Chris: Should I pull the trigger on a trade of my Will Harris and Jaime Garcia for D.J. LeMahieu? It is a 12 team H2H points dynasty. Currently rolling Lawrie and Merrifield out there at 2B and have Ramos, Casilla, Dyson and the potential closer Raisel Iglesias on my roster.

Paul Sporer: that feels expensive for DJLM, especially since he’s not SO much better than what you have

All Betts Off: Hey Paul. Very deep redraft. Very impt to me. Was offered Trout for Arenado (obv. most impt part of a larger trade). Who’s more valuable ROS and why?

Paul Sporer: Not sure there’s enough discernible difference not to just pick your preference between them

Paul Sporer: Arenado has every bit the potential to be the top hitter for 2017 drafts as Trout does. If you prefer the more across-the-board feel with SBs, go Trout. If you just want that power and run production to the hilt, go Arenado

Jaxson: Are you buying into the seasons of Ozuna, Myers, and Trumbo, or will they all face the regression bug soon?

Paul Sporer: yes, yes, and no

Paul Sporer: They’ll likely all regress SOME bc they’re out of their minds, but i buy the others over Trumbo. Just haven’t seen anything different in Trumbo’s to believe it’s more than a nice run. Power has never been in question for Trumbo, but I think he’ll have at least one more .239 month like his May

Paul Sporer: He already is. Plan is Ross w/Lester, Montero w/Arrieta, and Contreras for rest. I can see a big cold streak for Contreras after the league gets that book going

Gorky: Huston Street looks awful. Think he keeps the gig?

Paul Sporer: Until he’s traded to setup somewhere

Friend: I need an arm in 14-team league and the wire is thin. Is Tom Koehler worth a claim? 3.00 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 8.5 K/9 over the last month.

Paul Sporer: Even a fifth-starter has to put up a lot of good starts to have a high-4.00s, low-5.00s for a season so this is probably just his best work. He also has 4.8 BB/9 in that same month. Pass

DB: Paul! This awful 3 start run by Nola has me panicking a bit. I know it was unreasonable to expect him to keep up his gaudy pace from the first two months of the season but what can we expect ROS and does he need to be on my bench in a 16 team league until he posts another good start?

Paul Sporer: Unless there is something injury-wise, it’s probably just a bad run. He was SO good earlier. I think we’re freaking out more bc it’s 3 in a row. Sit tight for now. I’m not sure you can bench him in 16

Linus: Can Kyle Hendricks keep this up, even without an arsenal of wipeout stuff?

Paul Sporer: Ya he’s been beasting from jump street in MLB. I wouldn’t peg him as sub-3.00 full season, but 3.20ish with great WHIP and solid component numbers. I’m buying in more and more on him.

Ben: I’ve been holding Dee Gordon for a while in my H2H after someone else dropped him. I already have Odor at 2B so would be looking to trade Gordon once he’s back in a month. What type of bat/arm should Gordon return in a 10-team H2H league?

Paul Sporer: Whatever you can get that will help your team. These questions are really tough to answer with any specificity because player valuations vary so much from owner to owner and league to league. Just see if you can improve your team

JUp: Eno said I’m about to have my “Big Month”. What say you?

Paul Sporer: I’ve been behind you all season and you remember what Eno says? jeez.

Paul Sporer: Plus you’ve already had a big month (.850ish in L30 days)

Paul Sporer: The strikeouts were brutal, but everything else was on track for J Up. He was smacking the ball when he did make contact, running a little, etc… It’s coming together. Top-25 OF rest of season with a chance at top-15

Paul: What are your thoughts on Aledmys Diaz RoS? Since he’s cooled down is he droppable in a 12 team H2H or should I look to trade him as he’s SS elibigible in Yahoo?

Paul Sporer: You should always look to trade someone before dropping them if you think you can get something useful. I thought he was holding up more but when we checked in on him on the pod, he’s been pretty bland since April. So if nothing turns up on the trade market, I’m ok cutting

Argo: Do you see Michael Saunders as a true breakout player? His BABIP is in the .370s. I’m afraid to drop him but could use a little more speed, which he seems to no longer provide.

Paul Sporer: Jason & I loved him last year and then he ran over a sprinkler or some shit. The talent is there. The health is not. A .375 is high for sure, but you gotta look into what’s with it: 23% line drives and 38% hard contact (both career highs)

For a friend: Who closes in Cincinnati ROS?

Paul Sporer: Norm Charlton

Josh: I’ve got Sano and Reddick returning from the DL soon and have to drop 2 of the following in my 12 team redraft: Reddick, L Martin, Heyward, Valencia, Saunders. Which two get the heave ho?

Paul Sporer: Heyward for one and the other is really tough. I’ve long been a Valencia skeptic, but he’s RAKING. I honestly wouldn’t outright cut any of the others. Gotta hit the trade market first and see if you can 2-for-1. I know 2-for-1 is the advice a lot in these situations, but it’s easier in June when injuries have started to take hold

Josh: Jose Ramirez or Brad Miller as a flex bench bat?

Paul Sporer: Ramirez

Nolan: I own Thor. Should I seriously look for return on an elbow that is about to blow?

Paul Sporer: You’d be selling low right now. Worst time to sell. Just sit tight. If it pops, it pops

Paul: Tough question I know, but who’s a good SP target for Ryan Braun in a 12 team H2H league?

Paul Sporer: Not tough, impossible. Goes back to what I said earlier about the differences in trade markets from league to league. Everyone values players differently. You have to figure out what YOU deem a fair return.

Paul Sporer: I’m more than willing to help with trade questions, but both sides of the trade have to be in the question. I’m not going to guess what you can get for players. That’s an impossible task. I just want to save y’all time on asking those ones

Eno! Helloooooo: How do you feel about dealing Lucroy for a solid SP and rolling with a guy like Grandal or d’Arnaud?

Paul Sporer: If you need the pitching, it’s OK since the shittiness of C means not many teams are really getting big production there. Conversely, you do have a nice advantage on the field w/LuCroy so he might be worth just holding

Paul Sporer: I didn’t mean to waffle there. I’m 100% cool trading him if pitching is your need. But I wouldn’t trade him just to trade him

Jaxson: I’m stuck picking between Archer and McCullers each week. Any advice since it seems that it doesn’t matter the matchup, both seem capable of blowing up against any team?

Paul Sporer: Yeah they’re close on the upside-to-blowup potential scale. I’d just play the matchup w/em. Tiebreakers go to Archer for me because he has the better track record

Shawn: Weekly check-in on J-Hey and HanRam. Time to move on in shallow re-drafts and just ride guys on hot streaks?

Paul Sporer: I’m OK moving on from either in shallow leagues, but I’m trying to hang onto Hanley if possible whereas I’m fine cutting Heyward in just about any sitch

Paul Sporer: Interesting group. Not a lot of split between em. Conley, Bauer, Guerra, Snell (just think TB will put limits on him that hold him back), and Chen (loved him coming into the season, but he’s been brutal… just waaaay too many HRs)

Paul: I traded K Seager and Odorizzi for Blackmon and Jake Lamb in a 12 team H2H league…did I do ok or was I drinking too much of Eno’s Jake Lamb Kool-Aid?

Paul Sporer: You did well. That’s a solid trade on both sides

Desperate Dan: I swear, I usually don’t do this…In a 14 Team, keep 10 league where I’m “going for it,” am I being silly not jumping on a Hamels-Moncada for Glasnow-AJ Reed offer? I could use Hamels (literally any half-decent SP’s are rostered). I’m leery Glasnow is gonna be Thor in 2 years…

Paul Sporer: Not silly, but I’d do the deal. I don’t share your rosy outlook of Glasnow. His height can be a negative in that it makes repeating difficult which breeds control issues. Plus Moncada is arguably baseball’s top prospect. Love this deal for you, tbh

Wayne: Is Fielder done? Do you expect TEX to call up Gallo to take his place (or Moreland’s place)?

Paul Sporer: I doubt he just rots on the bench, so he’d have to hit the DL for something like that to happen. He’s been doing alright of late… though it’s sad when we’re hyped on a .744 OPS over 16 games

Paul Sporer: OUCH! That is DL hell for sure. I think you gotta chop VV and Brantley. I hear you on the ego piece re: Brantley, but his outlook seems to get worse and worse. Is trading an option at all? To someone who might wanna spec and has a free DL spot? You’ll be selling low, but better than cutting

Dan: Short closers so speculating on Quality relievers. Will Smith, or one of the Feliz Boys (Neftali or Michael)?

Paul Sporer: not sure Michael Feliz can do enough to get it as Giles would prob get a look if Harris faltered. Neftali could get in if Melancon is traded (which would presume Pittsburgh re-tooling for ’17). So I’ll say Smith is best bet of those

Pipes : Is Lucas Giolito a classically overhyped, all arm, no results guy or should I hold him in a keep 6 forever league? Is he worth holding for 2017 because I know he’s not doing anything in 16.

Paul Sporer: Ouch, no! No results? He has a 2.74 ERA and almost 10 Ks per nine in 325 MiLB IP. He’s 21. How about some patience? 🙂

Paul Sporer: No, you’re not. BTW, this will close the book on J Up related Qs. I’m comfortable saying he’s pretty much back.

Paul Sporer: Not sure, tbh. I think Reed will def a get look and Bregman certainly could.

Eric: Best overall player right now? Is it still Trout? Or has he been supplanted by Kershaw or Altuve?

Paul Sporer: If it’s just MLB player, it’s Kershaw. Top position player can be Trout, Arenado, Machado, Altuve, Harper, Donaldson. Not sure there’s a ton of room between those guys

Paul Sporer: If he’s healthy, he’s gonna be good. I worried that the microfracture would impact him this year. It may have early on, but he’s raking of late.

The Cincinnati Kid: My league is switching to: IP, QS, ERA, WHIP, K, & Net Saves+Holds. Is punting the NetS+H a sound strategy and just loading up on SPs like crazy?

Paul Sporer: I mean, it gives you the 3 categories, but you’re still at risk for ERA/WHIP. An RP-focused plan would go the other way where ERA/WHIP/NSH are you strengths. I’d really just go for balance, tbh

Paul Sporer: but maybe that’s why I don’t win a lot of H2H lgs

Mike: Is it time to give up on Liriano in 8 team NL only leagues and/or deep 12 team leagues? I keep thinking he is going to rein in the walks, but they keep spiraling out of control.

Paul Sporer: Completely fine moving on from him. He looks turrrrible

Paul Sporer: Only saw a bit as I went to lunch w/my sis & niece before this chat so I’ll know more later when I watch replay. He’s only a streaming option right now even if he looked great today, though

Paul Sporer: I feel like he’d be dealt to become closer somewhere, though. He’s been REALLY good in that role for several years. But if you’re concerned, then deal him.

Paul Sporer: Maybe you shouldn’t have drafted a 21-year old who had all of 47 IP at Double-A coming into the year if you NEEDED him to perform then? Seems like more of an expectations problem than anything Giolito is doing.

Alex: Not really a fantasy question but why do teams insist on playing someone just because they payed them a lot like a Ken Giles in April or a Prince Fielder? Seems like a sunk cost to me, do they not get that?

Paul Sporer: Eh, I don’t really see it that way. First off, it’s not just bc they paid for ’em. Giles’ skills are still pretty strong. He’s had some AWFUL outings to be sure, but he’s hardly a sunk cost. Plus, you need more than a month or two to just get rid of these guys. This isn’t fantasy baseball. Let’s just be honest, the teams know a fuckload more than we do about these players, Doesn’t mean all their choices are 100% right, but if we were in charge, we’d have a much bigger fail rate that actual GMs

Paul Sporer: It’s not your bad, but just being the #1 prospect doesn’t guarantee you anything in the immediate term. And don’t get too hung up on MiLB stats. The bigger thing is that he’s blocked off right now as their rotation has been v good
