Paul Sporer Baseball Chat – June 16th, 2017

Chat transcript is below!

2:08

Paul Sporer: Happy Friday!!!

2:08

Paul Sporer: Let’s talk baseball!!

2:08

Luck Dragons: Should I sell Odor at a big loss?

2:08

Paul Sporer: No, I’d hold on

2:08

Big Tuna: What are your thoughts on Wacha’s latest start?

2:09

Paul Sporer: Only saw the box, but I rarely make strong moves off one start unless someone is hurt

2:09

Rasta: With fantasy rotations decimated, how viable of a strategy is it to only start 3 SP in a 12 tm 5×5 H2H and loading up on closers and elite relief arms?

2:09

Paul Sporer: Just might be tough to stay competitive in Ks and Ws

2:09

Drenjamin: Brandon Belt and David Robertson for Jeff Samardzija. Fair trade or clear winner?

2:10

Paul Sporer: The in-season deepening of 1B curbs Belts value so that’s pretty fair

2:10

Hold the Odor: The Angels are clearly better without Mike Trout and should trade him immediately.

2:10

Paul Sporer: Obvvvvv lol

2:10

Big Tuna: Would you trade Berrios for Happ in an OPS league?

2:10

Paul Sporer: I would not

2:10

BarYOlo Cologne: Alex Wood for Conforto?

2:10

Paul Sporer: Nice deal of breakout for breakout

2:10

BarYOlo Cologne: What do you make of Homer Bailey coming back shortly?

2:10

Paul Sporer: I’ve been a huge Homer honk before but I gotta see something first

2:11

Drenjamin: How much will Eric Thames benefit when Braun comes back to the Brew Crew lineup?

2:11

Paul Sporer: It can’t hurt

2:11

Dirk Diggler: Are you buying Starlin Castro as a legitimate fantasy 2B even in an 8 team league?

2:11

Paul Sporer: I am, yes. That lineup is nice and he’s shown big skills before.

2:11

Paul Sporer: Some may be shocked to learn that Starlin is still only 27

2:11

Heathcliff Slocumb: Made moves to acquire underachieving/injured arms in my 12 tm dynasty using depth pieces (Porcello, Cole, Smyly) since no one is letting go of their studs at any cost.  Foolhardy strategy or worth it if even 1 pans out?

2:12

Paul Sporer: I think it’s definitely a viable strategy since aces and reliable #2s/#3s are SO expensive

2:12

Dr. J: What’s up with Machado? Hidden health issues? Any outperform ROS?

2:12

Paul Sporer: Singles aren’t falling, I’m not too concerned

2:12

Big Tuna: I’m very high on Godley but was debating trading him for Andrelton since I need MIF help. Will I regret that?

2:12

Paul Sporer: I’d be surprised if you regretted it. I like Godley, too, but that’s a good deal

2:13

BarYOlo Cologne: Start Shark tonight in Colo? He got beat up there earlier in the year and no Posey tonight,  not sure how much that may matter calling the game…

2:13

Paul Sporer: I like Shark, but I’d lay off. I know he’s had previous success there before this year’s shellacking, but I’m passing

2:13

Paul Sporer: SPs are volatile enough in PNC or Minute Maid, let alone putting them in Coors

2:13

Daniel: Drop Hill in ten teamer or hold?

2:15

Paul Sporer: Ya I’m actually OK with it. Maybe dangle him on the cheap first and say “not asking full price, who’s interested” and see if the offers are better than waiver options

2:15

Drenjamin: Bruce and Eduardo Nunez for C. Martinez?

2:15

Paul Sporer: Dig it for CMart, fair either way

2:15

Windy: Bellinger or Benintendi ROS??

2:15

Paul Sporer: Ooohhhh, that’s tough. It’s really needs-based, IMO. Belly for power, Beni for AVG.

2:16

Big Tuna: Are you out on Joc for this season?

2:16

Paul Sporer: My prediction of speed ever coming isn’t happening and so he’s looking like another Colby Rasmus

2:16

Closer Question: Hey Paul, thanks for chatting…I’m in a 10 teamer with 2 RP slots. I currently have Oh and Rivero. Considering dropping Oh for AJ Ramos or Rosenthal and hoping they make the change soon. Thoughts?

2:16

Paul Sporer: No prob thanks for coming out! I’m cool getting Rosy now for Oh

2:16

toki: Syndergaard a buy low candidate now?

2:17

Paul Sporer: No thanks. Not even throwing for another month.

2:17

Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Yonder Alonso hit like 45 home runs for me in my MLB 2k11 franchise, so yeah, I guess you could say I saw this coming.

2:17

Paul Sporer: Hahaha, why didn’t tip me off earlier?!

2:17

Big Tuna: Would a DL stint maybe help Zobrist rest up and recoup some value or is he droppable in 12 team leagues?

2:18

Paul Sporer: Agree that a DL stint would probably help, but I’d also be fine moving off him in 12 tm

2:18

Johnny Cueto: Trade me and Hanley for Greinke in a Roto OBP?

2:19

Paul Sporer: Would prefer the duo

2:19

Big Tuna: You worried about Fulmer’s shoulder? They seem to be downplaying it, but…shoulder…

2:19

Paul Sporer: A little. Always somewhat concerned about a shoulder for a young arm

2:19

Smart Play: H2H QS/OBP. DeGrom and R. Hill for Archer?

2:20

Paul Sporer: Gimme Archer

2:20

Jay: What are you doing with starters like Estrada & Leake who have struggled/come back to earth recently? Holding or bailing? Next week are you starting Samardzija (@ ATL) vs. either of them (both have 2 starts)

2:20

Paul Sporer: Shark, Estrada, Leake is how I’d rank em

2:20

Paul Sporer: Not at all surprised Leake came to earth. I’m not abandoning Estrada rn

2:21

BK: My Scherzer for his Jansen in an NL only 11 team roto where I’m crushing ERA and WHIP. Fair deal or try to get some more?

2:21

Paul Sporer: I know Kenley is amazingggg but Max has to bring more

2:21

Vegan Man!: Starting Nola vs. ARI tonight?

2:21

Paul Sporer: Man, I really don’t know. I’m sorry. It’s gotta be situation dependent.

2:22

E: Bedrosian going to be in the mix for saves upon return?

2:22

Paul Sporer: I think so, but Norris is showing some legit skills so Cam will have to take the job away to get it full time

2:22

Don: Need to drop 1 who should I drop? Freeman(DL) Marte(susp) Segura(dl) Villar(DL)A.Sanchez(DL) or Bregman

2:23

Paul Sporer: Damn that’s tough. I think Bregman if I have to cut one

2:23

Rasta: Porcello broken?

2:24

Paul Sporer: Base skills are identical to last year. Allowing more hard contact leading to hits and homers, but I don’t think he’s broken. He’s a high-3.00s, low-4.00s arm

2:25

Dirk Diggler: Hold onto Gerrit Cole and/or deGrom and hope for the best or see if the big names can get me some value in return?

2:25

Paul Sporer: See what the market is offering on the heels of big starts for both, but otherwise I’ll probably ride it out

2:25

Saxamaphone: I just bought CarGo on the cheap. BB% is up, K% is stable, BABIP is LOW, LD, GB, & FB% is consistent with years past. Only difference seems to be his spray chart & maybe some Hard Hit%. Can we expect better production moving forward?

2:26

Paul Sporer: Hell, I don’t think it can get any worse. Feel like there’s gotta be a torrid pace coming soon

2:26

Wally the Green Monster: Believe in Biagini?

2:27

Paul Sporer: Ya I like him, espec. in this pitching-sparse environment

2:27

Carlos Santana: Where has all my power gone?

2:30

Paul Sporer: He’s actually not that far off career levels. Last year was a career-high in HRs, not necessarily a new level

2:30

J: With the Astros running less (Springer and Correa have a combined 0 SB’s), do you see Derek Fisher having much value if he doesn’t steal bases?

2:31

Paul Sporer: He was only 13-for-23 at the minor league level so they might be cautious with running him while he gets used to MLB pitchers

2:31

Drew: Who do you prefer ROS Chris Archer or Carlos Carrasco?

2:31

Paul Sporer: They’re really close for me. I’ll take Archer by a nose

2:33

Richard: Hi Paul.  12 team H2H AL Only.  Would you drop Pujols for Matt Chapman?

2:33

Paul Sporer: No

2:33

Vegan Man!: Buxton, Franco, Happ, or Pirela ROS?

2:33

Paul Sporer: Franco

2:33

Ralph: 16 tm pts. Who do you drop when they all get healthy? JA HAPP, ERod, Morton, or Rodon?

2:34

Paul Sporer: Not sure they’ll be healthy at the same time. What kinda league is it? When healthy, they have value, so I’d have to think you can get something via trade instead of just cutting

2:35

Dave: I tried on twitter, but this is maybe a better place to ask you questions: Should I take his Kershaw+Longoria for my Stanton+Cabrera? 12 team head to head mixed league, we use OBP and QS, but pretty standard otherwise.

2:35

Paul Sporer: Yes, you should

2:35

Philly Phanatic: Any hope for Cueto? Quintana?

2:35

Paul Sporer: For sure, their skills just aren’t commensurate w/the results. Both will be better.

2:36

Pat G: I’ve made three trades in my H2H league. Got trout for JD martinez right after the injury, Alonso for Dahl when Alonso had the minislump and got hurt, and just flipped Cozart for Carpenter right before he got hurt….. Am I a Bad Man?

2:36

Paul Sporer: No, you’re not a bad man. Love the first two, not sure you win the third.

2:36

Luck Dragons: Dee Gordon or Starlin Castro ROS

2:37

Paul Sporer: With Dee, it’s always about the SB need. In terms of total value, he’ll like be higher, but I’d lean Castro if I’m not desperate for SBs bc he offers more

2:37

Vegan Man!: Am I ok with Keon Broxton as my 5th OF in a 12 tm h2h?

2:37

Paul Sporer: 19 HR+SB isn’t bad, but I bet there are better OF on your wire

2:37

Big Tuna: If you had to spec on Saves, who you are eyeing?

2:37

Paul Sporer: Rosenthal, Bradley

2:41

Ian: Next year I’m going to use early pitching picks on elite rp and then just draft the entire Rockies rotation late and bench them at home

2:41

Paul Sporer: Good luck!

2:41

Hanley is Manly: Is Hanley Manly anymore?  What to do with that dude?  He is walking a lot but nothing else is happening.

2:42

Paul Sporer: Barring him playing through an injury (bc his #s look eerily similar to ’15), I think he’ll really heat up in the summer

2:43

John: Devon Travis was my 2B, and after moving him to DL slot, I picked up Chris Taylor. But now I’ve just been offered Pedroia for Jordan Montgomery. Tempted to say yes since I’m worried Travis will be out for months and Taylor may fizzle out. Then again, Montgomery looks like he’s maybe for real. Any advice? Thanks! (12-team mixed 6×6 H2H league.)

2:44

Paul Sporer: Maaaan, I really like Montgomery!! I’m trying not to get too hyped on a rookie, but he’s just been so impressive. I understand the concern on Taylor, but I don’t think a regressed version will be all that much worse than Pedroia (if at all), so I’m gonna say hold

2:44

Dr. J: Alonso? How long can we ride this pony? Are changes in launch angle sustainable?

2:44

Paul Sporer: I’m in for the long haul. The changes are severe and substantial. He’s got power now

2:46

Rob: Are saves free? ?

2:46

Paul Sporer: ??

2:46

Ralph: What do you espect from Mazara next year? Top 80 player in 16 TM pts? I can keep him in 7th round. Is there any value there?

2:47

Paul Sporer: Very much in on Mazara in the long-term, but 7th rd kinda forces him to do something to payout. I’m kinda meh on that price despite being such a fan of the talent

2:47

Rob: Dj or pedroia rest of season? Pedroia’s power looks gone. I know dj doesn’t have it either but at least dj has coors?

2:48

Paul Sporer: DJ rising and still has Coors as you say, so gimme DJ

2:48

Batman22: Mouse or K Seaver ROS in roto?

2:48

Paul Sporer: Man, I know Moose has several more HR to this point, but I don’t see them as too different ROS. Flip a coin

2:48

Vegan Man!: What to do with Carlos Gonzalez in a 14 team dynasty?

2:49

Paul Sporer: Gotta hang on, IMO

2:49

Big Tuna: Shout out to your Friday chats for giving me a glimmer of hope as a teacher in the final weeks of school. It’s madness in these rooms.

2:49

Paul Sporer: Almost time for summer!!!

2:49

Ice Cubicle: Yo, bruh…It’s a good day. It’ll be a better day if Verlander and Tanaka become dependable. You my pitching guru. What up, dawg?

2:51

Paul Sporer: Tell me about it. One of my favorite arms ever and my AL Cy pick, lol. JV is just a little off and batters are fighting off foul balls to stay alive and then do damage. I think he’ll be OK as he works through it. Tanaka is so frustrating bc his base skills are intact, but he’s getting HAMMERED!!! Unless we get something on injuries for these two, I’m riding it out.

2:51

Saul Pporer: When is it time to start checking on owners that are selling in dynasty? I asked two last place guys if they were selling and they were offended i would ask.

2:52

Paul Sporer: There’s no need for them to be offended, this is well within the asking time.

2:52

Paul Sporer: Memorial Day is a big marker for me to start making decisions

2:52

Ian: I’ve basically guaranteed a spot in my 8 team h2h playoffs would it be a good strategy to trade for all the injured players and get a worse seed but have a monster team when they get healthy by the September playoffs

2:52

Paul Sporer: Not all of them, no. Maybe 1-2 key ones

2:52

Tony: I dropped Hill out of frustration yesterday in my 12 tm h2h league. My pitching is fine without him. Still, I’m a little worried it was a bad move. No one trades in my league so no shot there. Plz just tell me I’ll be fine lol

2:53

Paul Sporer: Hasn’t gone more than 5 IP all year, Ks down 1.5 per 9, BB rate more than double. You’re Gucci.

2:53

BK: CarMart for Lamb a fair deal? I’m desperate for power hitting and killing pitching (NL only roto)

2:54

Paul Sporer: I don’t hate it, but I think you can ask for a little more in this pitching environment. Can you stretch it to 2-for-2 where you upgrade your punch at a second position, too?

2:56

Meddlesome Priest: Looking to sell in a deep 20 team roto dynasty. Would my Kyle Seager for either Haniger or Gleyber make sense? Thanks Paul.

2:56

Paul Sporer: I’d get Gleyber over Haniger

2:57

Snowflake: MI has been my weakness all year. Drafted Forsyth, Zobrist and Miller. Dropped them all. Now I have Brandon Crawford. You like him or keep it moving to Happ or Pirela?

2:57

Paul Sporer: I like B Craw, would hold him over the others.

2:58

Jim: Better closer prospect grab: Bedrosian or Oh?

2:58

Jim: *rosenthal lol woops

2:58

Paul Sporer: Rosy IMO. He’s throwing some of his best ball

3:02

Tommy: Howdy Paul. Little catcher conundrum here. 10 team H2H cats. I drafted Posey & managed to scoop Wilson Ramos a while back. Need SP help (who doesn’t). Would you try to deal Posey for a top SP & rely on Ramos ROS, or shop Ramos for a lesser SP? What can I expect from Ramos?

3:02

Paul Sporer: I’d try to get an ace-type for Posey, though you might have to wait a few days after he got nicked yesterday

3:03

Burt Lancaster asMoonlightGraham: Just to follow up on Alonso, is he a good sell candidate to get a mid level closer (my bullpen is garbage), or would you hold based on him sustaining his changes?

3:03

Paul Sporer: I’m not against that for Alonso

3:04

Bobby Big Wheel: Drop Gausman for either Lugo or Pomeranz??

3:04

Paul Sporer: Yes, gimme Pomeranz

3:04

Braník Best: Is nick pivetta for real in 10 team leagues? I feel like with starting pitching so demolished, he won’t be around when he has his next start.

3:06

Paul Sporer: I could maybe a decimated staff getting him in 15-team, but not 10 team

3:06

TC: SP ratings getting updated soon?  Any big movers?

3:07

Paul Sporer: Yes and probably, but I don’t know who yet. Lots of work on em this weekend

3:07

Ninja Black Sock: Robbie Ray or Luis Severino who do you prefer?

3:07

Paul Sporer: I gotta go Ray by a little

3:09

Alex: Is Dansby starting to turn it around?

3:09

Paul Sporer: Ya, really cutting his Ks and not carrying a tiny BABIP anymore

3:10

Marichal: Which Rockies starters drop out of the rotation when Anderson and Gray return in a couple of weeks? Senzatela, Chatwood, Freeland, Hoffman, or Marquez?

3:12

Paul Sporer: Knowing this year, 2 guys will get hurt to open the spots. I’d say Freeland for sure and then I really don’t know. I’d prob push Senzatela, but my gut says Marquez

3:12

Dr. J: Gio or J. Montgomery ROS?

3:12

Paul Sporer: Monty

3:12

Ralph: Hernan Perez. Does he have a ft job when Braun comes back? Seems like counsell loves snogard at 2nd

3:14

Paul Sporer: I think Hernan keeps his PT. He’s been really solid and WAY better than I thought. I thought he was a stone-cold fluke last year … maybe I’m just bitter the Tigers ditched him lol

3:14

Philly Phanatic: Is there an estimated date for your next SP rankings?

3:14

Paul Sporer: Next Wed-Thur

3:15

Drenjamin: Is it okay to vote Team B out of the league if one more trade like this transpires with Team A?
2016: Kyle Seager for Jon Lester (Team B dropped Seager 2 weeks prior to the trade)
2016: Adrian Gonzalez for McCutchen
2016: Britton and Pearce for Kinsler (Team B had 6 relievers already)
2017: Derek Holland and Morales for Springer

3:15

Paul Sporer: If you want to move out of the league next year, that’s fine, but you gotta let people run their team as they see fit. Seager was cut prior to or after the trade?

3:15

Rasta: Is there any position player that you wouldn’t trade straight up for Scherzer or Sale if you needed pitching? Or just hold the elite bat and try to cobble something together?

3:16

Paul Sporer: Harper and Healthy Trout

3:16

Paul Sporer: Otherwise, I’m OK ponying up for those elite aces

3:17

Zark: Lance Lynn’s peripherals don’t back the ERA up. Thoughts on ROS?

3:18

Paul Sporer: In fairness, they kinda never do for Lynn. His HR spike is the only real worry I have, but I still value him as a mid-3.00s arm

3:18

F Scott Fitz: I’m a long time Chris Davis owner in a dynasty league. Needless to say the last few years have been frustrating. Should I look to move him for a prospect at this point?

3:18

Paul Sporer: I’d probably ride it out a bit longer so you’re not selling completely low

3:19

Trevor Story: Is this the real me or will go on a crazy hit streak?

3:20

Paul Sporer: I think Story heats up. These kinda lows are something we sign up for with a 30%+ K rate guy

3:25

Boof: I just added Julio Teheran in a 10-teamer for Adam Wainwright. If you take out his two shelled starts, since May 10, Teheran has a 1.72 ERA. Seems like the turnaround is coming, no?

3:26

Paul Sporer: Don’t hate the move, but as for Teheran specifically I just don’t see enough in the base skills to be SUPER excited about a return. Even in those good outings, he’s still not getting Ks, walking too many, and allowing HRs

3:27

Guest: Can I bench Polanco for Trumbo/Fowler in a 12-teamer or do I just have to keep running him out there and hope he can put it together?

3:27

Paul Sporer: I’m fine with benching

3:27

Pie: A league mate has told me he’s more or less throwing in the towel for this season in our 12 team, keep 5 (for up to 4 years) league. Is my Cody Bellinger (will be kept at half-ESPN price next year) for his Carlos Martinez (likely not kept) a fair deal?

3:27

Paul Sporer: Ya I think that’s a good offer for someone punting rest of the yaer

3:27

Paul Sporer: year*

3:27

Bernie Brewer: Since Freeman got hurt, I’ve been looking to trade for a 1B unsuccesfully.  Lowering my expectations now, but who is most sustainable: R. Zimmerman, Smoak, Bour?

3:28

Paul Sporer: I’d go Zimm, Bour, Smoak. Zimm & Bour are close

3:29

Tim: Paul! I went away for a long weekend and now my team sucks! Fix it!

3:29

Paul Sporer: CUT EVERYONE AND START OVER!!!!

3:29

Edwin: Bellinger for degrom … no-brainer for the degrom-getter?

3:29

Paul Sporer: Not sure it’s a no-brainer with some of his struggles, but I’d do it

3:29

Grux : Do you like any other modes in The Show. I’ve only played DD for a bit and like it but I love RRTTS and Franchise

3:30

Paul Sporer: Love DD as well. I can’t get hooked on RTTS these days after playing a ton in ’14, but I do like Franchise

3:30

Andrew: I have an offer of Alex Wood and Justin Turner for my Jake Lamb. I should take this in a H2H league, right?

3:30

Paul Sporer: Holy shit, yes

3:30

RJ: Is B Hamilton hurt? Just slumping? Are you worried?

3:30

Paul Sporer: Or still not a good hitter

3:30

Paul Sporer: That said, he is battling a thumb injury

3:31

Paul Sporer: I’m not worried bc I never have any expectations for him beyond the SBs

3:31

JD15: Which side do you prefer: Schwarber and Givens or Stras and K. Herrera in a holds and saves league?

3:31

Paul Sporer: side B

3:32

Matt: Could you give us a few buy-low guys you’re eyeing as trade targets lately?

3:33

Paul Sporer: Not sure Machado would be available, but ANY discount would be appealing. Otherwise, Franco, Cargo, Frazier for hitters; Cole, Cueto, Tanaka for pitchers

3:33

Me: Can you rank ROS? Cotton, Clevinger, Biagini, Faria.

3:34

Paul Sporer: Hmm, off the dome I’d say Biagini, Faria, Cotton, Clevinger, but I could see Clev maybe passing Cotton after SP deep-dive this weekend for my upcoming rankings update

3:34

Matt: Also just wanna say your long-ass Friday chats are the best. Really appreciate you doing these every week.

3:34

Matt: (Even with your Robbie Ray opinions)

3:34

Paul Sporer: Thanks for the kind words!

3:34

Paul Sporer: Eager to see if this mechanical change is a driving force behind Ray’s recent success. 2 big starts at home was great, though I didn’t really flinch with the SD one. The MIL one was nice, though

3:35

Nick: Kepler legit or will he be league average WRC+ wise?

3:35

Paul Sporer: I think he’ll linger around average rest of this year, but I do think he can be a 115 kind of guy in the future

3:35

Dirk Diggler: Duvall or Justin Upton?

3:36

Paul Sporer: J Up but they’re pretty close. Duvall has impressed me by holding up well this season

3:36

Jose: Berrios is berri good

3:36

Paul Sporer: I’m a huge fan!

3:36

dave in slc: which braves starter do you like better ros of teheran and folty? can newcombe be better than either or both?

3:37

Paul Sporer: Teheran. Eh, he *could*, but I’d wanna be careful on not overrating his first start w/just 2 BB. He walked 5 per nine in the minors so I see some major blowups in Newcomb’s future, too

3:37

John: Think Wilson Ramos will have a better ROS than Lucroy?  This is seeming more and more like one of Lucroy’s unproductive years (beyond BA)…

3:37

Paul Sporer: I have a hard time going that far w/Ramos coming off a severe injury, but I understand the Lucroy frustration

3:37

Drenjamin: Will Miggy have more power #’s RoS? His hitting profile thus far seems to show he should, but there’s the “playing through injuries” concern

3:39

Paul Sporer: Ya the back is a real concern. Wonder if a 2 week stint on the DL would help or if he just has to keep grinding through it. Healthy Miggy would be about 20 HR ROS, so ailing back Miggy is 16-17

3:39

dave in slc: does knebel stay in milwakee and keep the role all season?

3:39

Paul Sporer: I think so, yes

3:39

Jose: Mazara or Haniger ROS?

3:39

Paul Sporer: Haniger is more fully formed

3:39

Alex: Story was just recently dropped in my deep 12-teamer. You think I should pounce?

3:39

Paul Sporer: Probably. I only say that bc I don’t know your MI situation, but someone in the league should. I’m not leaving Story free in a 12-teamer

3:40

Crazy Aunt Marie : Curious how you view this trade. In a keeper I moved Arenado and Stanton for Rizzo and Donaldson. To me Rizzo was a big get as he’s about to be 2nd base eligible. Good move despite the large age gap between Arenado and Donaldson?

3:40

Paul Sporer: I get the appeal of Rizzo w/the 2B elig. and that certainly makes it more palatable. I just love Arenado so much that I would’ve had a hard time doing it, but I don’t hate it

3:40

Mitch Haniger: Do you think offering me for CarGo can get it done right now?

3:41

Paul Sporer: I would hope so, but I don’t think I wanna do that even though I recommend buying low on Cargo. I’m a big Haniger fan so I’d trying something else

3:41

JD15: You buyin what Zunnino is selling? I know he’s done it before but he’s a hot bat at a premium position

3:41

Paul Sporer: No, never. Or at least not until he shows some discernible skill improvement. As you mentioned, we’ve been here before

3:41

Ant: You starting Tanaka tomorrow @ OAK?

3:42

Paul Sporer: If you can’t start at OAK, you gotta cut him so yes I am

3:42

Pat G: I’ll admit, Cozart gave me the most pause, but based on exit velo and track record, I’m sticking with Carp.

3:42

Paul Sporer: I’m OK with your reasoning, but I think Cozart’s gains are legit

3:42

Trout: G. Polanco or Bradley Zimmer ROS and, say, the next 2-3 years?

3:42

Paul Sporer: Wish I had a crystal ball to see Polanco’s shoulder health. I still love Polly, so I’ll go with him now and future, but that shoulder is worrisome

3:43

Menta: Okay to drop Thor in shallow redrafts?  Tried trading, but no takers.

3:43

Paul Sporer: Yeah, a month til he touches a ball

3:43

Drenjamin: Kimbrel, Chapman, Kenley, or Britton?

3:43

Paul Sporer: Kenley, Kimbrel, Chap, Britton is my rank

3:43

FGM: crazy to trade Arrieta for Thor in a dynasty, even if I’m competing this year?

3:43

Paul Sporer: Hmmm, no I actually kinda like that even though you’re sacrificing for this year. Sure, you’re competing, but not BECAUSE of Arrieta

3:43

TheDuck: How does the news that Miggy has been playing through multiple injuries effect your ROS projections for him?

3:44

Paul Sporer: I kinda figured he was, tbh, but it speaks to his greatness bc his profile is still intact and suggests he’ll get his numbers. I gotta knock a few HRs off the projection, but he’s still going to be good. This creates a buying opp. IMO

3:44

Rich: What’s your must read book or books  for anyone who is really into sabermetrics?

3:45

Paul Sporer: Ahead of the Curve by Brian Kenny was really good. Love the Travis Sawchik and Jonah Keri books on PIT and TB, respectively. The Arm isn’t sabermetrics, but it’s amazing

3:45

Paul: Got offered Dickerson straight up for Holland. OF currently has Braun, JD, Polanco, Conforto. RPs are Holland, Giles, Rivero, Ottavino, Bedrosian. H2H categories. Desperately need someone else’s take here other than my own. Dickerson seems like major regression candidate, but is Holland too expensive a price?

3:46

Paul Sporer: Understand the Dickerson regression concerns, though I don’t see an implosion coming or anything. Counter wth GIles?

3:46

Carl Jrrrrr: Any thoughts on Joc Pederson? Is he a buy low for later this season?

3:47

Paul Sporer: Not really. Low AVG power is freely available everywhere. I’ve been such a big Joc backer in the past, but a lot of that was contingent upon him developing at the plate and bringing his minor lg speed to the majors, neither of which has happened

3:47

Love Position Flexibility: Thanks for the chats, Paul. I have Chris Taylor but Brandon Drury is available–do I make that switch? Worried about Taylor slowing down, but also about Drury’s home-road splits

3:47

Paul Sporer: I like Drury a lot, I’d favor him

3:47

CT: I have Matt Bush as a third, backup CP… drop him for Rosenthal? (Diaz, Knebel are primary)

3:48

Paul Sporer: With him being a CP already, you can probably get something, right? Do a 2-for-1 that leaves you an open spot (or 2-for-2 with some shmuck you’ll cut and then get Rosy). If the trade isn’t available, I still don’t hate the move, but I just feel like a closer on a halfway decent tm would net SOMETHING

3:48

Rasta: Better production ROS: Hicks or Schebler?

3:48

Paul Sporer: Hicks if he’s not seriously injured

3:48

Trip McNealy: Make me excited about picking up Matt Davidson, if that’s possible

3:48

Paul Sporer: It’s not

3:48

TheDuck: How many BIP events does it take for launch angle and exit velocity changes to stabilize?

3:49

Paul Sporer: Good question, I’m not entirely sure, but I think it’s like 50-75

3:49

Rosewood : Is Carlos Santana dropable? 12 TM, H2H Cat. I have Miggy and Bour but Santana is also OF eligible on a good offense

3:49

Paul Sporer: The OF eligibility helps, but OF/1B are the deep positions this yr. I think he gets going, but you seem set without him once Bour returns

3:49

Nick: Do you think Matt Strahm could eventually be a #2/3 starter for the Royals? Stuff looks great.

3:49

Paul Sporer: WAY down the line, but I do really like his stuff

3:50

Paul Sporer: OK y’all, I gotta get going. Gotta work on this SP ranking update!

3:50

Martin: Many owners in my league are convinced pitching is less valuable than hitting and have pretty unreasonable in trade negotiations. I have no question but it’s annoying. I offered Wood for Conforto and was laughed at. 16 tm 6×6 h2h keeper league

3:50

Paul Sporer: That’s insane, it’s the opposite. Pitching should be HEAVILY valued

3:50

Dirk Diggler: Why is Anthony Rizzo so overrated?

3:50

Paul Sporer: Bc he’s on the Cubs? Although this 2B eligibility will certainly help

3:51

Paul Sporer: Let’s not confuse overrated and bad, btw. He’s VERY VERY good, but I agree he gets treated as unquestionably elite and I don’t think he’s there

3:51

Mr Cotton: Am I ever gonna figure it out?

3:51

Paul Sporer: I’m still in long-term (so dynasty leagues), but Cotton just doesn’t have the command I thought he did

3:52

Paul Sporer: OK, gotta go for real. Have a great weekend. Pod with Jason tomorrow, Roto Riteups from me all weekend, and then SP update next week! Follow me on Twitter @sporer, on Snapchat at psporer, and on Twitch at twitch.tv/psporer24!

Paul Sporer: Take care!

I need to drop a player to activate myself and don’t want to give up my buddy Grandal. Do I dump Bregman, Castellanos, DiDi or Andrelton Simmons (I have no other 3b or SS). 12 team 6×6 OBP league
