MASH Report (8/18/14)

The MASH Report is little low on content today and the same will be true for Thursday. I will release a full PAIN and HURT reports on Friday when I get some extra time (kids are finally back in school).

Gerrit Cole is expected to come off the DL on Wednesday.

Yonder Alonso is done for the season, he is droppable in all redraft leagues.

• So are the Brewers Jim Henderson (link) and Tyler Thornburg.

Joey Votto was placed on the 60-day DL, so the earliest he can possibly return to play is September 4th.

Your column has been a great help all year and thanks in part to you I’ve pretty much sown up a first round bye in my H2H OBP league playoffs. The 2nd and 3rd rounds are the weeks of 9/8 and 9/15. Which of these players (Molina, Votto, Zimmerman or Wacha) should I stash on the DL based on their projected performance vs the player they are replacing (listed below) during only those 2 weeks. I’ve also listed total games (in parens) and their schedules during the period in question:

Y. Molina – (13) 4@CIN, 3vCOL, 3vMIL, 3vCIN
VS
R. Martin – (13) 4@PHI, 3vCHC, 3vBOS, 3vMIL

Votto – (13) 4vSTL, 3@MIL, 3@CHC, 3@STL
OR
R. Zimmerman – (14) 3vATL, 4@NYM, 3@ATL, 4@MIA
VS
Bruce – (13) 4vSTL, 3@MIL, 3@CHC, 3@STL
OR
Carter – (13) 3@SEA, 3@LAA, 4vCLE, 3vSEA

Wacha – (13) 4@CIN, 3vCOL, 3vMIL, 3vCIN
VS
Colon – (13) 3vCOL, 4vWAS, 3vMIA, 3 @ATL

The biggest surprise of this article is…people still had Yonder Alonso on their roster in redraft league?

I fall for Alonso every year, although I’d long since dumped in this year. The injury prevents me from being tempted to draft him again, since he actually had been hot since returning from the DL. In admittedly a tiny sample, in 44 second half PAs he went .421/.477/.737 with 4 doubles a triple and 2 homers.

Thoughts on Kipnis?

Late with this one but what about Greinke? They say he’s pitched through elbow soreness last 3 weeks or so. Velocity was up last game and looks fine but his control was a bit off.
