MASH Report (3/28/13)

Not as many updates today as I expected. Quite a few players were officially moved to the D.L., but new injuries have been limited over the past few days.

Third base is just seeing a ton of injury issues. I went and looked at an early draft from ESPN. Six of the first eleven draft 3B have a chance of starting the season on the D.L.

Recent injury data

 • Bryce Harper is dealing with a thumb issue which seems to keep getting worse. If he tries to play through it, his production may be down a bit.

 • Jonny Venters will miss an unknown time off right now because of elbow issues. He had Tommy John surgery on the elbow previously and missed time last season because of it. I would assume he doesn’t pitch effectively at all this season and look for backup if he happens to be useful in your league format.

 • David Freese will miss a couple of weeks with his sore back. Again, I am not a fan of back injuries. They just seem to linger forever.

 • Justin Turner strained his calf yesterday and may be out a couple of weeks. More details should be coming out soon on the extent of the injury.

 • Logan Forsythe, Chase Headley’s replacement, will start the season on the DL also. He has plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Jedd Gyorko will get most of the time at 3B and Alexi Amarista will be the 2B for the Padres as the pair of 3B heal.

 • Wilson Betemit will be out 6 to 8 weeks with a tear in his right knee. He is one of many 3B options headed to the D.L.
