Paul Sporer: Sometimes those shin killers are temporary (a day or so) but they hurt so much immediately that they just collapse in pain and look like career-enders. Let’s hope that what this is

Tony: I’m in an 11-team AL-only and trying to catch up in the W category. I have a great starting five and am simply looking for a few arms I can add that won’t hurt my peripherals too much as I chase more wins. Does Matt Boyd qualify as such a player?

Paul Sporer: Ehhhhh, it’s probably among the best available in an AL only so go for it

Phantom of the Chakras: Hi Paul. Since you watch regularly, anything special about Francisco “F-Rod/Fraud” Rodriguez’s recent collapse? Or is it just your usual being crappy kind of thing? Thanks!

Paul Sporer: Well he has the automatic -10% just for being a Tigers RP. That just happens it seems (shoot me!). Beyond that, he just keeps getting buried in counts and he’s toast in those cases

AL Pitching Coach: Are there any top rookie arms left to debut in the American League this year? More precisely, as someone looking for help down the stretch in a completely barren market (Gallardo is pretty much the best SP available on the wire), should I be running to bid on anyone during my next free agency period?

Paul Sporer: I can’t really think of anyone. Chat? You got an AL names that could come up from the minors?

Paul Sporer: You mean the lowered swing-and-miss? It’s good, but not game-changing. He’s still fanning a quarter of the time. I like Joc and at 24, I still think there’s more room for growth, but I haven’t seen a ton this year

Jon: When you say “bad demotion” re: Walker, do you mean the Mariners shouldn’t have or it’s a bad sign for Walker?

Paul Sporer: It was for a bad reason. Like, they were pissed at him

Tim: You seem to love David Dahl. Is it something he does specifically (mash) or is it just stud prospect in Coors? What kind of impact do you think he can have rest of season? He’s en fuego right now.

Paul Sporer: The latter. Just a high quality prospect in Coors!! I think he can stay very impactful rest of way. Even the rookie wall can be somewhat mitigated by Coors and hell, the season might run out before he really even hits it

Daniel: With an OF built with CarGo, Holliday, Odubel, Ozuna, Kepler and Rajai: does Werth have a spot over any of them. It’s a long term keeper league, so I can’t ditch Kepler. Not that I want to.

Paul Sporer: I think you’re fine as is. Rajai been sneaky EXCELLENT this year

JD15: Do you think JBJ is a top 20 OF next year?

Paul Sporer: Not sure I get him that high, but I haven’t done a full assessment

Paul Sporer: Ya if you can’t get what you want, it’s hard to sell. But you can’t be weary about his future and then expect someone to pay top dollar. You’re not the only one who thinks he’ll come down

CW: Should I be targeting Abreu in a keeper 10 tm league? what price if so?

Paul Sporer: Ehhhh, if you want. Price should be a good bit lower than draft day cost

JD15: What are your fantasy thoughts on Hendricks? I think more useful in real life than fantasy due to lower K numbers, but in terms of ROS and next year is he a solid 3 or better?

Cookie: I have nine (!) closers in 10-team redraft, but that means my 1B/3B slot is currently empty. I’m making a run for the top spot in saves, but does it even make sense to leave a positional slot vacant for an extended period of time?

JD15: What is a better way to get more managers staying active until the end of the season: fewer managers (my league has 18), more playoff spots (currently 6) or more payout spots (top 2 and the 3 division winners right now get money)

Paul Sporer: More playoff spots would help. Penalties for finishing last (as long as you have a tight group, otherwise ppl will just quit). Maybe tie some draft or auction perk for finishing just out of the playoffs. In one of my leagues, 5th place (we have 4 money spots) gets top minor lg pick

Lars: What level of positional player could I command in return for Kenley Jansen in a saves-starved 10-teamer?

Paul Sporer: Big arm with some mid-rotation upside, but probably needs a couple years to get there. Barreto is still just 20, but I’ll still go him

Paul Sporer: Who knows in such a small sample, but it’s possible enough to make the move

Phanatic: As a follow up then, all us equal, I’m down to Corey Seager/Odor/Myers/Polanco as my last keeper in a 12tm H2H. Leaning Seager but I like the SB ability from the others…

Paul Sporer: Def Seager for me

Bill: Forgive the long question because of league scoring details:

Bill: I have Urias ($5), Reyes ($1), Snell, ($3), and Bundy ($1) in a 16 team roto, 5×5 (OBP replaces BA), 5 keepers, keep 3 years, with salaries escalating $10/year ($500 cap). 5 keepers, but keeper slots are tradeable, so teams that went all in to contend, or otherwise have few good keepers can trade keeper slots during the year, or after, and I can accumulate up to 8 (they re-set after each auction), though I may or may not do that because of cost. There is also one minor league slot you can keep players in indefinitely, as long as they are in the minors, and it doesn’t use of one of your keeper slots. I currently have Moncada there. I am likely to keep Odor (for his second keeper year at $25-500 cap), and Sano (21, second year), and at this point Kepler (he’ll be $11). I also have Hernan Perez who looks like he could be worth keeping.Of the group of young pitchers, who do you see as good keepers, given the 3 year cap, innings caps, etc

Paul Sporer: I know those SPs are at great prices, but they’re all SUPER risky still. I’d rank em Urias, Bundy, Snell, Reyes right now

Paul Sporer: He’s 4th for me. I’ve maintained that I’m not writing him off entirely bc it hasn’t been a huge sample, but there also hasn’t been anything particularly encouraging about his MLB work so I’m not bending over backwards to keep him around

Paul Sporer: Lindor. LOOOVE Altuve, but Lindor is a stud and not $21 worse
