Lineup Analysis (6/24/22)

American League

Angels

Luis Rengifo (.214/.267/.333, 2 HR, 1 SB) is now batting anywhere from third to sixth.

Matt Duffy (.611 OPS, 0 HR, 0 SB) has started eight of nine games as the third baseman.

Astros

• With Jeremy Peña and Aledmys Díaz on the IL, Mauricio Dubón (.244/.314/.378, 1 HR) has been the shortstop.

Jose Siri (.564 OPS, 3 HR, 6 SB) and Chas McCormick (.684 OPS, 6 HR, 1 SB) are still splitting time in center field.

Athletics

• Very few regulars. It’s tough to get a read on the lineup but it doesn’t really matter since most of the hitters MLB caliber.

Jonah Bride (.258/.281/.290, 0 HR) has started nine straight and hit second over the last four games.

Tony Kemp still only plays against righties but does leadoff.

Blue Jays

Alejandro Kirk (.882 OPS, 8 HR) is now batting cleanup.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (1.027 OPS over the last two weeks) has started in just three of the last five games.

Guardians

Myles Straw (.552 OPS, 11 SB) is now batting ninth. Steven Kwan (.733 OPS) or Owen Miller (.713 OPS) have leadoff instead.

Oscar Gonzalez (.323/.358/.485, 2 HR) hits either fourth or fifth.

Mariners

J.P. Crawford (.766 OPS, 5 HR, 3 SB) is leading off against righties.

Taylor Trammell (.254/.354/.522, 3 HR, 1 SB) has moved up to hitting sixth.

Justin Upton (.385 OPS with Seattle) has started in six of seven games since joining the team, mainly at DH.

Orioles

Cedric Mullins (.718 OPS vs RHP, .621 OPS vs LHP) has sat twice in the last five games, both times against a lefty.

Tyler Nevin (.194/.308/.269, 2 HR) has started 14 straight games at third base.

Adley Rutschman (.222/.287/.394, 2 HR) has started 12 of 13 games as the catcher or DH.

Rangers

Willy Taveras (.250/.308/.292, 0 HR, 0, SB) has started in eight of nine games while batting ninth since being recalled to the majors.

• Since Josh Smith came off the IL, Ezequiel Duran (.271/.295/.458, 2 HR, 2 SB) and Smith have split time at third base.

Rays

• With the team getting hit with a ton of injuries (Franco, Lowe, Margot, Kiermaier), check to see who may have been in a platoon (e.g. Harold Ramirez) or in the minors (e.g. Josh Lowe) but is now a regular.

Isaac Paredes (.211/.273/.544, 9 HR) has started in seven of the last nine games.

Yandy Díaz (.263/.386/.341, 3 HR) has started in 13 of the last 14 games and is hitting in the top third of the lineup.

Red Sox

Jarren Duran (.297/.366/.486, 2 SB) has hit leadoff in seven of the last eight games.

Bobby Dalbec (.621 OPS) and Franchy Cordero (.681 OPS) are splitting time at first base.

Jackie Bradley Jr. (.206/.229/.206 over the past two weeks) has started in seven of the last eight games.

Royals

• Consistent.

Kyle Isbel (.540 OPS) sits against lefties.

Nicky Lopez (.217/.284/.256, 0 HR, 5 SB) has started in just six of the last 10 games while batting ninth.

• Since coming off the IL, Michael A. Taylor (.269/.348/.391, 4 HR, 1 SB) has started in 16 of 18 games

Tigers

Victor Reyes (vs RHP) and Willi Castro (vs LHP) are in a right-field platoon.

• Since coming off the IL (neck), Robbie Grossman has started 11 of 13 games while hitting .231/.311/.385 with 2 HR during that time.

Riley Greene (.899 OPS) has moved up from hitting sixth to second.

Jonathan Schoop (.198/.233/.324, 6 HR) is now batting eighth.

Eric Haase (.250/.283/.432 over the last month) has started at catcher in five of the last 10 games.

Twins

Max Kepler (.739 OPS, 7 HR) has started nine straight while hitting third or fourth against righties.

Alex Kirilloff (.501 OPS) is batting anywhere from fifth to seventh. Since Kiriloff’s promotion, Jose Miranda (.657 OPS, 4 HR) has only started in two of five games.

Byron Buxton (.882 OPS, 19 HR, 1 SB) will start whenever he feels healthy.

Gio Urshela (.261/.315/.404, 6 HR) has started 10 straight while batting fifth or sixth.

White Sox

• This lineup is all over the place with several injuries moving players around.

Josh Harrison (.333/.405/.424 over the last two weeks) has started six straight at second base.

Jake Burger (.261/.312/.478 with 8 HR) is back to playing third base every day with Yoán Moncada (hamstring) on the IL.

Yankees

• The same plan with one regular sitting every day.

National League

Braves

• Steady.

Orlando Arcia (.895 OPS, 3 HR) is up to hitting sixth.

Brewers

Rowdy Tellez (vs RHP) and Keston Hiura (vs LHP) are in a first base platoon.

Tyrone Taylor (.716 OPS over the last two weeks) has hit ninth in three of the last four games.

• Keep an eye on Jonathan Davis (.834 OPS, 3 HR, 11 SB in AAA) to see if his playing time improves (started in two of the last five games).

Cardinals

Brendan Donovan (.838 OPS) was batting second but might have moved down and gotten a day off because he’s hitting .154/.267/.192 over the past week.

Juan Yepez (.768 OPS, 6 HR) is back to playing every day with Tyler O’Neill (hamstring) on the IL.

Cubs

Jonathan Villar (.598 OPS, 2 HR, 6 SB) has started in 11 of the last 12 games.

Alfonso Rivas (.225/.320/.342, 3 HR, 2 SB) has started five of the last six at first base with Frank Schwindel on the IL (back).

Nico Hoerner (.280/.312/.392, 3 HR, 6 SB) has started 16 straight games.

Diamondbacks

Pavin Smith (vs RHP) and Jordan Luplow (vs LHP) are in a platoon.

Alek Thomas (.275/.338/.451, 6 HR, 4 SB) has started 14 straight games and hit second in four of the last five.

Dodgers

• Steady, except for the injury to Mookie Betts. The changes are that Will Smith starts every day as the catcher or DH. On the days he’s the catcher, Eddy Alvarez (.319 OPS, 20 PA) plays right field.

Giants

• It’s a little tough to know for sure what is going on with Brandon Crawford and Luis González hurt.

Evan Longoria has started in seven of the last 10 games and sits only against righties.

Brandon Belt (vs RHP) and Darin Ruf 러프 (vs LHP) are in a quasi first base platoon. I wonder if the team just wants to give Belt more days off.

Tommy La Stella (.712 OPS) only starts against righties as the DH.

Marlins

Jon Berti (.286/.383/.414, 2 HR, 21 SB) has hit first or second for six straight games. Jazz Chisholm Jr. (.860 OPS) is now batting second.

Nick Fortes (.294/.400/.529, 2 HR, 2 SB) has been the starting catcher in six of the last 12 games.

Mets

• It’s generally set, but a couple of injuries have the bottom spots in flux.

J.D. Davis fills the DH spot against lefties. The DH is used to rotate other players in or regular off the field against righties.

Nationals

Luis García (.329/.341/.463, 2 HR) is now hitting fifth or sixth.

Yadiel Hernandez (.707 OPS) and Victor Robles (.617 OPS) are splitting time between an outfield spot.

Padres

• Since being recalled, C.J. Abrams (.503 OPS) has started four straight while batting at the bottom of the lineup.

Ha-Seong Kim 김하성 (.231/.317/357, 4 HR, 4 SB) has been playing third base with Manny Machado out.

Trent Grisham (.615 OPS) has hit at the top of the order in three of the four games since Machado got hurt.

Phillies

• A set group except at the bottom.

Odúbel Herrera (vs RHP) and Matt Vierling (vs LHP) are in a centerfield platoon.

Bryson Stott (vs RHP) and Yairo Muñoz (vs LHP) are in a second base platoon. I could see the platoon dissolve and Munoz take over full-time.

Pirates

• There is a ton going on here. I hope I get some of it right.

Hoy Park (vs RHP) and Diego Castillo (vs LHP) are in a platoon.

Daniel Vogelbach (.252/.336/.496 vs RHP) is only facing righties.

Oneil Cruz (.500 OPS, 14 PA) has hit first, sixth, or seventh so far.

Michael Chavis (.255/.303/.429, 7 HR, 1 SB) and Jack Suwinski (.219/.294/.463, 11 HR, 2 SB) are hitting in the heart of the lineup and playing every day.

Reds

Mike Moustakas (vs RHP) and Donovan Solano (vs LHP) are in a third base platoon.

Aramis Garcia (.161/.198/.218 with 1 HR) has started seven of the last eight games at catcher.

• With Jonathan India (.234/.280/.312, 1 HR, 0 SB, 2 CS) back and leading off, Matt Reynolds (.684 OPS) is now on the bench.

Albert Almora Jr. (.286/.301/.471, 5 HR, 2 SB) has started nine straight games.

Rockies

• The order changes, but the same guys are consistently in the lineup.

Yonathan Daza has hit first or second for six straight games.

Not that it matters a whole lot… although Willy would probably have stolen a few bases already w/ similar line otherwise…
