Paul Sporer Baseball Chat – April 14th, 2017

We went over four hours! Lots of pickup and “slow start” chatter. I’m not really worried about any top 15ish round picks so far, but definitely open to making moves on late rounders who are meant to be churned.

2:07

Paul Sporer: It’s Fridayyyyyy and we’ve got big arms going everywhere today! Kershaw, Thor, Cueto, Archer, Strasburg, Cole, Greinke, Hendricks, Tanaka, Wacha, Sanchez, Teheran, Porcello, Duffy, Felix, and Keuchel plus interesting arms like Nola, Norris, and Graveman.

2:08

Paul Sporer: Aw man, can’t post links anymore?

2:08

Paul Sporer: Nevermind, they just auto work now.

2:08

rich: Josh Donaldson damn you! Who would you pick up out of Casty, Suarez, Drury or Travis Shaw?

2:08

Paul Sporer: Ooh nice group. I’d go Casty. He looks amazing at the dish this year, even on his outs

2:08

Bob: Would you drop Gsellman for Severino or Liriano?

2:09

Paul Sporer: Not against it. Would prefer Liriano

2:09

Mychal: Encouraged by what you’ve seen from Eric Thames so far? Still a 10-team bat for you?

2:09

Paul Sporer: Definitely encouraged and believe he’s an all-formats play still

2:09

Don: Who do you prefer, Daniel Norris or Mike Foltynewicz?

2:10

Paul Sporer: Norris, but in the same thick tier so it’s more preference than discernible differences

2:10

Gucci: Hey Paul with the news that Joe Ross is coming up next week to face ATL what is your projection for him ROS? Seems Nats will have a tight leash on him

2:12

Paul Sporer: They only called up Guthrie because Ross hadn’t been down for 10 days and they needed an arm. He’s their fifth starter. I think he can get 165+ IP after 128 last year

2:12

Colin: Do you think velocity gains/losses matter more for hard-throwers than soft tossers(like kuma)?

2:13

Paul Sporer: I think the real answer is that it’s case-by-case, but I’d think soft-tossers could have more issues since they were already working with a smaller margin for error at the lower velo.

2:13

Tom: First week of free agency on Tuesday in my AL-only keeper league, so I would greatly appreciate your guidance. Please rank the following available options: M. Gonzalez/ Gallo/Grossman/J. Jones/L.Morrison. Thanks very much!

2:13

Paul Sporer: Morrison (strong-side platoon guy), Jones, Gallo, Grossman, Gonzalez

2:13

Bob: Would you rather have Santana or Broxton?

2:15

Paul Sporer: Just not seeing Broxton cut into that K%, so I’m leaning Santana

2:15

Maxamuz: When are you going to heat up? You’re hitting .244 with a .628 OPS and I expected more out of you…wait…thats right, you’re not Christian Yelich. My bad McLovin, any idea when he will heat up?

2:15

Paul Sporer: Not sweating it at all. Established players get at least a month before I even blink on their numbers.

2:17

Guest: See anything you like out of Ryu? Drop him for ERod?

2:18

Paul Sporer: Lil bit, keeping an eye out, but still prefer Rodriguez.

2:18

Miky: Hey Paul, co can Travis d’Arnaud be for real this time?

2:19

Paul Sporer: Talent seems legit, but health has regularly been the issue so I’m not going crazy

2:19

Texas Dolly: Is Leclerc the guy to stash in the Texas bullpen right now?

2:20

Paul Sporer: He’s a deep league stash only right now. Matt Bush when healthy is easily the #2, but his health and Jeffress having done it before had me leaning his way, but then he lost that game that Dyson blew the other night. And the only reason I give credence to the “done it before” stuff is because that was cited re: Tony Barnette, who supposedly would’ve gotten the chance if a true save opp had come up the night that LeClerc got his 2-inning save.

2:21

Paul Sporer: In summary, it’s Dyson, Bush, Jeffress, Barnette, LeClerc when all healthy and going, but right now it seems to be Dyson, Barnette, Jeffress, LeClerc with Bush TBD on the shoulder stuff

2:21

J.T.: When do you expect Bradley Zimmer to get the call up? I’m debating if I should snag him now or wait a few more weeks…

2:22

Paul Sporer: Around Memorial Day if he performs in AAA. Don’t sleep on Greg Allen, though

2:22

Paul Sporer: I’ve only gotten one spin on the new Kendrick, but I’m digging it for sure.

2:24

bob: who is your sneakiest buy low right now

2:24

Paul Sporer: Bronson Arroyo

2:25

Paul Sporer: Just kidding. Nelson Cruz or Gerrit Cole

2:25

Joey Bats: I know its only april but bautista has me concerned. what does his final batting line look like at season’s end?

2:26

Paul Sporer: I’m not sweating him yet

2:27

Paul Sporer: Btw, Edwin Encarnacion has some high profile shitty plate appearances (2 GIDPs in that home opener) and people seem to freak out over him during his annual slump, so he might also be a nice buy low. Though on the other hand, I don’t love guys in year 1 of a big contract w/a new team

2:27

George is Curious: Assuming you have a few glaring needs to fill and know that virtually every other team in your league does as well, what’s the most % of your budget do you consider dropping in week one of free agency? For context, it’s a $260 11-team NL-only league, and it’s a deep enough league that there aren’t many good options available.

2:28

Paul Sporer: It’ll always come back to what’s available. Don’t force it. If the right player is there, you jump and you can spend 30-50% on a guy (like if Anthony Rendon was cut or something insane), but otherwise you should be high end 10-15% on a player you really like. Sounds like you’re not super keen on anyone, so 5-10% bids on guys you’re interested in

2:29

Paul Sporer: Adjust a bit for your league since you said they also have needs. Some leagues don’t have big FAABers so they can be less aggressive, others have INSANE FAAB periods and have to 1.5-2x the estimates we give

2:29

Tres Bien: I’m intrigued by Trey Mancini. He seems like a guy the Orioles should be starting more often. You a fan?

2:32

Paul Sporer: Big pop, but lots of swing-and-miss. Will hit HRs if the playing time is there, but who should he really play over?

2:32

Mel: Start or bench Nola @ a hot Washington team and Strasburg today? 10-team league with 180 GS limit.

2:33

Paul Sporer: With the limit, I think it’s a fair question, but I’d start him.

2:33

Rick: I can’t get good players on Diamond Dynasty ?

2:34

Paul Sporer: Have you started grinding conquest? There are amazing rewards there

2:35

Colin: What pitcher do you want to call a fraud at this very moment

2:36

Paul Sporer: Fraud bc they’re performing worse than last year or bc they’re over their head right now? If it’s the latter, it’s definitely Andrew Triggs and Jason Vargas. Hisashi Iwakuma doesn’t deserve his early ERA at all, either

2:36

Roger Dodger: Does Gallo become the starter in LF once Beltre returns?

2:37

Paul Sporer: I don’t think so, Tim

2:37

Gucci: What’s your take on Severino? Finally realizing his potential of just flashing it yet again. Looks like he’s a 2 start SP next week vs CWS and BAL

2:39

Paul Sporer: Entirely too early to tell. Remember, many were ready to declare him realizing the potential after 62.3 IP in ’15 and he clearly wasn’t that good. Intriguing arm for sure, but more ups and downs are ahead. Only 2 pitches and a persistent HR issue.

2:39

Sleepless in Seattle: Can Tayler Motter find regular playing time in the Mariners’ lineup even after Segura returns?

2:39

Paul Sporer: Would it really matter if he could?

2:40

Paul Sporer: Half-joking. He could pop a few homers and run a bit, though we haven’t seen a single SB attempt in 40 MLB games

2:40

Mackannin: I dont know what to do with Vincent Velazquez. is he going to be up and down all year a la Pineda?

2:41

Paul Sporer: Yes, he’s just 25 still and many believed the bullpen was his future when he was coming up through the minors. I think the tools are there to start, but he’s figuring it out on the job

2:41

Andy: Anybody in the Rangers pen you’d be rostering right now in 10-team?

2:41

Paul Sporer: Probably only Dyson if I was desperate. He hasn’t been removed from the job yet.

2:42

Paul Sporer:

2:42

Bob Loblaw: When the Royals finally get the memo and send Mondesi down, is Merrifield the guy who starts in his place? If so, can he improve upon last year’s numbers?

2:43

Paul Sporer: Tough crowd, he’s gotten 30 PA! That said, it hasn’t been great and he is just 21 so it will be a short-lived trial if he doesn’t turn it around. I think he gets another week to 10 days

2:43

Lars: Dylan Bundy: hold or stream in 10-team? Thanks, Paul!

2:43

Paul Sporer: Hold, upside is huge

2:46

They’re…..Not so Great!!!: Who do you like between Mahtook and Collins? Any fantasy upside to be had with either?

2:46

Paul Sporer: Collins if I have to choose and only bc he has the platoon advantage

2:47

Bill: Are you concerned about Villar? He’s been striking out like crazy, not drawing walks, chasing more and making less contact, etc. but he does have 3 home runs already. Do you think he’s just changed his approach to try and add power?

2:47

Paul Sporer: Not overly concerned. In fact, I’d probably entertain a buy low if there was a real discount.

2:47

Ed: Is it easier for high contact, low power prospects to grow into power than it is for power hitting, low contact prospects to cut their strikeout rate?

2:48

Paul Sporer: I would think so generally speaking because part of the strikeout rate of power hitters is built-in because they get into deep counts looking for that pitch to hit and/or get pitched differently because of the power. It isn’t always just a slow swing or anything like that.

2:48

Steve-o: Hello there. What type of talent would you target in exchange for Tanaka? I have too much pitching (H2H points).

2:49

Paul Sporer: These are too vague to give useful answers, I’m sorry. There are just sooo many variables, but maybe look back at ADP and look for guys you’re interested in around him: http://hosted.stats.com/mlb/adp.asp — many still use draft day pricing as a guide when making early trades

2:50

Paul Sporer: I’d be careful in thinking you have too much pitching 10 games into the season, though. That can change SO quickly. You hear the phrase you can never have too many pitching applied to real teams, but it applies in fantasy, too

2:50

Yoaning For More: Other than Moncada, would you be so kind as to name two prospects in each league that are likely to be called up sooner rather than later and should be stashed immediately?

2:51

Paul Sporer: Bradley Zimmer for Cleveland, Lewis Brinson for Milwaukee

2:51

SP stash: Thoughts on Honeywell possibly coming up before DeLeon? And if so, how soon? Honeywell has been solid

2:52

Paul Sporer: It’s just not TB’s m.o. to do such, especially w/Honeywell in AA and De Leon having already pitched in the majors

2:52

Chris: You a fan of Aaron Hicks? I liked him as a sleeper going into the year and he almost had the starting job until Judge finally started hitting. Now I’m not sure what to make of him.

2:54

Paul Sporer: Ya I love Hicks and was all over him last year. I’m always happy when I see him going off a bit at the dish. It’s really a matter of getting consistent playing time, which has eluded him thus far in his career save that one spell where he hit really well while playing every day. We’ll see if Judge’s K% is real, but if not then Hicks will need injury to Ellsbury or Gardner to get that regular PT. He’s a deep league stash or DFS play when in the lineup right now

2:54

Eric: Concern level on Nelson Cruz’s slow start? He’s at that age where it all could come crashing down

2:55

Paul Sporer: Virtually zero. Yes, he’s older, but man that would be an epic out of nowhere crash after three straight excellent seasons

2:55

Steve-o: Young Joc Pederson for Maeda (in a vacuum). Nice deal for which side?

2:56

Paul Sporer: I’d go for Joc

2:56

Ant: Adrian Gonzalez still a 10-team stick for you?

2:56

Paul Sporer: ya he gets his numbers and I’m not sure 1B is deep enough to jettison him. Maybe he’s CI now, but still holding

2:56

Pat: Paul, I’m starting Teheran tonight and I don’t know what to expect with the new park. He has amazing stats at-home in his career, do you think we can carry those over to SunTrust?

2:57

Paul Sporer: We won’t really know how SunTrust plays for a while, but I’m still starting Teheran everywhere… except maybe Coors in a 10-teamer, but I don’t sit strong #2s

2:57

C’est Moi: Anything to worry about with Edwin Diaz yet? Is Altavilla the guy to own if you’re looking for a handcuff?

2:59

Paul Sporer: Too early to be concerned, but yes Altavilla is someone to keep an eye on if Diaz struggles for another several weeks, especially if there are big meltdowns

2:59

Gorky: Is Aaron Judge viable as a 10-team bat where we start five outfielders?

2:59

Paul Sporer: Not for me. You can ride the wave if you have a spot open for injury, but I’d be willing to bet there are better bats on the wire

2:59

Rob: I have Healy and Panda as my 3B options in a 12 tm obp keeper. Any struggling 3B you believe in to try and pry away so I can drop Panda? Villar? thanks

3:00

Paul Sporer: If you can get Villar, I’d be interested. Rendon or Seager also worth inquiring on for a discount

3:00

Art: Is Manny Margot the real deal? Because, wow…

3:01

Paul Sporer: Real deal how? He might reach double-digit homers, but I like him as a speed option with decent AVG and runs (decent for SD at least)

3:08

Matthew: Can/will Billy Hamilton’s batting average really stick in the .300 range? Any reason to think this is an illusion?

3:09

Paul Sporer: It certainly *can* because his speed can cover some of the deficiency in actual hitting talent, but I’m not buying that just yet

3:09

Chris: In 10 keeper league was offered Arenado for Bregman, Arrieta, Urias & Trea Turner. Am I nuts for thinking this was an absurd request? I love Arenado but come on

3:10

Paul Sporer: LOL, ya that’s ambitious.

3:10

NY state of mind: Will Conforto work his way into the starting lineup soon? He’s been solid when given the opportunity. Have him play 1B I say.

3:11

Paul Sporer: Not unless there is a trade (unlikely at this pt) or injury. Duda playing well enough to hold 1B and then he’ll spot in at OF but unfortunately they have an abundance of lefties so there are no platoon options

3:11

Steve: drop Jankowski or David Peralta for Jimmy Nelson? H2H 12 man OBP instead of AVG and QS instead of W

3:11

Paul Sporer: No, I wouldn’t

3:11

Colin: Gausman or Bundy ROS?

3:12

Paul Sporer: Gausman, but Bundy has an up arrow for sure

3:12

Starburns: Yo Paul. Are you guys down to twice a week with the podcast now? Also, I know you love Granderson, so I’m interested to hear your take on the Conforto cluster in New York.

3:12

Paul Sporer: No, addressed it on yesterday’s pod. Working on a guest list and it starts Monday with Glenn Colton of Colton & Wolfman. And I’ll be starting the solo eps once a week soon, too. So we’ll be at 3-4 per week starting Monday

3:12

Steve-o: Snell and Shoe are out on waivers. Drop Pence (replace with Peralta/Drury) and pick one of them up, right?

3:13

Paul Sporer: How many teams? Probably no, but it seems you have an abundance of OF

3:13

LA Mike: Do you anticipate slight improvement from Shoemaker going forward? Have him as my 4th SP

3:13

Edd: David Peralta is off to a wobbly start. Would you still try to hold him in shallow formats?

3:13

Paul Sporer: These Shoemaker/Peralta questions are all in a row. Did y’all team up to do this? lol

3:14

Paul Sporer: I’m not moving on Shoemaker or Peralta yet. They have both shown legitimate high-level performance in the majors, they get more than 2 weeks before moving on

3:14

JD15: My pitching staff has some decent injury risk (Hill, Darvish, Salazar) should I look to be trading one so I don’t have a complete explosion?

3:14

Paul Sporer: You drafted them knowing you had the risk but also major upside, so why move out now? Stick with it.

3:14

Kevin: What are your thoughts on Zach Davies – getting beat up out there first couple starts.

3:17

Paul Sporer: I wasn’t a huge Davies guy coming in, but got some shares on the word of some I trust so I’m going to stick around a little longer. He wasn’t in the lineup in the mixer where I have him and the other is an NL Only so I don’t think cutting him would be wise just yet

3:17

dave in slc: still no pitcher ranking update? Or did I miss it?

3:17

Paul Sporer: It got pushed, but I promise it’s actually being worked on

3:17

Bottom tier: Can I count on Cobb, or would you consider him a well high since he’s healthy? He should have had a QS last time out, but was pushed beyond 7 innings for some odd reason

3:18

Paul Sporer: I’ve always been a huge fan, but Eno has concerns on the changeup so I’m keeping a close eye – http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/where-did-alex-cobbs-changeup-go/ — hold for now

3:18

David: 12 team OF hungry lineup, how aggressively would you bid on Judge? Thanks.

3:19

Paul Sporer: 15%? I’m just not sold that he’s all that different and thus we’re probably seeing one of his hot streaks as opposed to the start of a huge breakout

3:19

Andrew: 6×6 roto with QS replacing W, are you dealing Colome to get Manaea or Paxton if you have extra saves?

3:19

Paul Sporer: Paxton for sure. I have Paxton firmly ahead of Manaea

3:19

Ricky Cobb: Does Familia close immediately when he returns next Thursday. Okay to drop Addy Reed in 10-teamer to add a stick?

3:20

Paul Sporer: We usually see the team say they’ll ease a guy in so Reed could get another 1-2 the week after Familia returns, but I think you can safely drop him if you have other saves and there’s a bat you really like.

3:20

Nasty Nate: Think Berrios is called up in near future? If so, you in?

3:22

Paul Sporer: Yes and yes. He’s been amazing in the minors even surrounding that ugly debut last year

3:22

Guest: Braves rotation is sponsored by AARP- do they have anyone in AAA I should be paying attention to?

3:23

Paul Sporer: Hahaha. Keeping a close eye on Wisler, Newcomb, and even Blair

3:23

Seabass: Paul can we get an OOTP update? How’s the Griffey/Pedro combo?

3:24

Paul Sporer: I haven’t been playing much lately. I’ve been *trying* to play The Show when the servers work and then just been busy watching games and doing work. But I will be playing again very soon. Probably going to restart a 90s or 00s franchise on OOTP18 (which you can get w/a discount using SLEEPER18 as the code)

3:24

Seabass: Star Wars or Star Trek?

3:24

Paul Sporer: Neither? Not a huge Sci-fi guy

3:24

Bob: Do you think A.J. Ramos is going to lose his job?

3:25

Paul Sporer: Not necessarily, no. I mean, his walk rate is sketchy, but he has nasty stuff and I actually like him more than most

3:25

Linus: Conforto has looked SO good. But we can’t add him yet in 10-team, can we?

3:26

Paul Sporer: Nah, probably not. Maaaaybe daily leagues to spot him, but the playing time just isn’t enough

3:26

Nats backup plan: I own both Glover & S.Kelley. Is it time to cut bait on Kelley for say Folty, or Triggs? I feel if a change does happen it’s Glover over Kelley.

3:26

Paul Sporer: For Folty, yeah

3:26

Maxamuz: I’m not dropping Big Vinny V but dang, can we send him some good vibes so he can gain some command and control?

3:26

Paul Sporer: The plight of young fireballers

3:27

Yuca: In my NL-only today, somebody traded $50 FAAB ($100 budget) for Curtis Granderson. You ever see something like that? And what do you think?

3:27

Paul Sporer: I have seen FAAB for player deals, but even as the biggest Curtis fan out there, that’s extreme

3:28

Boggs Challenger: Why isn’t Grienke given any more love? Outside of his four terrible starts in 2016 he was really good, plus his velo seems right in line with where he usually is at this point in a season. What gives?!?

3:29

Paul Sporer: Last year was tough and because it included injury, it pushed some off of him. Plus it’s a tough park. That said, he was still a top-30 guy who many believed could rebound. I liked the discount and thought he was a worthy investment

3:29

Nick Miller: Is conforto worth holding in a deep mixed league?

3:29

Paul Sporer: yes in a deeper leagues for sure

3:29

Rob: Sell high on Bundy? Thinking maybe 2 for 1 with Wacha, yay or nay?

3:29

Paul Sporer: Bundy and Wacha for something? If you can cash in big, yes.

3:30

Your Friend: I bought hard into the Taijuan Walker hype post-spurs. Tell me why I should still be optimistic…

3:30

Paul Sporer: You mean other than the fact that it’s been 11 innings?

3:30

Paul Sporer: Surely two starts can’t have changed your opinion THAT much?

3:30

dave in slc: AL only best replacement for Donaldson.. Matt Davidson, Logan Morrison, Romine, Mancini, Torreyes, Motter, Tyler Collins or Jacoby Jones? Who are your top 2 or 3 of the group? A few of your tigers in there!

3:32

Paul Sporer: Morrison’s PT seems to be there so I’ll put him tops. Romine is a swing change guy as he acknowledged that 60% GBs just won’t get it done. Mancini or Davidson if you just want power absent anything else (including regular PT)

3:32

Quadrangular: so Jason Vargas is inducing more swings and misses and groundballs than ever, this is just extremely SSS yea?

3:33

Paul Sporer: Ya it is, but I can see some AL-only viability (meaning his normal high-3.00s, low-4.00s, but with a few extra Ks)

3:33

Bruce: Adam Jones or Nelson Cruz?

3:33

Paul Sporer: Cruz

3:33

Isaiah: Is this the year Yo Cespy bashes 40?

3:33

Paul Sporer: if he plays 150+, yes

3:33

Don: Assuming Moncada is called up in mid-May, do you think he can be a top 10 fantasy 2B the rest of the year?

3:34

Paul Sporer: Possible, but very unlikely

3:34

Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: Yo Paul, let’s throw down on the Show sometime. What’s the best way to set this up? Also, Joc or Piscottyv

3:34

Paul Sporer: Piscotty. Hit me up in my Twitch streams (twitch.tv/psporer24) — I’ll be on tonight and tomorrow if the servers are cooperating

3:34

George: Any concerns that Trea Turner’s “minor” hamstring injury affects his ROS outlook?

3:34

Paul Sporer: Any time a speedster gets a lower half injury it’s concerning

3:35

Paul Sporer: But I’m not freaking out right now

3:35

Bruce: Is Josh Hader worth holding onto in a redraft?

3:35

Paul Sporer: Probably not, unless it’s a huuuge mixer or NL only

3:35

99: Any faith is what Brent Honeywell is doing in AA?

3:35

Paul Sporer: Honeywell’s a beast, he’s just very unlikely to come up any time soon

3:35

Taco Oppo: Berrios… soon?

3:35

Honey Nut Berrios: How long before Berrios comes back up? And should we be excited for his return?

3:35

Paul Sporer: I’m still fully in. Holding him in NFBC Main

3:36

Carrot Cole: If you had to start 1 of the following for today only in your utility: Eric Thames @ CIN vs Feldman, Jose Rameriz @ Home vs DET (Daniel Norris), Odubel Herrera @ WAS vs Stras or Hunter Pence @ Home vs COL (Tim Anderson). Let’s just assume everything is standard.

3:36

Paul Sporer: Thames then Ramirez

3:36

Bob: Are you high on Moncada?

3:36

Paul Sporer: Long-term, sure, I see the upside. But this year, no

3:36

August Don: Dropped Shoemaker for Mike Leake. Major Goof, or ok?

3:36

Paul Sporer: Not a MAJOR goof, no, but Shoe’s upside is higher IMO

3:36

Paul Sporer: Leake very solid, high-floor guy, though

3:36

Timothy: Talk to me about Lonnie Chisenhall. Available in my AL-only league and I need a bat…

3:37

Paul Sporer: That’s exactly the kind of league where I can get a bit jazzed about rostering him. Yes, jazzed.

3:37

Paul Sporer:

3:37

Noah: How would you rank Rendon, Moose and Healy?

3:38

Paul Sporer: Just like that, but Moose and Healy are interchangeable

3:39

Don: Is Avi Garcia still the worst player in baseball or should I heighten my expectations because he’s been Babe Ruth for a week?

3:41

Paul Sporer: LOL Avi roasted. Still only 26, so could still jump a bit, but I don’t see a star turn coming — maybe a .275-20-70 upside

3:41

Alex: Cut bait on S.Kelley in Washington? I figure maybe better served picking up pitching depth elsewhere than holding out hope with him

3:42

Paul Sporer: Ya, I’m fine cutting

3:42

Wade Boss Hog: What do you think of going with four aces (most teams in my league start six) with three long relief kinda guys (Archie, Raisel, Phelps and Rosenthal)? Should I go more traditional or is this a viable approach with more managers softening to the idea of long guys?

3:43

Paul Sporer: If traditional hasn’t been working for you, mix it up. Keep an eye on your K counts. The rates of those fireman types will be good, but make sure you’re still getting the proper quantity. But I like trying it. Been working up a list of these new firemen types, too

3:44

Bland: Is this the perfect time to buy low on Greg Bird or is there real reason for concern?

3:48

Paul Sporer: He was wildly overrated by late draft season so a return to earth in perception would be a good time to buy if you were a believer before the surge or even during the surge, but unwilling to pay the toll anymore.

3:48

Paul Sporer: There is regret among many of those buyers so dangle a more reliable option like Mike Napoli or Mitch Moreland and see where it goes. I’m not saying those will necessarily get him for 1-for-1, but the add-on won’t be substantial if they are selling low so I’d be OK with a 2-for-1

3:48

Ken Tremendous: Are you excited for Sun Trust Park?

3:49

Paul Sporer: New parks are always fun. Been using it in The Show a bit

3:49

Terry: Cole is dealing today, wish he could pitch like this all of the time!

3:51

Paul Sporer: You and me both.

3:51

Noah: How would you rank Kuechel, Paxton and Tanaka?

3:53

Paul Sporer: In reverse order, but Keuchel ticking up a bit. Getting swings out of the zone again for now at least

3:54

LarryA: I listen to a lot of hip hop (urban) radio. How could Beyonce be the absolute greatest singer in the history of the world if the last song of hers with any radio play was like “put a ring on it” (2008)

3:54

Paul Sporer: Is radio play really a good measure anymore with Spotify/Apple Music, etc…?

3:54

BirdBirdBird: Why isn’t Bird the word? Yet?

3:55

Paul Sporer: Obv already answered, but I enjoyed the way this was asked

3:55

dave in slc: adalberto mejia or Jordan Montgomery to replace strahm? Or someone else Peacock, warren, Hector Santiago and Leclerc are available

3:55

Paul Sporer: Montgomery

3:55

K: Worried that Danny Duffy has turned back into a pumpkin? (I am)

3:57

Paul Sporer: No, I’ve moved him down a little, but I don’t think it’s over

3:58

Ceasar: Are we seeing the makings of a Jimmy Nelson breakout?

3:58

Paul Sporer: What’s different? Maybe a tick of velo, but still only 2 pitches and very little improvement in swinging strike rate to back the K%

3:59

Matt: Who’s more likely to get 400 PA in the majors this year, Conforto or Gallo?

3:59

Paul Sporer: Conforto

4:00

Dave: Do you think Finnegan will be more like his first start or his second start?

4:00

Paul Sporer: It’s likely going to be up and down, just hoping for more ups

4:00

Adam: LeMahieu and Lynn for Jon Gray and Gausman. Fair deal? Which side do ya prefer?

4:01

Paul Sporer: Fair yes. Probably prefer LeMahieu and Lynn if I have the 2B opening

4:01

toki: Machado and Gsellman > Bell and Adam Jones

4:01

Paul Sporer: Substantially

4:01

Quadrangular: So Ozuna is basically the up-and-coming Cespedes/Upton/Cargo, yea? maybe Mazara as well?

4:01

Paul Sporer: Yep, I love Ozuna

4:02

Bad Joke: How come AT&T Park is so cold? Cuz every seat has a Giant fan.

4:02

Paul Sporer: Oh my

4:02

Guest: What kind of production do you expect from Matt Carpenter if he stays in the 3-hole all season

4:03

Paul Sporer: I buy this power level

4:04

dave in slc: winker called up, what are your thoughts on what he can and will be?

4:07

Paul Sporer: The hit tool could play immediately, but he doesn’t have major power.

4:07

Ruffx2Tweet&Cameron: Would you eat the Grasshoppers @ Safeco?

4:08

Paul Sporer: No, thank you

4:08

Terry: Regarding the Orioles” Chris Davis at 1B, Mancini RF and Trumbo DH. The better question should be, who should be starting over any of them in those spots?

4:09

Paul Sporer: Seth Smith vR

4:09

Chin Music: How is this rotation: Strasburg, deGrom, Carrasco, Duffy, Nola?

4:09

Paul Sporer: Pretty strong

4:09

Joe Mets Fan: Gsellman just hit my league’s waiver wire. I was pretty high on him going into this year.

Would you drop Morton or Finnegan for Gsellman?

4:09

Paul Sporer: If you were high on him, get him over either. He’s in their range so it’s definitely a personal preference

4:14

Moltar: Should I be trying to sell high on Lamb? Will he avoid the mega-slump that befell him last year?

4:14

Paul Sporer: He suffered a hand injury that seemed to linger

4:14

Crew87: Should Haniger be owned in all obp leagues? Do you see upside of 20-20?

4:15

Paul Sporer: Ya I think so. Might be tight if you have a good offense in 10-team

4:15

Rick: JP Crawford off to a poor start and disappointing last year. Is he behind Rosario and Barreto as far as SS prospects go?

4:18

Paul Sporer: I’m reluctant to get too crazy just yet on poor start

4:19

Guest: Buy or Sell– James Paxton is a top 25 starter in 2017

4:21

Paul Sporer: I’m mostly buying it. I was pretty high on him. I only had him ranked 33 at peak but I buy the idea of what you’re getting at by asking

4:21

Jim Lahey: You do realize that Severino has focused on his Changeup (his best off-speed pitch as a prospect btw) all off season and has thrown it with confidence in his 2 starts to begin the year? “2-pitch pitcher” isn’t really that accurate

4:21

Daniel: Hi Paul. How can I be as handsome as Jeff Sullivan? Also is Gsellman pitching his way out of the rotation once Matz is back?

4:22

Paul Sporer: It’s not possible and it’ll be an ongoing battle between he and Wheeler until Matz returns. It was one bad start

4:22

Jay: Carlos Rodon: worth using my only DL spot?

4:22

Paul Sporer: Ya

4:22

Red Bird: Waino droppable in 12 teamers?

4:22

Paul Sporer: Ya

4:22

Yank: Headley flash back to 2012? Or just a mini-streak?

4:22

Paul Sporer: mini-streak

4:22

Lito: No Im not dropping him, but what do we make of Seung-Hwan Oh’s struggles so far? Worried yet?

4:23

Paul Sporer: A touch. Velo down, looking a little more hittable, Rosenthal looming. Would move him down a few spots if I were to update my RP rankings

4:23

Blazer: Can Martes turn out to be the best of the current young SP prospect bunch in the American League?

4:23

Paul Sporer: Sure, he could

4:23

Larry: how strong is the correlation between hours spent at a desk job and fantasy prowess

4:23

Paul Sporer: Gotta be strong

4:23

Justin: Is Chris Devenski worth adding to a 10-team dynasty points league (with holds)? Do you think he has a chance to become a starter in the future?

4:24

Paul Sporer: Hmm, it’s close with the holds, but probably not. I think this super-RP is the plan. Injuries could change that if the rotation was hit, but otherwise it’s this role for him

4:24

Finny: Start Finnegan vs MIL?

4:24

Paul Sporer: Ya

4:24

Edwin: Paxton or Greinke?

4:24

Paul Sporer: Greinke barely

4:24

Will: Can people shut up about Conforto, he has had one good game. Chill out

4:24

Paul Sporer: Ya I answered quite a few too, I’ll take some of the blame. He’s just a hot topic today

4:24

Brad: Any concerns injuries deter turner and segura from stealing as much?

4:25

Paul Sporer: Depends how they feel upon returning. If they’re healthy, they’re going. But playing doesn’t automatically mean healthy enough to run so it is someone concerning given the value in their legs

4:25

Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: VV or Pineda?

4:26

Paul Sporer: Not much difference, tbh. Take your preference

4:26

Josh: I’m in a 12 team QS, SV and k/9 league. Someone just dropped Bush. Drop Glasnow for him?

4:26

Paul Sporer: I’m OK with that, ya

4:26

Loren: Judge or Thames ROS?

4:26

Paul Sporer: Thames for me

4:26

Jason: Aaron Nola looks filthy today, 95mph heater and a absolutely ridiculous curveball

4:26

Edwin: Nola just made Harper whine like a baby

4:26

Paul Sporer: Gotta turn that sucker on, was watching PIT-CHC

4:27

Jack P: Kiermaier or Judge ROS? There’s allure to both…

4:27

Paul Sporer: KK

4:27

Paul Sporer: BRB, gotta take Charlotte out but we can keep going a bit

4:34

Cutch: Trade Jose Ramirez for Duffy? Have altuve at 2b and lamb at 3b. 12 team yahoo 5×5

4:34

Paul Sporer: Ya I’m good with that, like both players so a fair deal

4:34

c piece: Are you buying chris owings?

4:34

Paul Sporer: In deeper leagues, ya. Love him in NL Only

4:34

Jerry: I’m in trouble at SS. Is it time to give up on Tim Anderson for Freddy Galvis?

4:35

Paul Sporer: Is there really a difference? Keep the upside of Anderson.

4:35

Elf: Would Tanaka’s shaky start cause you to bench him tonight vs. STL? 10-team mixed.

4:35

Paul Sporer: No

4:35

John H: I just traded Bogaerts and Tanaka for Trea Turner and Ryon Healy. What do you think?

4:36

Paul Sporer: I can dig it, feels like a slight discount on Turner, but I’m a Healy backer for sure

4:36

Cold Sporer: Please rank Manaea, Cotton, McCarthy, Shoemaker, Cobb, Finnegan ROS. Thanks and really appreciate your chat.

4:36

Paul Sporer: Shoemaker, Manaea, Cotton, Cobb, Finnegan, McCarthy

4:36

Kyle: clevinger worthy of a pickup? Tomlin has looked terrible and his AAA numbers (K:BB) have been really good so far

4:37

Paul Sporer: In AL-Only, yes

4:37

Bellinger: How many AB do I get this year? Am I worth stashing in a standard h2h redraft?

4:37

Paul Sporer: 250, probably not

4:38

Boris: 12-team mixed, you starting Norris against the Indians tonight?

4:39

Paul Sporer: I’m more liberal earlier in the season, especially on arms I believe in, so I would

4:39

Chin Music: Trade Boegarts, Strasburg, K-Rod for Machado and Kenley?

4:39

Paul Sporer: Yes

4:39

Moltar: What do Mazara’s numbers look like when he comes back to earth? Better than Gomez?

4:40

Paul Sporer: .285-25

4:40

sam son: whats your feeling on Zack Granite? good speed. Does Minny have space for him

4:41

Paul Sporer: I debated not posting this because it felt like a troll name trying to convince me to comment on a fake player. That should tell you how much I know about him.

4:41

Andrew: Give Harvey for Carpenter in 12 team roto without thinking twice, right?

4:42

Paul Sporer: Ya I’m taking that

4:42

Gregg: Is Taillon a set-and-forget in 10-team or are you still spotting his starts?

4:42

Paul Sporer: I’m setting

4:42

Matt: What’s your early take on Jordan Montgomery? really liked what i saw (17 swinging strikes on 89 pitches!). i know its the rays, but still.

4:43

Paul Sporer: Stuff was nasty. Like the depth of arsenal, too. I’m buying.

4:43

Paul Sporer: ^^ 12+ teams for now

4:43

Zimmerman: How long do I keep this up? Chance I am 14 team relevant in standard leagues?

4:45

Paul Sporer: There’s at least a change for Ryan Zimmerman and he smacked the ball last year despite the poor results. It comes down to health, but I’m buying in a 14-teamer for sure

4:45

Bryce: Can I expect career high stats for Forsythe now that he’s in LA?

4:45

Paul Sporer: I can see it. Needs to stay healthy – he’s a 30-year old w/one season over 130 gms

4:46

Moltar: Is it just me, or do the mid-season pitching call ups seem weaker this season than in the past? Other than Urias, is there anybody in the upper minors who profiles as anything more than a fantasy #5?

4:46

Paul Sporer: Guys will emerge, but ya a lot of the minors pitching is younger

4:46

The Expanse: YOU DON’T NEED TO BE A SCI FI GUY TO LIKE ME – PLEASE DON’T LET ME BE CANCELLED!

4:46

Paul Sporer: I don’t get this

4:46

Guest: I started this chat around a half hour in, did a phone interview, walked my dog, and started dinner and you’re still going strong! You’re a machine! Too bad about the dui’s tho ?

4:46

Paul Sporer: I hate you lol

4:46

Boris: Will the K’s return for Triggs?

4:46

Paul Sporer: Probably not back to 23%

4:47

Basa: You seem cooler on an Aaron Judge breakout than most. You think .260/30 is all that unlikely?

4:48

Paul Sporer: I am and I do unless the K% change is real. I just don’t buy that it is yet. I think we’re seeing one of his hot streaks, not necessarily some drastic changes en route to a breakout. The power is unquestioned, but I don’t buy that his free-swinging ways are done

4:48

Big Tuna: What are your thoughts on Familia ROS?

4:48

Paul Sporer: He will be very good, IMO

4:48

bl27: do you like Jesse Winker ? Fantasy asset for 2017 ?

4:48

Paul Sporer: NL only

4:48

Moltar: Obviously this applies to their aural content only but Solange’s album was >>> than anything Beyonce has ever released.

4:50

Paul Sporer: I’ll have to listen. Saw Solange in 2009 at Fader Fort during SXSW waiting for a Kanye secret show that was no longer so secret. We camped there all day hoping it’d come through because it wasn’t fully confirmed until midday. Twitter wasn’t as prevalent back then or it’d have been confirmed much sooner and a lot more people probably would’ve camped there all day. Fuck, I’m old… I’m talking wistfully about pre-Twitter peak.

4:50

Knucklebear: Why do the Dodgers keep using Grant Dayton in losing games?

4:50

Paul Sporer: Probably to grind your gears

4:52

Paul Sporer: Honestly, though, I’m not sure. Probably a bit random, too

4:52

What do now?: Matz and Rodon nice DL stashed this year or should I move off of one of them?

4:53

Paul Sporer: Sit tight until you can’t (say if a better star player goes on the DL – let’s hope that doesn’t happen, though)

4:53

Bobby: Why doesn’t Joc steal bases like he did in the minors?

4:54

Paul Sporer: I really don’t know. I’ve been thinking he would, but maybe he’s just another Colby Rasmus. Rasmus stole 25 per 600 in the minors and did spike a 12 spot his 2nd year, but on a hideous 60% success rate.

4:55

Chris: 12 team mixed. Got offered Cole and Cutch for Lindor. Am I crazy for not wanting to do it? I’m buying Lindor’s breakout and have huge concerns about both Bucs.

4:55

Paul Sporer: Not crazy at all. It’s a good offer because it definitely catches the eye and makes you at least think, but it’s a pass for me

4:55

Donnie: Drop Musgrove for Joe Ross? How much faab?

4:55

Paul Sporer: Yes. 10-15% max

4:55

Quadrangular: lmao at the Home Improvement bit with Eno. I know you guys mostly keep it to strictly business, but I’m enjoying the rare and irrelevant culture drops

4:56

Paul Sporer:

4:57

Bryan: Do you prefer matt moore or duffy going forward?

4:57

Paul Sporer: Duffy

4:57

Flip: Anderson.Paak or Bj the Chicago kid

4:58

Paul Sporer: Only familiar with Paak, I’ll have to check BJ The Chicago Kid out. What are some songs I should check out?

4:58

Michelle: You on the Grav(y)eman train?

4:58

Paul Sporer: Nah, not really

4:58

toki: If and when Duda gets hurt who takes over? Do they call up Dom?

4:58

Paul Sporer: Maybe they put Bruce there to get Conforto in… or Conforto himself

4:59

Melvin: Nola’s touching 95 this season, and that big, nasty hook. Any chance he graduates to SP1 status?

5:01

Paul Sporer: He was having a great breakout before the elbow last year. Probably peaking as a #2

5:01

Jeries: Rank the three Garcias starting in the outfield tonight for the White Sox: L. Garcia, A. Garcia, and W. Garcia.

5:02

Paul Sporer: LOL, Avi, Leury, and Willy

5:02

Mike P: Sit Greinke vs Kershaw tonite??

5:02

Paul Sporer: No

5:04

Mutegambit: Bogaerts or Correa in Diamond Dynasty.

5:04

Paul Sporer: Correa, I can’t hit with Bogy

5:04

Gary: Picked up Devenski and dropped Folty. Any reason to think he gets in the rotation? It’s a QS league.

5:04

Paul Sporer: I think they really prefer him in this multi-inn RP role

5:04

Jack: As far as shortstop prospects go, would you drop JP Crawford for Rosario? Barreto? Thanks

5:04

Paul Sporer: Ya, I could switch him out for either.

5:05

marichal: Mike Leake has begun the year with two gems. Is this a new version, or will he end up the same old Leake?

5:07

Paul Sporer: Same old Leake starting off on a positive run. Had a 1.59 ERA in 5 starts May 10-31 last year. Had a two-start 13 IP, 21 K, 1.38 ERA in starts just before and after the All-Star break

5:09

What do now?: Justin Turner for Greinke a good trade? I need a 3B 16 team h2h 6×6 w/OPS

5:09

Paul Sporer: Yes, I love Turner

5:09

Poutine Pizza: I would be good right?

5:09

Paul Sporer: Eww

5:09

Anthony: I don’t think you were ever a big Buxton guy, but is he a good buy low, or hold in a 10-teamed?

5:10

Paul Sporer: Ehhh, hold if you bought, but I’m not buying low

5:10

David D: Holland going to have a decent year? Solid start

5:10

Paul Sporer: I don’t think so, Tim

5:11

Jeries: Is Nate Jones worth holding onto in a 12-team league? He has looked very bad and there are no signs of Robertson being traded.

5:12

Paul Sporer: Ya, you can move on in 12-teamer. They’ll likely hold Robertson until the deadline area

5:13

Will: Is Archie Bradley more likely to be a closer this year or be stretched into a starter again?f

5:13

Paul Sporer: The latter, I’d imagine

5:13

Dave: Do you think Ken Giles’s control will be a problem?

5:14

Paul Sporer: It could be, yes.

5:14

David D: I picked up the Ross brothers off waivers chances I end up with one good starter?

5:14

Paul Sporer: I like Joe

5:14

Daryll: If you had to live off of one kind of Eno sandwich for the rest of your days which one would it be? (cheetos?)

5:15

Paul Sporer: He had a pretty lit roast beef number the other day

5:15

Sam: Oh my god help me please Paul! I just got offered Thor for my next years 1st and 2nd round picks and the offer won’t last too long..do I pull the trigger? Championship or Hope?

5:15

Paul Sporer: CHAMPIONSHIP!

5:15

Donnie: Trade Mark Reynolds for C Rodon yeah?

5:15

Paul Sporer: Ya

5:15

Andrew: What’s your thought on Jason Vargas after the stong start this year?

5:15

Paul Sporer: Meh

5:15

daniel norris: do you believe in me?

5:15

Paul Sporer: I do

5:15

Brad: Home improvement was worst show ever 🙂

5:15

Paul Sporer: I don’t think so, Tim

5:15

Jeries: Is Andrew Toles worth owning in a 12-team league with 5 OF’s?

5:17

Paul Sporer: Ehhhh, I’m a big fan, but he’s only started 5 games

5:17

Moltar: Do people really spend their FAAB in %15 chunks for marginal players? I make a bunch of $1-$2 claims over the course of the season so my FAAB stretches all year.

5:18

Paul Sporer: I wouldn’t recommend 15% on marginal players

5:19

Moltar: Is Jason Hammel bad, or can he still be useful?

5:19

Paul Sporer: He can be in the right league format (AL Only, really)

5:19

Flip : Why isn’t Gattis getting more ABs esp when facing lefty

5:19

Paul Sporer: Not sure, but I think it’ll come

5:19

Adam: 10 teamer end of bench question: Keep Taijuan Walker or stash Urias?

5:19

Paul Sporer: I still believe in Taijuan

5:20

Mr Met: Hang onto Gsellman for a couple more starts? He is still getting Ks.

5:20

Paul Sporer: Yeah, you drafted him a couple weeks ago. It’s been one bad start

5:20

Schlossboro: Moving to Sarasota. More fun to follow the Rays as the local MLB team or the Orioles with their ST & Rookie League home just down the street?

5:23

Paul Sporer: Ohh, I might dig in on the minors being so close

5:23

Schlossboro: Love Sporer marathon chats. Keep up the great work, Paul. It is appreciated.

5:23

Paul Sporer: Thanks!

5:23

Deadly Dave: Any truth in the rumor that Jon Gray’s new nickname is “Samson”?

5:23

Paul Sporer: LOL

5:23

They got chicken in Philly?!: Trying to break the record for longest chat? HERO

5:23

Paul Sporer: What is the record? I feel like I’ve gone, like, 4 hours before

5:23

Moltar: Rank these multi-inning guys: Montgomery, Bradley, Lorenzen?

5:24

Paul Sporer: Montg, Lorenzen, Bradley

5:24

Jake the snake: worried about Arrieta drop in velo? so far results are good

5:24

Paul Sporer: Results are great, secondaries are sexy af, but I worry about him holding up all year.

5:24

Hank: Drop Bird for Morrison in a 14 tm redraft?

5:24

Paul Sporer: No, not me

5:29

Dude: When do the Doyers call up Urias?

5:29

Paul Sporer: Some time in May

5:29

They got chicken in Philly?!: What what in the Rupp?

5:29

Quadrangular: piggybacking off that Leake question- most likely to keep up the over-producing start: Leake, Vargas, Nelson, C. Anderson, big Erv, McCarthy, Peralta

5:30

Paul Sporer: Big Erv

5:30

Too Many 3Bs: Maikel Franco or Castellanos in a league with K’s and OPS

5:30

Paul Sporer: They’re same tier for me, so flip a coin. The Ks might push it to Franco.

5:30

Elvis: Any chance Thor unseats Kershaw as the SP1 this year?

5:30

Paul Sporer: It’s possible, yes.

5:31

Bill: Why did they pull Nola after only 5 IPs/90 pitches?

5:31

Paul Sporer: Maybe he was wearing down?

5:32

Paul Sporer: That’s just a guess. It is still early and he was shut down with the elbow last year

5:32

Brian: I get Trea, he gets Villar and inciarte. Win for me or destroying him?

5:32

Paul Sporer: I think it’s pretty fair. I’m not sure I wouldn’t take the Villar/Inciarite side myself

5:32

Addison: Can we get more vids of Charlotte and her boyfriend on Twitter?

5:33

Paul Sporer: Anytime I see Harper comin, I’ll get the camera going. They’re so funny together.

5:33

Brian: When do you worry/become overconfident in your place in the standings? May?

5:33

Paul Sporer: I stay woke all year, dog. :sunglasses emoji:

5:33

Flip : In non keeper leagues, shouldn’t we be spending faab aggressively at outset – not too likely impact talent comes into the pool later

5:34

Paul Sporer: Yes, especially at potentially game-changing talent

5:34

Paul Sporer: Like the probability isn’t high that Jordan Montgomery breaks out and just takes off, but there is a chance and so there are leagues where I’ll be aggressive at a chance to get 5+ months of a potential impact arm

5:34

Brian: Archie Bradley and Devinski both are SP eligible and will combine for 150 ip and 200 k. Just saying

5:36

Paul Sporer: Would love to see them commit to Bradley in this role for this year. Don’t have to rule out starting in the future, but this year keep it to 2-4 IP outings

5:36

Aaron: Thoughts on Vince Velasquez? Buy,sell or hold??

5:36

Paul Sporer: Hold

5:36

Addison: You still paying full retail for Trea Turner or do you want at least a bit of a discount?

5:36

Paul Sporer: I’m pushing for some discount or I’m not buying right now

5:36

Brian: Who will be more popular by the end of the year, Almora or Baez?

5:37

Paul Sporer: I’ve always had this hope that Almora would be so good defensively that he’d play all the time and kinda learn to hit at the MLB level, but he’s on the wrong team for that. They just don’t need to give him that kind of workload with their talent.

5:38

Max: True or false: any time you can make a 2-for-1 deal to end up with the best player you do it?

5:39

Paul Sporer: There are no absolutes in fantasy baseball, but ideally, yes. Especially in shallow leagues. You want to consolidate talent in 10- and 12-teamers

5:39

Danny: What’s the most you would spend on a single player in a 12-team league with a $270 draft budget?

5:39

Paul Sporer: into the $50s

5:39

Bbboston: Aaron Hicks:

5:39

Bbboston: Hes tweeted his swing and hit since the start of spring training.. could he be a post hype ^3 sleeper?

5:40

Paul Sporer: I’d love to see it. I’m a huge fan, but will the PT be there?

5:40

Moltar: Seriously, thank you for helping me through a v boring work afternoon. Only 30 minutes left!

5:40

Paul Sporer: No problem!

5:40

Steve French: Sano; what say you?

5:41

Paul Sporer: Insane power. Still not buying >.260, but I’ll take .245/35

5:42

Chin Music: I know it’s annoying to ask twice but I need advice! Would you give up Stras, Boegarts and KROD for Machado and Kenley?

5:42

Paul Sporer: I answered that, though

5:42

Paul Sporer: Y’all the queue is worse than MLB The Show’s, but I’m trying. Y’all are killin it with the volume of questions

5:43

Paul Sporer: #yall

5:43

Guest: Sell high on Ryan Zim? Target a slow starter like Villar?

5:43

Paul Sporer: If you can get that done, hell yes

5:43

Paul Sporer: But generally, I’m kinda into Ryan Zimmerman with a swing focus

5:43

133 Things: I’m not going to list them all, but they’re real. # 57 Believe in JA Happ

5:43

Brew Crew: why no love for Wily? just a 2 pitch guy? he had Tulo 0-2 twice in last start and GROOVED him a MEATBALL both times. is it lack of command? or just being a bonehead?

5:44

Paul Sporer: I don’t think he’s a bonehead. Pitching is REALLY hard. He is a two-pitch guy, but I do have a little love for him, just not on the list that was given early where he was included

5:44

Paul Sporer: He finished strong after getting healthy and looks good this year

5:44

Case: 4×4 AL only, Boyd or Jordan Montgomery ROS?

5:45

Paul Sporer: Hmm, both likely to be WHIP issues and Monty’s K advantage goes away. Boy, I just don’t see a ton of difference. I’d lean Boyd here with no Ks

5:45

Mr. Met: My Dyson for his Gsellman?

5:45

Paul Sporer: That’s fine

5:45

Hey, California USA!: Wacha flocka Thames

5:45

Happy-ing: What’s your favorite non-baseball thing?

5:46

Paul Sporer: Nevermind, Neris just maimed Zimmerman, gg

5:47

Paul Sporer: my dog, Charlotte. But you probably meant like entertainment and I’d say TV & movies. Baseball kinda rules my life, which is awesome

5:48

Paul Sporer: Tough group, like em all for what they offer so I think it comes down to needs. Peralta the best power source, Inciarte for the AVG and speed, Gomez for a mix.

5:48

Green Irish: Hey Paul. A J Reed or Daniel Vogelbach? Who is the better play on a call-up in 1st half and role?

5:48

Paul Sporer: Reed for me

5:49

Darren: If by chance Wade Davis goes down with injury, who gets the closer job for the Cubs? They seem to have a lot of options.

5:51

Paul Sporer: They do, as any good bullpen will. Love Carl’s Jr, but I think the guys who’ve done it would get the first look: Uehara and Rondon, and hell, even Strop. You’re right, they have a lot. Uehara probably cheapest and yet has every bit the shot the others do, so I’d focus on him with the spec bid

5:51

Paul Molitor: What kind of production do you expect from Park this season? Buying his hot spring?

5:52

Paul Sporer: 30 HR per 600 PA pace with a .240 AVG

5:52

Ken Tremendous: Totally appreciate the chat, but you don’t have something better to do on a Friday evening?

5:52

Paul Sporer: Baseball is about to start, so yes

5:52

Paul Sporer: But there is only one game on and I was watching it while doing this

5:53

Paul Sporer: “Thanks for being here, but aren’t you KIND of a loser for doing this?”

5:53

Anthony: Bellinger or Urias get the call first?

5:53

Paul Sporer: Urias barring injury opening a spot for Belly

5:53

Guest: Pollock a good ceiling comp for Haniger?

5:56

Paul Sporer: Not sure Haniger runs quite that much

5:56

Quadrangular: non-fantasy Q: you liking the ‘Stros in the AL West? Think they make a move midseason to bolster the rotation?

5:56

Paul Sporer: Yes, I do on both counts. They will add a big piece.

5:56

I got all numbers!: The world needs more wiffleball leagues. I’m gonna start one.

5:56

Paul Sporer: Is it in Austin?

5:56

Moltar: If I also have Wieters and desperately need pitching, should I try dangling GSanchez?

5:56

Paul Sporer: Yes, shop him, but don’t sell too low

5:57

anonymous: #1 waiver priority: burn it on Adrian Gonzalez or Ian Desmond (impatient owners in this 12-teamer!)

5:57

Paul Sporer: Ooh damn, I’d wait out Desi. Trade another few weeks for a much higher upside and more diverse profile

5:57

Nick: Thoughts on Tulo?

5:57

Paul Sporer: The last two years are a useful guide

5:58

Ken Tremendous: That’s exactly the sentiment! [But I am also a loser for being here too!]

5:58

Jon: Thoughts on amirs hot start? Real or fake?

5:59

Paul Sporer: Mostly fake, where’s the fastball? http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-sleeper-and-the-bust-episode-445-…

5:59

Anthony: You’re a stud for doing this! Fuck that guy…

5:59

Paul Sporer: Roasted

5:59

jimothy: How do you value Bundy in a dynasty? Sell because of injury risk?

5:59

Paul Sporer: No, all pitchers carry pretty substantial risk in a dynasty. Hold the big talent.

5:59

1 Catcher League: Have Contreras and Sanchez in a keep forever, who should I sell?

6:00

Paul Sporer: See if Sanchez is still bringing in big offers, but might need to be Contreras if you’re stuck selling low on Sanchez

6:03

Chin Music: Sorry I missed that. I appreciate the responses!

6:03

Paul Sporer: No problem, I didn’t know you missed it. You found it, right?

6:03

Jon: Devon travis is killing me, straight cut or hold. Deeper league

6:03

Paul Sporer: Hold for now

6:05

Quadrangular: biggest mover thus far (up or down)? Mazara, Khrush, Carlos “check out my porn” Martinez, Puig, Thames, Ozuna…

6:05

Quadrangular: that was just an excuse for the C Mart joke…..

6:05

Paul Sporer: I was already quite high on virtually all of that group, so I’m not surging them up the board too much. But it’s probably Martinez, even with the shitty second start

6:05

Ken Tremendous: Next time Anthony wants Parks and Rex or the Office, he can go suck one. I bet he likes Joe Morgan.

6:05

Paul Sporer: Bahahaha

6:06

Paul Sporer: Calling it Parks and Rex pretty much eliminates the illusion that it’s really Ken Tremendous, insofar as that illusion existed for anyone still

6:07

Jon: Btw thanks for the long chat, nothing better then watchin and talking baseball

6:07

Paul Sporer: No problem!

6:07

Paul Sporer: And let’s not gang up on KT, I don’t think he was being outwardly nasty… just thinks I’m a giant dumb loser asshole, no big deal!

6:07

Moltar: Re: trading GSanchez, one owner has lots of pitching and his C is Wellington, think I could target Carrasco or Archer?

6:07

Paul Sporer: Be ambitious. It’s certainly not so outlandish he should see it as offensive

6:08

Paul Sporer: One casualty of the chat was my DFS lineups. Had to scramble a bit, we’ll see how the zero research lineup goes tonight

6:08

Paul Sporer: Could’ve just not played, but what fun is that?!

6:08

David D: Will a staff of Yu, Cueto, Mccullers, Harvey, Salazar, Eickoff, J Ross carry a wk offense in a 14 tm Hth?

6:09

Paul Sporer: It certainly can. There’s plenty of risk in that lineup, but the upside is tremendous

6:09

Debbe Dunning: Where am I now?

6:09

Paul Sporer: Still babin’ around AFAIK

6:10

Anthony: Brandi Drury? He wor

6:10

Paul Sporer: Well, you tried

6:10

Anthony: Drury 10-team relevant? How about Graveman?

6:10

Paul Sporer: I think you can finagle it for Drury, no on Graveman

6:10

Moltar: Wowowowow you outlasted me and I don’t leave work until 7 eastern. We’re not worthy. Have a great weekend!

6:10

Paul Sporer: Haha, thanks! Have a good one

6:10

Anthony: I LOVE Joe Morgan!

6:10

dbet: Professional chat reader today. I can’t believe I get paid for this!

6:10

Paul Sporer: Hahaha

6:11

Ken Tremendous: Fuck me. I’m driving.

6:11

Paul Sporer: OMG, stop reading!!!

6:11

steverony: Greg Allen is my new irrational minor league crush – am I crazy, or possible great future fantasy player?

6:11

Paul Sporer: RIGHT there with you. I like Zimmer, too, but I always mention Allen when discussing Zimmer and the CLE OF

6:11

Mike P: any idea of the super 2 date this year, about?

6:11

Paul Sporer: Not sure, no

6:11

Brandon M: Should I drop John Gray for Graveman? Or are they about the same that the change would be negligible?

6:11

Paul Sporer: No

6:11

Paul Sporer: Gray’s upside still better

6:12

Paul Sporer: Did they DL Gray for the toe and I missed it?

6:12

Jon: Thoughts on justin upton? Its he following his brothers steps with a 230 25 hr season coming

6:12

Paul Sporer: He’ll be fine. I don’t think his cold streak will be so prolonged this year and he’ll still have a fire month-plus at some point

6:18

timmy-tony: Should there really be fantasy hype for Josh Bell? Is his power likely to develop past 20Hrs?

6:18

Paul Sporer: Nah, I don’t see all that much with major fantasy upside at 1B/CI. Solid bat, but not a huge fantasy asset

6:18

Quadrangular: so Daniel Murphy is somewhat insane, no? it feels like he turned “one weird trick” into “dominant offensive force” over one post-season/off-season

6:19

Paul Sporer: It started in August of 2015. It’s part of the swing change revolution. Think about where Josh Donaldson was. JD Martinez. Justin Turner.

6:19

Erik: Is Jon Gray droppable in a 12-team, given his home park, youth, and potential injury?

6:19

Paul Sporer: Why’d you draft him then? He had all of those before the season, too. I know the toe is a new potential injury, but all pitchers carry injury risk. The park and youth were there. If you’re ready to bail already, you probably shouldn’t have drafted him

6:21

fan: PAUL SPORER, WE WANT MORE-ER!

6:21

dude: how good will Brinson be this season?

6:21

Paul Sporer: Wide range of outcomes for an MLB debut, but the potential for it to be impactful is why we stash in deeper leaguers

6:21

Erik: C Seager for Strasburg. Which side do you take, and by how much? Standard 12-team non-keeper league.

6:22

Paul Sporer: Seager, barely. Prefer hitter in relatively equal 1-for-1s, both studs

6:22

dude: Thoughts on Trevor Cahill as an add in NL only?

6:22

Paul Sporer: OK, I think we’ve answered every fantasy baseball question possible if we’re entertaining Trevor Cahill pick ups

6:22

dude: Melvin Upton worth grabbing?

6:22

Paul Sporer: Oh shit, we found a new low

6:23

Brandon M: Yes, Gray is on the DL

6:24

Paul Sporer: Ah, crap on a crutch. OK, then I’ll tone down my admonishment of the Gray guy in the 12-teamer, but still cited 2 factors that existed in March

6:24

Keon Broxton: Will I be a star this year, so-so, or benched by mid-season?

6:24

Paul Sporer: So-so, but slump too hard and Brinson is taking your PT

6:24

Max: DAMMIT, TANAKA!

6:24

Paul Sporer: F, already?

6:25

Paul Sporer: Crap on a freakin crutch, Tanaka

6:25

scary jerry: would rather watch every single Padres game this year, or have to turn up to all social events in a dinosaur suit?

6:25

Paul Sporer: I’d do both. Cool life, I know

6:25

TimM: Just saw the Rockies lineup, is Tapia up?

6:25

Paul Sporer: I haven’t seen the lineup, but I’m guessing you saw a lineup that him in it… but then asked if he’s up………..

6:26

Paul Sporer: No, he’s Skyping his at-bats in from Triple-A and then they’ll just have a ghostrunner if he gets a hit

6:26

KCTom: Ugh, Tanaka getting hit hard already tonight. Time to bail?

6:26

Paul Sporer: You can’t bail in mixed leagues

6:26

LudeBurger: I don’t think you’re a loser, but I do think you’re insane for going this long. You’re awesome.

6:26

Paul Sporer: Thanks, Lude!

6:27

munenori kawasaki: Give up wainwright for brendan rodgers in a 12 team dynasty 10×10 that highly values quality starters more then inning eaters?

6:27

Paul Sporer: Ya, but Waino is so blah so I’d do it

6:27

Geremy: Have you played a lot of OOTP18 yet? Feel like a big upgrade on 17?

6:27

Paul Sporer: Not yet, diving in further soon – perhaps this weekend

6:28

Anthony: Gray already got dropped in my league. Better DL stash, Gray or Desclafani?

6:28

Paul Sporer: Gray

6:28

Anthony: Dammit, Wacha!

6:28

Paul Sporer: AW CRAP ON A MOTHERFREAKIN CRUTCH, GUYS

6:28

aaa: Been offered Quintana for Bundy in a deep keeper. Head says yes, heart says no. help!

6:28

Paul Sporer: Ya I think I still do that. Q is a damn fine pitcher

6:29

Paul Sporer: OK yall, I think we gotta cap it here, I’m hungry.

6:30

Anthony: Thanks, Sporer!

6:30

David D: TY Paul really enjoyed

6:30

Thanks: Great work Paul – you’re the best!

6:30

Quadrangular: thank you, Paul. good stuff, as always <3

6:31

Brett: Is this the end?

6:32

Paul Sporer: It is indeed! Thank yall so much for hanging out! love the “crap on a crutch” comment — HA! Just sayin….
