LABR Mixed Draft Chat
6:58 |
: Hi everyone |
6:58 |
: Here is a link to the draft: |
6:59 |
: It looks like we have 15 minutes until the first pick |
7:00 |
: 5 x 5 roto with average |
7:00 |
: Curious how far Lindor will fall.. if early indications are true and his ADP is around 16 ish, that’s right in the Fangraphs wheelhouse.. do they bite? |
7:00 |
: I think they do but Paul has been tight lipped |
7:02 |
: I’d be surprised if Lindor gets past Paul and Jason, but I’ve been more optimistic about Lindor than what I’ve seen from most analysts. |
7:03 |
: Maybe they go mondesi and merrifield and corner the royals…😝😝 |
7:03 |
: Betting on the Royals offense and only lead to bad results. Might work at the 3-4 turn. |
7:04 |
: can you remind us of the scoring format for LABR? |
7:04 |
: Standard 5×5. |
7:05 |
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16V5bxoajDM-qc3jgGDKmFXa7uDSOAy… : Here are my 5×5 rankings: |
7:05 |
: Is this just a mock or the actual draft |
7:06 |
: Actual draft they’ll play out |
7:06 |
: Do you guys take the over or under on Max Scherzer going 8th? |
7:06 |
: Under seeing who is at the top. I’m betting he doesn’t get pack Erikson though |
7:07 |
: The first 6 usually are heavy on hitting |
7:07 |
: If you’re at the turn first round don’t you absolutely have to go with at least 1 SP? |
7:07 |
: Just one of the top 3 for me but I’m souring a bit on Sale |
7:08 |
: Thanks for hosting this chat! I was accepted into a TGFBI satellite league so I need all of the 15 team strategy prep i can get! |
7:08 |
: Given which hitters are likely off the board, I’d probably take 1 SP at the turn, but I’m with Jeff. Has to be one of the top 3. |
7:08 |
: no problem |
7:09 |
: Im souring on Sale as well because of what Clay Link in regards to IPs |
7:10 |
: I’m going to grab a drink and get ready for a long evening |
7:10 |
: Do you think Trea Turner will be the first Nat picked? |
7:11 |
: I would expect it to be Scherzer, but maybe with Lindor falling that changes. |
7:12 |
: It’s interesting. This is basically a main event NFBC format except I expect to see more punting of decoupled categories like saves and stolen bases. First, because those stats are increasingly rare and closer roles are increasingly chaotic. But because here they are just trying to win the league. Whereas winning the Main Event large jackpots rewards picking a generalist team that can compete in all categories. Discourages punting. So I’ll be looking for the speed and saves discounting here |
7:12 |
: It’s a normal league IMO. A few more paths to the top |
7:13 |
: Can we ask general fantasy questions too? |
7:13 |
: You can but I may not get answered. The focus is on the draft |
7:14 |
: Yup, draft is first priority, but I’ll try to get to general fantasy Qs if they’re posted. |
7:14 |
: 20 seconds to go… |
7:15 |
: @Jeff, those rankings you posted, are those the projections you’ve been using in all your analysis this offseason? |
7:15 |
: Yes. I’m not completely done with them but they are as up-to-date as I have them |
7:16 |
: Hypnotic pulsating zeros |
7:16 |
: 00:00 |
7:16 |
: Yes, quite soothing, really. |
7:17 |
: I’m guessing they are making sure everyone is ready to go and maybe taking a long hit in memory of Lawr |
7:17 |
: Trout it is |
7:17 |
: joe can’t find his copy of the blackbook? |
7:18 |
: 1:10 timer? |
7:18 |
: Whoa … Yelich |
7:18 |
: Why are you souring on sale? |
7:18 |
: IP projections might be on the high side |
7:18 |
: Yeah, I don’t like Yelich at 4 |
7:19 |
: And Scherzer in fact is the first Nat to go |
7:19 |
: Jeff is your rankings spreadsheet (thanks for that btw) missing Acuna/Soto and some other sophomores like Bader? Can’t seem to find them |
7:19 |
: crap, great |
7:20 |
: Al, the queue is yours, I fixing my sheet |
7:20 |
: 9th is a really tough spot now with Lindor hurt. I don’t envy Joe here. |
7:21 |
: Got it, Jeff. |
7:21 |
: I do agree with Lindor over Turner still. |
7:21 |
: I probably would have gone Sale instead of Lindor though. |
7:22 |
: that sure seemed like an autopick…took the entire time |
7:22 |
: I think it’s just a tough spot |
7:23 |
: Doesn’t Bregman have 3B/SS elig? That is a pretty big asset in a first round talent. |
7:23 |
: Yes, he does. I expect he’ll go soon. |
7:24 |
: Jason and Paul won’t even have a chance at a top 3 SP |
7:24 |
: No they won’t. Makes these picks pretty interesting. |
7:25 |
: Judge and Goldy to RotoGraphs. Surprised Kluber went that soon, but Stephania would be in a tough spot for SP by the time it got back to her. |
7:26 |
: Collette just tweeted that those picks were always the plan, unless DeGrom fell to them. |
7:26 |
: Pretty early on Bauer |
7:26 |
: I have to agree |
7:26 |
: Thoughts on Corbin this season? Any fear that the slider usage is unsustainable once the league has a chance to adjust? |
7:27 |
: I agree he’s due for some regression, but he’s still a top 20 SP for me. |
7:27 |
: Finally Bregman to Pianow. I love that value. |
7:28 |
: Al, thoughts on first rounders? who you like? dislike? |
7:29 |
: Back, just a little early on Yelich |
7:29 |
: The room must be a little concerned about Bregman’s recovery from late-offseason surgery |
7:29 |
: Not many surprises, and Lindor went about where I’d take him. I thought Baez and Altuve went a bit early. |
7:29 |
: and yes, Yelich was too early |
7:29 |
: Some, I gave him a 10% replacement level adjustment |
7:29 |
: Like Altuve, dislike Yelich price |
7:30 |
: I really like Harper at 2.12 |
7:30 |
: Maybe Tim will go Royal-Royal |
7:31 |
: Altuve was fine until he hurt his kneecap and played through it. I think he’s a fantastic value in the late first |
7:31 |
: Ian Kennedy? |
7:31 |
: His sprint speed dropped over 1 mph |
7:31 |
: I do still have Altuve as my top 2B. What about you, Jeff? |
7:32 |
: He’s getting there. I’d like to see him in ST |
7:32 |
: i’m surprised severino’s draft stock hasn’t really taken much of a hit after that awful 2nd half |
7:33 |
: Zach is punting steals for now |
7:33 |
: I get that, and yet when I did my rankings, I was comfortable putting Sevy 8th among SPs. Projection supported it. |
7:34 |
: I Bloom would have taken Harper, I would love his selections. |
7:34 |
: For now, I want to see when Mondesi goes |
7:34 |
: Snell went later than I’d thought, but I like where he went. |
7:35 |
: Bryant before Rizzo? Surpris d? |
7:36 |
: Yes, very. |
7:36 |
: Steve passes on pitching through 3 rounds. |
7:36 |
: yes. I love Rizzo. He was probably the 2H MVP once he got healthy |
7:36 |
: Whoa |
7:37 |
: I like Tailon but this seems early |
7:37 |
: Only Steve and Pianow are pitcherless |
7:37 |
: Sporer is pissed Taillon went! |
7:37 |
: love Rendon there. |
7:37 |
: No one having taken Lindor yet is nuts |
7:37 |
: He went to Sheehan in the 1st |
7:38 |
: Alan’s team projects for a .247 Avg so far |
7:38 |
: True |
7:38 |
: Pham? |
7:39 |
: My bad. Team RG still with no pitching! |
7:39 |
: I’m going to talk to my boys about that |
7:39 |
: Pham pick stinks of Collette |
7:40 |
: So Rudy pulled the trigger |
7:40 |
: Bellinger seems like a good value there, based on age and where he was going last season. |
7:41 |
: I think it’s a little early. I’d be fine with Hoskins or Aguilar. |
7:42 |
: I like Erikson’s team so far |
7:42 |
: nm on Hoskins…didn’t play 20 at 1B |
7:42 |
: But will be qualifed soon |
7:43 |
: true |
7:43 |
: Razzball has mondesi ranked as the 20th hitter and rudy got him at 32nd hitter… |
7:43 |
: That would be jumping Aguilar too much over ADP I think, Al. Pick 84 the last 20 days on NFBC |
7:43 |
: I like Rudy si |
7:43 |
: Right. I’d want to fill another need besides 1B and chance it that Aguilar will be there later. |
7:44 |
: Rudy is the true value drafter |
7:44 |
: rudy got him at 49. |
7:44 |
: hitter, not overall |
7:45 |
: Rudy sticks to his (tweaked Steamer) projections pretty firmly, with a little dash of draft flow strategy. Not surprising he appeals to Jeff |
7:45 |
: Hey … |
7:45 |
: Little early for Segura no? |
7:45 |
: J.T in the fourth |
7:46 |
: Was just going to type that. Pick isn’t far off ADP, but like with Bellinger, I’d be ok with getting a fallback. |
7:46 |
: talking about Segura btw |
7:47 |
: With Marte and Ramirez on board for Dr. Roto, I’d have gone Sanchez over JTR. |
7:47 |
: Confort-whoa! |
7:48 |
: Greinke & Price the only two pitchers left in Paul’s top 20. The guys gotta be hoping one of them falls |
7:48 |
: And now Price who is just not productive |
7:49 |
: I didn’t like Yelich at 4 for Jake, but he made up for it with Harper. He also likes Flaherty more than I do, but I can’t fault taking him there. |
7:50 |
: 8 teams went with 2 pitchers in the first 4 rounds seems like a lot |
7:50 |
: I answered a question I forgot to post…here it is |
7:50 |
: Al how do you rate your new coworker’s start? |
7:50 |
: Not IMO, the first 12 or so are so much better than the rest. I want as many of them as possible and then go hitting |
7:51 |
: The question now comes to closers |
7:51 |
: I bet one gets taken around the turn |
7:51 |
: Calling it now, FanGraphs gets 2 of Berrios/Price/Wheeler at this turn (unless Jason really twists Paul’s arm about Marquez) |
7:51 |
: Berrios is gone |
7:53 |
: Joe takes the full time, everytime |
7:53 |
: Something is messed up on their end |
7:54 |
: What’d you think of the Villar pick without an SP |
7:55 |
: Not a fan but to each their own |
7:55 |
: While it’s a little early for Villar, I don’t mind taking him instead of a SP. At this point, you’ve missed out on an ace, and there are some good SP2s who are undervalued and will be available. |
7:56 |
: Carpenter/Wong/Gyorko are sharing 2 IF spots. Don’t like that for playing time |
7:56 |
: So wheeler and… |
7:56 |
: Price |
7:56 |
: Always seems to work out for Carpenter |
7:57 |
: Thought Wheeler might go later. He was one of the SPs I thought Pianow could still get. |
7:58 |
: Stephania with Bellinger AND Aguilar! |
7:58 |
: Bellinger can play OF |
7:59 |
: Rudy going with safe and extreme |
7:59 |
: and in that context, I like her pick of Bellinger better now |
7:59 |
: Jeff and Al… real question.. is there really much difference between Villar and Mondesi? |
8:00 |
: No expect Mondesi has Ned Yost as a manager who doesn’t care about OBP and red lights. |
8:00 |
: Exactly |
8:00 |
: Called it (even with missing Berrios being off the board )Wheeler/Price |
8:01 |
: As commissioner I’m ruling Sheehan’s team Team Hospital Bed.. may the IR/DL be ever in his favor |
8:01 |
: So it is done |
8:02 |
: mondesi probably has more power, if statcast is any indication |
8:02 |
: Sheehan update: 3 hitters, 4 healthy calf muscles among them |
8:02 |
: This is true, but I think home park factors neutralizes that advantage somewhat. |
8:03 |
: Bloomfield is putting together a solid team. |
8:04 |
: I’m scared of MadBum like everyone is, but if I’m Pianow, I take the shot on him over Mikolas as my SP1. |
8:04 |
: Pianow did come back around and take a SP. I think I would have gone Folty over Mikolas for Ks. |
8:04 |
: Maybe not. Pianow may be going with a low WHIP team and stream for Ks and Wins |
8:04 |
: Think Pianowski cedes K’s entirely and goes with Hendricks/Freeland types after his Mikolas pick? Or tries to rally back into the SP pool with upsidey flyers? |
8:05 |
: Hendricks would be a great pick if he is going that route. |
8:05 |
: Morton |
8:05 |
: Greinke was one |
8:06 |
: Here comes the RP run |
8:06 |
: At this point, I think you’ve got to prioritize saves. Not many reliable closers left…only 10-12 total. |
8:06 |
: Leclerc going soon |
8:07 |
: Even he doesn’t seem that safe, since I could see TEX trading him midseason. |
8:07 |
: I like Sanchez there |
8:07 |
: Great value |
8:08 |
: Me too. Big gap between him and JT. Also like Ryan taking Cruz. He always gets a little too much of a discount. |
8:09 |
: Doolittle next closer to go? |
8:09 |
: I’d guess Vazquez. |
8:09 |
: it’s like everybody forgot about him |
8:09 |
: Sanchez and Conforto basically traded spots from ADP to pick slot in this draft |
8:09 |
: That gap between JT Realmuto and Gary Sanchez didn’t exist a week ago |
8:09 |
: agree jeff especially where JT went |
8:10 |
: My only issue with Vazquez is he might get traded |
8:11 |
: Doolittle/Turner at the turn? |
8:11 |
: Was wondering where doolittle was… like that pick considering the other closers already going |
8:11 |
: I love both of the RG picks. Cano has gone so late in every mock I’ve done so far. |
8:12 |
: Had a nice power rebound last year. |
8:12 |
: damn, Cano over Turner. Similar player type obviously |
8:12 |
: I’m not sold with RG. They need some speed at some point |
8:13 |
: Paul’s team is going to be really slow. |
8:13 |
: and there goes Mallex |
8:14 |
: My vlookup really wishes the industry would just pick one between “Nick” and “Nicholas” Castellanos |
8:15 |
: The Jr. with Vlad is kicking my butt |
8:15 |
: There is not Jr in his real name |
8:16 |
: I’m not a fan of Iglesias |
8:16 |
: He’s in a time share |
8:16 |
: Wade Davis always seems to fall, but he finished strong last year. I think he can be ok in COL. |
8:16 |
: Yes. I’d rather wait for Davis than take Iglesias. |
8:16 |
: what speed is left for them? Billy hamilton? Gamble on Garrett Hampson’s playing time? I bet they spring Amed Rosario if he falls to the 135/136 turn, and take Hampson and maybe Jorge Polanco later. |
8:17 |
: Peraza |
8:17 |
: Inciarte |
8:17 |
: so basically 20-25 SB players |
8:17 |
: I missed him |
8:18 |
: Dahl is about unplayable on the road and especially against lefties |
8:19 |
: Laureano |
8:19 |
: Good call, Adam. |
8:19 |
: DeShields |
8:20 |
: I don’t love Mullins, but he could steal 20+ with Buck gone |
8:20 |
: Bloomfield crushing it |
8:20 |
: Agree |
8:20 |
: 1/15th of every league will *never* own DeShields again |
8:21 |
: Greg Allen, Tim Anderson |
8:21 |
: yes and yes |
8:21 |
: Knebel is a decent closer still out there |
8:22 |
: There’s Leclerc. Still no Davis. |
8:22 |
: I don’t trust Counsell’s reliever usage, but at this point, someone should draft Knebel. |
8:23 |
: Gallo works perfectly for Dr. Roto with AVG and speed early |
8:23 |
: Was just thinking that. Guess it’s good he didn’t take Sanchez over JT! |
8:24 |
: Yates is good there. I was kind of sleeping on him. |
8:24 |
: Robertson is another option. Even with just 15 Saves, he’d provide great value |
8:24 |
: At one point do you stop with the lukewrm saves guys and go for the k and ratio guys? |
8:25 |
: Very soon. I think once Davis and Knebel are gone. |
8:26 |
: I like that little 3B run |
8:27 |
: Have a question. Play in a league with Saves and Holds as separate categories. Any recommendations on strategy? |
8:28 |
: Focus on talent and both should come. |
8:28 |
: starting pitching in this section of the draft is so ugly |
8:29 |
: Agree. I have a few target in here (Ray, Musgrove) but I’m passing or value shopping |
8:29 |
: You bet. I’ll be trying to get a good 1-2-3 and then just wait and wait for my sleepers. |
8:29 |
: I do like one of the LAD 20 GS guys (Hill, Ryu, Maeda) |
8:29 |
: I want to draft lots of Ryu. |
8:30 |
: There’s the Amed pick |
8:31 |
: No OF for RotoLady yet |
8:31 |
: I like early pitching but she may be taking it too far |
8:31 |
: And now she does |
8:31 |
: I like the Peralta pick. That’s about where he’s been going, but I think last season was legit for him. |
8:32 |
: With the stretched out schedule is anyone making conscious effort not to double tap teams. Paul has 3 mets in his offense |
8:33 |
: I need to take a break. Bedtime for kids |
8:33 |
: I’ve gotcha, Jeff |
8:34 |
: if the yankees don’t sign anyone else and luke voit gets in for 600 PA, how different is he from muncy really? |
8:34 |
: He’s not really. I actually have Voit ranked higher. I’m not taking Muncy’s PT for granted. |
8:35 |
: I have to wonder if Pianow would have taken Hendricks there. |
8:36 |
: voit 600PA? lets not push it |
8:36 |
: I do agree here, but I like him better than Muncy if he gets 500 PA. |
8:36 |
: and voit is probably going to go way later |
8:36 |
: and there’s that |
8:36 |
: Sheehan started off awfully heavy in IL guys, but I’m loving Grandal/Cutch back-to-back |
8:37 |
: and Haniger was a nice pick, too |
8:37 |
: nicepick by bloomfield thought he might go alvarado |
8:37 |
: I think it’s great value for Davis, and I’d take him over Alvarado. I’m waiting on saves at this point. |
8:38 |
: Alvarado is a nice sleep clsoer |
8:38 |
: I think Hicks is, too |
8:39 |
: He’s gotta be punting K’s. And wins. And… saves?? |
8:39 |
: Yahoo sports has no pitching… |
8:39 |
: Yahoo sports has no pitching! |
8:39 |
: Who gets most of the COL 2B PAs?
Hampson (80.3% | 53 votes)
McMahon (7.5% | 5 votes)
Rodgers (3.0% | 2 votes)
Other (9.0% | 6 votes)
Total Votes: 66
|
8:39 |
: I know the speed is depleted but hampson this early is a huge gamble |
8:40 |
: They are talking a platoon with him |
8:40 |
: Hoping it’s hampson, but I’m sure Reynolds will force Murphy to 2b knowing the Rox |
8:40 |
: Bridich will find a way to scorn another youngster, it’s his sworn duty |
8:41 |
: It’s his sworn job |
8:42 |
: Nice value with Hill |
8:43 |
: I like the value on the last 4 picks |
8:43 |
: not BHam |
8:43 |
: I’m not a Glasnow fan. Lot’s of talk of changes with the Rays but results stayed constant |
8:44 |
: Everyone avoiding Darvish like the plague |
8:44 |
: Not anymore |
8:44 |
: Of the 4, I liked Glasnow the least, but at this stage, I like him as an upside pick. |
8:45 |
: What your guys take on Nimmo this year. I acquired him in an OBP league….. |
8:45 |
: He’s fine depending on a teams’ needs |
8:45 |
: I’ve got him 54th among OFs for standard 5×5, but will probably have him quite a bit higher for OBP. |
8:46 |
: is it actually stephania drafting? if so that’s a big signal that she is comfortable with Darvish’s health |
8:46 |
: Stephania the injury guru likes Darvish… interesting. |
8:46 |
: That is some real value at the end of the 11th for Yu. |
8:47 |
: I like ERod there |
8:47 |
: And Laureano over Meadows, hm |
8:47 |
: I little high for Ohtani for me |
8:48 |
: I like Laureano, but it did feel a little early |
8:49 |
: You have Ohtani ranked 37th, Jeff! |
8:49 |
: Why do we not like Seranthony in this pack of RPs? What am I missing |
8:49 |
: I need to cut down on the PA and SB |
8:49 |
: That Robertson will probably get at least half the saves. |
8:50 |
: Cody Allen should get 30+ saves based on that contract alone, right? |
8:50 |
: I still think he could pitch his way out of the job. Buttrey is a pretty nice Plan B. |
8:50 |
: Rudy is crushing this draft |
8:51 |
: Jeffress or Hader more saves this year? |
8:52 |
: Hader |
8:52 |
: Agreed. I think he gets 7 or 8. |
8:52 |
: I think Knebel runs away with the job. He was lights out after demotion |
8:52 |
: Porcello = Price and six rounds apart |
8:53 |
: Another solid pick for Bloomfield |
8:55 |
: JOSH JAMES |
8:55 |
: Which Padres OF gets the fewest PAs?
Cordero (56.7% | 46 votes)
Margot (16.0% | 13 votes)
Renfroe (8.6% | 7 votes)
Reyes (18.5% | 15 votes)
Total Votes: 81
|
8:56 |
: i’m as much into james as everyone else but having him as your SP3 has to be a bit scary right? |
8:56 |
: A little |
8:56 |
: Thoughts on the renfroe pick? |
8:56 |
: Considering he may start the season in the minors |
8:56 |
: I like it, but my biggest concern is playing time. Hence the poll. |
8:56 |
: Agree |
8:57 |
: I like some full-time bats more, Dickerson or Kepler |
8:58 |
: Ass Dribble goes off the board |
8:59 |
: mchugh is an awesome pick there |
8:59 |
: I think he’ll provide a good enough return here, but it’s about the earliest I’ve seen him go. |
8:59 |
: Everyone forget Miggy? |
8:59 |
: Miggy who? |
9:00 |
: Yeah, he’s a good value pick now. |
9:00 |
: Why is everyone shying away from Eaton? |
9:00 |
: Platoon maybe? |
9:01 |
: My daughter’s taking over as I go find something. Good luck |
9:01 |
: yo yo yo was up |
9:02 |
: Hi yall!houghts of Bader against the last 3-4 rds of OF? |
9:03 |
: I don’t think he’s quite on the same level as the other OFs drafted. Not a bad SB option, though. |
9:03 |
: yo yo yo! |
9:03 |
: playing time issue for Bader… Ozuna/Fowler/Martinez, and at some point, O’Neill all battling |
9:04 |
: Yah i agree with you guys on that |
9:04 |
: Maybe, but I’m more worried about Fowler and Martinez stealing PT from each other. |
9:04 |
: Musgrove and Eaton at last |
9:04 |
: what does PT mean |
9:04 |
: playing time |
9:06 |
: Which Gurriel would you draft first?

9:07 |
: oh ok thanks dad didn’t know what PT means so thanks alot |
9:08 |
: you’re welcome |
9:08 |
: Really like Andrus this year. he was hitting the cover off before he got hurt. steals should bounce back, too |
9:08 |
: And he’s going late enough that there is so little risk |
9:08 |
: I’m back, sorry about that |
9:08 |
: Does Lourdes have a chance to be this year’s Marwin? |
9:09 |
: If he plays |
9:09 |
: Yes, good comp. FWIW I thought Camargo would be the next Marwin, but I think that window might have closed. |
9:10 |
: Roto lady with 2 risky picks |
9:11 |
: Freeland being seriously faded, no one a believer? |
9:11 |
: Miggy is off the board |
9:11 |
: He’s not a bad value at this point, but there are still at least a couple of SPs I like better. |
9:12 |
: where do you see the risk with Schwarber? |
9:12 |
: He can’t hit lefties |
9:12 |
: I love that Ryu pick |
9:13 |
: Rd 15. Spectacular for Ryu |
9:14 |
: Surprised Profar not taken yete? |
9:14 |
: 8th round |
9:15 |
: Is Minter another good value RP? |
9:16 |
: Maybe. I’m passing on closers here. I’d bottom feed off the scum |
9:16 |
: I like the skill set and am not that enamored of Vizcaino, but his chances at getting saves is too sketchy. |
9:16 |
: I’d just as soon keep waiting. |
9:16 |
: Nice Polanco pick |
9:17 |
: Who would you guys draft first this year… Betances, Britton, Ottavino? |
9:18 |
: Betances, best talent |
9:18 |
: Betances. I expect he’ll be higher in the pecking order if Chapman needs a fill-in, and he’ll probably have the best value in other categories. |
9:19 |
: Seems like an appropriate time to take fliers on Senzel and Luzardo. |
9:19 |
: No Grichuk yet. my fave post-200 straight power bat |
9:19 |
: Seems like he should go soon… |
9:20 |
: I really like the Voit pick |
9:21 |
: This is the dart throwing section. Gamble on upside |
9:21 |
: Skaggs |
9:21 |
: I really hope someone takes Daniel Palka. I think he is a sleeper candidate this year |
9:22 |
: Agree, he’s a cheaper Schwarber |
9:22 |
: Yes, Ketel! One of my favorite sleepers. |
9:23 |
: When do you think Didi goes? |
9:23 |
: His NFBC ADP is just inside 400, so it could be awhile. |
9:23 |
: I have him fairly high with replacement baked in. Value comes down to number of DL slots |
9:24 |
: are either of you guys believers in the use two high inning relievers (ie betances + peacock) to form a free ace in daily moves leagues? |
9:24 |
: I believe in it enough that I want to use it this year. |
9:26 |
: Nice 1B value in this round |
9:27 |
: I think this is the first time this year I’ve seen Strop go before Morrow. |
9:27 |
: He should |
9:27 |
: I’m pretty much avoiding the CHC closer situation. |
9:28 |
: I’d certainly be more likely to draft Strop. |
9:28 |
: I’ll take the Stroop Saves and hope he keeps the job |
9:28 |
: If not, too bad |
9:28 |
: Just making sure this is a redraft and not a keeper because Tim’s team would be amazing in keeper |
9:28 |
: Redraft |
9:29 |
: Catchers are getting thin |
9:29 |
: Think Tim might be a little too into the young guys for a redraft |
9:30 |
: He could have a full bench from guys already drafted |
9:30 |
: Narvaez is about the last catcher I’d be interested in drafting. Wouldn’t want to get much beyond him. |
9:31 |
: I’m big on getting 2 who do something |
9:31 |
: besides hit .220 with 12 home runs |
9:32 |
: Agreed. .220/12 isn’t going to cut it. |
9:32 |
: Better year? O’Hearn, Bour, Cron, White? |
9:32 |
: I’m all in with Bor |
9:32 |
: Bour |
9:33 |
: With O’Hearn, he’s Matt Adams, platoon bat. Was last season with Dozier |
9:33 |
: I’ve got Cron ranked highest, but I feel like I should revisit Bour. |
9:34 |
: Grichuk and Franmil…cheap power |
9:34 |
: I have Skaggs so much higher. |
9:34 |
: Feelings on Gregory Polanco holding down one of your bench spots early this year? |
9:35 |
: Tough one, now in leagues with DL slots, he’s a major target of mine |
9:35 |
: I want to see how Rudy handles C |
9:35 |
: He’s typically going late enough that I could see stashing him. Not much risk if I decide to drop him eventually. |
9:35 |
: Suprised Sonny Gray before Alex Wood? |
9:35 |
: nods |
9:36 |
: Gray over Wood sounds about right to me. Probably more innings, and I like the bounceback potential. |
9:37 |
: Jeff any concern once Ohtani is back the balancing act of Pujols, Ohtani and Bour? |
9:38 |
: Sure, but it’s a 18th round pick. I never get attached to a player taken this late |
9:39 |
: I love Kepler at this point. Huge improvements last year |
9:39 |
: It’s amazing he lasted this long. And since it’s the time to take fliers, I like the McNeil and Boyd picks. |
9:40 |
: Agree. |
9:40 |
: It’s the time of night my eyes start to get tired, so I thought Dr. Roto just took Macro Gonzales. |
9:41 |
: My boy Niko |
9:41 |
: A little early but I do like him this late along with Semien |
9:41 |
: Joe with Washington’s C |
9:42 |
: Would much rather have Niko in 18 than Profar in 8 |
9:42 |
: No way there is a 10 round difference between those two |
9:43 |
: I’m going to predict right now Andrea is getting Willie Adames |
9:44 |
: Poll results getting validated. Franchy will be the last of the Padres OF from the poll to get taken. |
9:44 |
: Souza is a nice pick |
9:44 |
: Kiermaier is a worth a shot at this point. Won’t get past Collette |
9:45 |
: I like that Collette call |
9:45 |
: Are there any late round (this range) infield-eligible players that might gain OF early? Ketel made me think of it |
9:45 |
: McNiel |
9:45 |
: I know he went 4 rounds ago, but Senzel |
9:46 |
: Here is a thread I had on such players: Who are the players who should gain extra position eligibility this season? Thanks I have so far: |
9:47 |
: Collette is going to kick Rudy’s ass |
9:47 |
: Just so frustrating with KK. Just stay on the field my man and he’s 20/20 |
9:48 |
: Was just thinking it was about Alfaro time. |
9:49 |
: This is the part of the draft I’ll study the most. |
9:50 |
: What might people see in some of these late picks |
9:50 |
: Looks like Rudy needs some lawn work done |
9:50 |
: He does live in Texas |
9:51 |
: Bour finally |
9:51 |
: and like Gibson this late |
9:51 |
: Would be interesting to see who pursues safety picks vs. those who go for upside. |
9:52 |
: I expect some closers coming off like Boxberger and Herrera |
9:52 |
: I was surprised Colome went before Herrera. |
9:54 |
: Feel like the FG team could have gone Adames over Tucker there. More playing time guaranteed and needing a MI. Dont know who else theyre going to go with at this point at MI with the same upside as Adames |
9:54 |
: Adames has 20 SB upside |
9:54 |
: do y’all agree with Burnes going before Woodruff? |
9:54 |
: It’s close, not sure with them |
9:55 |
: No, I’d rather have Woodruff. |
9:55 |
: They are always go before I have a chance to draft them |
9:55 |
: Adames has 20/20 upside to me |
9:56 |
: Suprised Lopez went before Rodon? |
9:57 |
: Lopez is typically getting drafted earlier than Rodon, but he shouldn’t be. |
9:57 |
: Brasier over barnes? |
9:58 |
: I have no idea. My hunch is that, as it stands, Barnes would have more value. I just wish BOS would just sign somebody so I don’t have to think about it. |
9:59 |
: I like both closers taken here |
10:00 |
: Huge steal there for Erikson |
10:01 |
: best team fit for Adam Jones at this point? |
10:01 |
: There isn’t one |
10:01 |
: CLE? |
10:01 |
: He’s just not good so probably a 4th OF |
10:01 |
: CLE does make sense |
10:02 |
: Just the third Marlin picked |
10:03 |
: I’m a little surprised |
10:03 |
: Anderson is still out there |
10:03 |
: Would think we could have a Trevor Richards and Caleb Smith sighting soon. |
10:04 |
: How much of O’Hearn’s crazy end of the year power was just fools gold? You guys like the pick? |
10:05 |
: He’s fine here. Just remember he has Matt Adams upside |
10:05 |
: What Jeff said. |
10:06 |
: Roto Lady could crush SB if everything falls right |
10:06 |
: Adames has really not been picked yet? |
10:06 |
: Went in round 21 |
10:07 |
: And aside from Baez, Roto Lady got SBs on the cheap. |
10:07 |
: As a fellow Buxton owner, also crossing my fingers ‘everything falls right’ |
10:07 |
: Astudillo got 7 SBs in AAA! |
10:08 |
: Willy finally gets picked |
10:09 |
: Surprised by the lack of Fulmer love |
10:10 |
: Schebler or Kemp? |
10:10 |
: So much health risk with him and not enough upside to compensate for it. |
10:10 |
: Kemp to start |
10:10 |
: Team Schebler here |
10:10 |
: Pillar is a nice pick at this point. full-time player in the 23rd round |
10:11 |
: But Wilmer is an even better pick here! |
10:11 |
: Finally a chance to play everyday |
10:12 |
: Agree. |
10:12 |
: Ryan has made a lot of really good picks. |
10:12 |
: love the value |
10:13 |
: These full time-outs are killing me |
10:14 |
: If you’re going to wait on catcher, Iannetta is not a bad C to pick up. |
10:15 |
: Stroman has fallen hard |
10:15 |
: What round did Buehler go? |
10:16 |
: 3rd round, 2nd pick |
10:16 |
: and this is why Jeff quit TGFBI and left slow drafts behind |
10:16 |
: but with 4 hour clocks |
10:17 |
: Breeze machine Tyler O’Neill |
10:17 |
: He can’t even hit fastballs. 25% SwStr% with them |
10:17 |
: Cahill is great, when pitching |
10:18 |
: Strahm is a guy I like a LOT this late |
10:18 |
: You and me both. |
10:18 |
: Local JUCO kid. Same JUCO as Bote |
10:19 |
: Very cool! And someone should take a flier on Bote about now. |
10:20 |
: I’m not a fan of the Parker pick, just no upside. Grab Pineda instead |
10:21 |
: I was just thinking I like it (though not as much as I’d like Pineda). I think he starts off as closer. |
10:21 |
: Delino or Willie Calhoun first? |
10:21 |
: Delino should go |
10:21 |
: Delino for me. Not sure what Calhoun will do, but I figure Delino will get his SBs. |
10:21 |
: Martin is a great pick there. Likely leading off |
10:22 |
: Including Pineda, there are 3 SPs who should definitely be drafted who haven’t gone yet. Will be interested to see if any go undrafted. |
10:23 |
: Keller for me |
10:23 |
: DeShields is off the board |
10:24 |
: Minor. There’s one of my 3. |
10:24 |
: Appropriate that Christin Stewart is taken in the twilight of this draft. |
10:25 |
: No Freddy Peralta ? |
10:25 |
: Wasn’t one of my 3 I was thinking of, but he needs to be drafted. |
10:26 |
: Samardjiza |
10:26 |
: Anibal. That’s 2. |
10:27 |
: Any hope for Samardzija this year? He says he’s healthy (naturally). |
10:27 |
: Worth a try late, but I wouldn’t want to take the risk earlier. Just two years removed from good peripherals. |
10:27 |
: Sure and if not, drop him and move on. He’s been a top-30 at points in his career |
10:29 |
: It’s the round of platoon only bats. Teoscar, Palka, Pederson |
10:29 |
: Palka drafted! |
10:29 |
: Ferguson have any value in LA? |
10:30 |
: I doubt it. Too much of a logjam. |
10:30 |
: aaaand Pineda. All 3 drafted. |
10:31 |
: he was just a top-40 pitcher just a couple years ago |
10:31 |
: Love that Hicks pick |
10:34 |
: Was Danny Jansen in the 13th about right? |
10:34 |
: Maybe a tad early. Can’t complain. |
10:34 |
: Should we expect a Giolito pick or no? |
10:35 |
: I’m expecting no, but I’ll have him on my late-round flier list. |
10:37 |
: Think a team makes a dart throw for Merrill Kelly? |
10:38 |
: I don’t think he’s must-draft, but would be a good gamble. I’d guess he’ll go undrafted. |
10:39 |
: Someone should with Kelly |
10:39 |
: I have his projection near Kikuchi |
10:39 |
: Kingery a target for you two? Post-hype rebound this year? |
10:40 |
: They heard you, Jeff. |
10:40 |
: No really |
10:40 |
: Wow |
10:40 |
: The Morales pick is slick |
10:41 |
: I’m not really in on Kingery. I was skeptical of his skills last year, and I’m not sure where he gets playing time. |
10:42 |
: Sheehan grabs Kingery |
10:42 |
: Back to back Peraltas. |
10:42 |
: Joe Ross before Tyson Ross. Hmm. |
10:43 |
: I like how both of their first names end in ‘y’ |
10:43 |
: Somebody draft Wandy Peralta now. |
10:43 |
: I liked the Morales pick, too, and also the Eflin pick. |
10:44 |
: Very proud that Team RG drafted Franchy. |
10:45 |
: Young guys: Willie Calhoun, Brandon Lowe, JP Crawford, Barreto worth drafting? |
10:46 |
: I’d probably only be targeting Lowe out of this group. |
10:46 |
: Did no one see Ryan Pressley last year? |
10:46 |
: Erikson with Keller |
10:46 |
: Nice. |
10:46 |
: Still time for Pressly to find a home! |
10:47 |
: What about a chance on Tulo, especially for Steve with Didi already secured? |
10:47 |
: Tulo would not be a priority for me, even this late. |
10:47 |
: Why not, just move on. |
10:48 |
: Calhoun run |
10:48 |
: Yep, I like both at this point |
10:49 |
: There you go, Fan of FanBall. Pressly to Tim McLeod. |
10:49 |
: Pressley and Trumbo are two nice picks for 28th round |
10:50 |
: I’d take a chance to see if C Davis can hit |
10:51 |
: Like Pressley this year. Also like Taylor Rogers as a late flyer in very deep leagues |
10:51 |
: And there goes Rogers. Would have been a shame if he went undrafted. |
10:52 |
: Suprised no Tim Beckham selection? |
10:52 |
: Well I’m done lol. |
10:52 |
: Yes, surprised re: Beckham. |
10:53 |
: You gotta love that he’s available so late. |
10:54 |
: And Mr. Irrevelent is? |
10:54 |
: And done with Todd Frazier. I’m out |
10:54 |
: Todd Frazier of Toms River, NJ |
10:55 |
: Thanks to everyone! |
