today – despite facing zero hitters. (Got one out on a CS.) First to do that since Alan Embree – 7 years ago!’

4:19
Paul Sporer: Love Stark’s stuff like that

4:20
Dr. Met: Left this chat window open by accident?

4:20
Paul Sporer: Sorry bout that lull earlier. Try to multitask and sometimes get distracted

4:21
JD15: How heavily do I rate present value over future value in a 5 year keeper league. I’m currently in a playoff spot and I have giolito on my bench. Trade him for high level non keeper, mid level with some keeper (some PV and FV) or hold?

4:21
Paul Sporer: I’m always about the now, so I’d be open to moving him for some game-changers that help me lock in that title (as much as you can lock it in w/2 months left)

4:21
JD15: 5 year keeper league: 4 of my JBJ for non keep Scherzer and 1 keep Salazar?

4:22
Paul Sporer: I’d rather do the Giolito thing

4:22
Rags: What’s Harper worth in an NL only OBP league next year? Going for first next year with him at 33 and trying to decide if I should move him to fill some other holes.

4:22
Paul Sporer: He’d still top 33 at next year’s auction even if he was status quo or a little better these last 2 months

4:22
JD15: For 12 keepers on a 23 man roster what is your optimal Pitcher:Hitter keep ration?

4:23
Paul Sporer: 9/3

4:23
Paul Sporer: But don’t force it and keep weaker hitters just to make the mark. Sometimes you’ve got studly SPs at $1-5 that you just can’t turn away

4:23
Paul Sporer: OK y’all, that’ll do it for today!

4:24
Paul Sporer: Thanks for hanging out. Don’t forget to pick up Smith, cut Johnson, and trade Rodriguez

Blue Jays are going with a 6-man rotation to keep Sanchez in it. Seems like a good strategy; will give all their starters a slight boost in productivity, keep their ace in the rotation, and worst-case scenario Liriano blows up as a SP and goes to the bullpen where his walks won’t hurt as much.
