Justin Mason Baseball Chat – April 24th, 2018

Here is the transcript of my Tuesday chat!

9:00

Justin Mason: Hey everyone! Let’s have a fun chat. Be patient and I will try and answer every question I can. Do not repeat questions. If you wait, I will most likely get to it.

9:00

Kiermaier’s Dashing Good Looks: In a 7×7 10-team keeper league with Total Bases and OBP, would you roster any of Odubel, Dahl, Michael Taylor, or Franchy Cordero over Dexter Fowler? Thanks!

9:01

Justin Mason: I would probably roster most of them, if not all over Fowler.

9:01

Kiermaier’s Dashing Good Looks: What are your thoughts on Gausman potentially sacrificing velocity early on in games for additional sink/run. Last night against the Indians, he was consistently working down in the zone with good movement and was able to reach back for 95-97 when he needed it. Seems as though he’s really working on actually “pitching” instead of being the thrower that he was when he first came up. If last night’s start wasn’t a sign of encouragement, then I don’t know what is.

9:01

Justin Mason: Last night was very encouraging. Need to see him continue to do it on a regular basis, but I am a sucker for him.

9:01

Struttin’ Stratton: Trade Porcello for Thames?

9:02

Justin Mason: I wouldn’t right now. Feel like you might be able to get more

9:02

Baseball Yeti: Who is your top ranked SP rest of season and why is it Chris Stratton?

9:03

Justin Mason: Love me some Stratton, but he isn’t in my top 40. Still a good return on investment since he was going outside the top 400

9:03

Joser: Is Max Kepler in the middle of a breakout? 12% BB rate, 10% k-rate, increased his FB rate by 10 points and decreased his GB% by 6 points, hard-hit rate up 6 points, .964 OPS. He’s always had the raw tools…

9:04

Justin Mason: One of those guys that didn’t play baseball growing up so the tools haven’t translated as quickly. This could be the breakout, but the sample is too small right now.

9:04

vft: Do you see Travis Shaw having a repeat of last season?

9:04

Justin Mason: Yes, I am on board that train. Love the raw tools and considering the off the field issues last year, he should be able to focus more now.

9:04

Bartolo Semi-Colon: What caliber pitcher should I target in a trade for Michael Conforto?

9:05

Justin Mason: Like an SP2/3

9:05

Seager the Elder: are you bailing on me in anticipation of a down year? or will I turn it around?

9:05

Justin Mason: I think you’ll be as you always are. Steady not sexy.

9:05

10 Team OBP League: Pick one: Newcomb, Lynn, Odorizzi, Chatwood, TRoss, or Mikolas for ROS?

9:06

Justin Mason: (Holds breath) Mikolas

9:06

Rocky Sporer Picture Show: Are you buying Yangervis Solarte’s recent power with the move to Toronto and a slight increase in launch angle (I know, SSS)?

9:06

Justin Mason: I am a little, but only a little. Better park and division for power helps.

9:06

Baseball Yeti: What a time to live in where SD is such a fun baseball place. That said, do you lean Margot or Franchy Fries as a better fantasy asset moving forward?

9:06

Justin Mason: Margot and not close

9:06

Bartolo Semi-Colon: Do you buy the Tyson Ross renaissance?

9:07

Justin Mason: I do as long as he can stay healthy, which I don’t have a lot of faith in.

9:07

Gibby’s Waddle: Is it time we start taking Jarlin the Marlin for realz?

9:07

Justin Mason: No

9:07

Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor: Matt Chapman or Nicholas Castellanos for my 3rd in a 12 team H2H points league?

9:07

Justin Mason: Chapman.

9:07

NtflxnRichHill : You have any shares of Puig and are you holding? Exit velocity is okay, xwOBA is .322 compared to .240 wOBA. But the pop-ups are still there and he’s stopped pulling the ball (31.1% this year to 41.7% for his career). Trusting the projections the rest of the way would give him a very Puig-like .258/.334/.433 with 20 HR and 13 SB..

9:07

Justin Mason: I am holding. I believe in the talent and there aren’t glaring red flags.

9:08

James: In need of CI or SS in AL only league.  What kind of return is realistic for j Lowrie?  Tha

9:09

Justin Mason: Maybe try and buy low on Smoak.

9:09

CW: 10 tm keep forever- Been riding with J.Donaldson in my 3B spot, Should I cut an Aaron Sanchez for a Solarte? Or continue to hold tight and take the hits with a DL player starting.

9:09

Justin Mason: I’d hate to cut a guy like Sanchez, but you can’t keep taking a 0

9:09

snood: Sell Devers for Pham in 5×5 H2H? I could use an OF a little more than a 3B

9:10

Justin Mason: I am fine with that in a redraft or if you are in win-now mode in a keeper.

9:10

Mitchell: Just got offered Acuna for Hoskins in a dynasty league.  Thoughts on taking Hoskins out of the lineup now for Acuna’s potential soon?

9:10

Justin Mason: If you aren’t competing then do it. If you are then I wouldn’t

9:10

Cutch is Good: Early in the season, do you try to take advantage of early season ERAs being lower by starting more guys or do you play matchups more carefully?

9:11

Justin Mason: I play more carefully because I hate to put myself in a hole.

9:11

Jobe: Are you benching Luis Castillo until he turns it around?

9:11

Justin Mason: If you can afford to. I know I can’t in the only league I have him in.

9:11

Tooge2: Hi! I’m in a twelve team obp/qs league and am hoping to add some power. I have a few of pitchers off to hot starts: Pivetta, Reynaldo, and Junis. Which of these guys would you sell first? And for how much of a return?

9:12

Justin Mason: I would sell Junis first. Look for a top 150 player

9:12

Quadrangular: Puig, C. Santana, Votto: these are all nice solid buy low guys, right?

9:13

Justin Mason: Puig and Santana definitely are, but I don’t think any reasonable fantasy player is selling low on Votto.

9:13

J.W.: Hold Votto?

9:13

Justin Mason: OF COURSE!

9:13

Hans Gruber: Are you starting Maeda tonight against the Marlins? What are the chances he gets lit up or gives up a horde of singles?

9:13

Justin Mason: I am. He is my DFS play in Tout Daily. The matchup is too nice.

9:14

Kiermaier’s Dashing Good Looks: Re: Fowler follow up, do you have a preference of the names mentioned?

9:14

Justin Mason: Dahl is my #1. Then Herrera.

9:14

CW: Aaron Sanchez worth holding or cut him for streamers- like McCarthy against the Reds today? K/9 is killing my ratio.

9:14

Justin Mason: Depends on depth of league, but I would hold personally, but I also am a big fan of Sanchez.

9:14

Adam R: Gleyber Torres or Tim Anderson.  10 team roto.

9:14

Justin Mason: Anderson

9:14

Fred Pants: Castellanos or Andujar ROS?

9:15

Justin Mason: Castellanos

9:15

Jobe: Archer finally had a decent start. Should I look to trade him?

9:15

Justin Mason: No, I believe in Archer. He should be fine.

9:15

Matt Damon: MATT. DAMON.

9:15

Justin Mason: How do you like them apples?

9:15

Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor: In a 12 team H2H points league that counts win and loses (not to mention QS’s) am I crazy for dropping Luis Castillo for Eduardo Rodriguez?

9:16

Justin Mason: Yes, too early to bail

9:16

Adam R: Sean Manaea is a top X SP rest of season?

9:16

Justin Mason: 35

9:16

Jobe: What is Miguel Sano?

9:16

Justin Mason: A massive power source.

9:16

10 Team OBP League: Cut one: Bour, Alonso, Bell?

9:16

Justin Mason: Alonso

9:17

Cunados: Not sure if this is a fantasy talk, but in an NL only league, how valuable is Bautista, especially if he is 3b qualified?

9:17

Justin Mason: I think he is very valuable because on the depth of the league. 10-15% of your faab

9:17

Carl: How many games does it take to properly evaluate a pitcher’s trade value? I keep waiting for Jarlin Garcia to fall back to earth, but other than finally having an ERA over .099, it hasn’t happened yet.

9:18

Justin Mason: Got to give it a few more start. Strand rate, baby, xFIP all point to regression.

9:18

Dan: Any hope for Tim Beckham replicating last season?

9:18

Justin Mason: Sure, but it isn’t a good chance.

9:19

Johnny: Thoughts on Sal Romano?  Had his second great spring training in a row and last couple outings he’s cut down the BBs and increased the Ks…

9:19

Justin Mason: Eno helped me buy in a little. Worth a deep league gamble, but pick your starts in that park

9:19

Samoans are delicious: I keep hearing Manaea is a sell high candidate,  however if he has something like top 30 potential is it better to hold?

9:19

Justin Mason: I think you hold. The value is inflated and people don’t want to think they are buying high.

9:20

Gibby’s Waddle: I traded Maitan for Sixto… thoughts?

9:20

Justin Mason: Yes. Sixto is special and MAitan is so far away

9:20

Kiermaier’s Dashing Good Looks: Initial impressions on Buehler’s first start of the season?

9:20

Justin Mason: Super impressed with him. The control needs work on some of the off speed stuff, but he is young and I love the heat and mechanics.

9:21

Rob: I’m dead last in my 20 team keeper league.  I have McCullers in the final year of his contract.  I’ll be moving him for a prospect bat.  1)  How should I sell McCullers to my league mates?  2)  what kind of bat should I realistically shoot for?

9:22

Justin Mason: Show them gifs of his pitches. They speak for themselves. I would want a top 30 prospect back

9:23

Ted: Thoughts on Castellanos?

9:23

Justin Mason: I think he is about to have a power surge any second now. Hard contact is off the chart right now.

9:24

Dan: Is Daniel Robertson breaking out?

9:24

Justin Mason: I have a hard time believing it. The numbers are there, but I don’t know that the playing time will be.

9:24

Erik: I inherited a team in an 18-team dynasty league this offseason that looked like it should finish around 6th-9th. After a laundry list of early-season injuries, I’m currently 17th. I still think this team has talent, but those stats are already in the bank and I’m in a huge hole. At what point would you start selling in that situation?

9:25

Justin Mason: I like to wait until mid-may, but start the shopping process and see what is out there. Just make sure you get the best possible deals.

9:25

rpo: What caliber of SP would be fair return for Javy Baez after this hot start?

9:26

Justin Mason: top 25-30 SP

9:26

Jeff: Thoughts on Stroman and Jon Gray?  They’re killing me!

9:26

Justin Mason: Yeah, they have been brutal. I think they both turn it around, but if you’re in a shallow league it is ok to cut bait.

9:26

Ben: i have excess 1b and running addison russell.   Id like to cut ties.  Better offer for me: my Encarnacion and Russell for his Pollock and Moncada, or just Belt for Moncada

9:27

Justin Mason: Pollock and Moncada

9:27

Gibby’s Waddle: Odds that Sean Newcomb finishes the year as a top 30 arm?

9:27

Justin Mason: 5

9:27

Don Von Handburger: Any reason to keep Stroman on a mixed-league roto roster?

9:27

Justin Mason: depends on depth of league. 10 teasers you can cut. 12 teasers with a shallow bench probably can cut

9:27

Justin Mason: *teamers

9:27

Dub: 12 tm standard roto, pick one Betts, Harper, Stanton ROS

9:27

Justin Mason: Betts.

9:28

gyroball: Bought low on Puig and Orlando Arcia. Think they’ll rebound?

9:28

Justin Mason: Yes, they should rebound. I have a lot of shares of both.

9:28

Erik: A standard ESPN daily lineup league has just three bench spots. How would you ideally split those spots between hitters and pitchers?

9:28

Justin Mason: 2 pitchers, 1 hitter.

9:28

migdog: who you got ROS; Aaron Hicks or Mitch Haniger?

9:28

Justin Mason: Haniger

9:28

Hannah Hochevar: Starting Ohtani tonight in AL Only, right? Houston and blisters are scary, but…

9:28

Justin Mason: Yeah, in AL Only I think you do.

9:29

Phil: What do I do with Luis Castillo ROS in 11 team roto? Would you drop for Flaherty (another spot start only?) or EdRod? Or drop someone like Mazara or Beltre? Or just hold?

9:29

Justin Mason: I would hold for now.

9:29

Hotlanta: Santana – you give up yet? Thames, Reddick, and Taylor better short and long term options?

9:29

Justin Mason: I would hold.

9:29

Trick Daddy Warbucks: Justin! Thanks so much for the chat. Like everyone, I’m overthinking the first three weeks. But is it crazy to drop Aaron Sanchez for Nick Pivetta after what we’ve seen from each of them to this point?

9:30

Justin Mason: I really like Pivetta so I don’t think it is crazy. Also love Sanchez, so that is a tough call.

9:30

Don Von Handburger: I’m currently platooning DeJong and Addy Russell. Should I mix and match or just start DeJong every day?

9:30

Justin Mason: Just start deJong

9:30

2017 1B Breakouts: Which of last year’s 1B breakouts do you think is most likely to turn it back on among the Alonso, Morrison, Zimmerman, etc. group? Alonso has been showing signs of life this week.

9:30

Justin Mason: Zimmerman

9:30

Jake Junis Priest: Thoughts on Lourdes Gurriel? Will he steal Devon’s job?

9:31

Justin Mason: No, I don’t think he is much of anything. Even if he does, I don’t see a ton of upside.

9:31

Matt W: What should I expect for my two old 1B: Miggy Cabrera and Hanley Ramirez? Should I hold on (I can play them both at 1B and Util) and trust that they’ve returned to form or try to sell for some younger upside?

9:31

Justin Mason: I would hold unless someone gives you really nice value.

9:31

45BlowsBillygoats: Daniel Robertson is putting up sneaky good numbers.  Think he can work his way into that lineup on a full time basis?

9:31

Justin Mason: I don’t. This is nothing more than a hot streak.

9:31

Erik: I really want Franchy, but I’d have to cut bait with Ian Happ or Manuel Margot to get him. Would you consider either of those? I’m leaning no.

9:31

Justin Mason: no

9:31

CW: Per your Kepler answer- Drop A. Sanchez for him for my FOMO in a keep forever, 10 tm league?

9:32

Justin Mason: Sure.

9:32

Vegan Man!: Who would you drop to activate DDS in a 12 team h2h: Semien, Franco, or Villar? Or should I drop my catcher (Ramos), and try to make a 2-1 trade and pick Ramos, McCann, or Suzuki up as my C after the trade? Thank you!!

9:32

Justin Mason: In a one catcher league, I drop the catcher. In a two catcher league drop Franco.

9:32

Panik at the Disco: Will Altuve hit a home run this season?

9:32

Justin Mason: yes

9:33

Matt: Last week, in a dynasty league, I traded Cruz and $6 Merrifield for Cano and $5 Roark (and jump from late 4th to mid 2nd round in minors draft). Cruz/Cano contracts the same, and both will double to above-market prices after the season. I’m having second thoughts about this. It filled needs though – did I do terrible?

9:33

Justin Mason: Yeah, that was not good buddy.

9:33

Very taguchi: WHAT is up with Cueto?  Is any of it sustainable?

9:33

Justin Mason: Sure. We have seen it from him before.

9:34

RMR: I think you had indicated in a previous chat that you thought Kyle Tucker was going to be up pretty quickly.  Can you expound on this a bit?  Obviously Fisher and Marisnick have struggled, but how quickly would they really bump him up?

9:35

Justin Mason: Fisher is Major League ready and is a future star. The Astros want to repeat, so if they feel like he can help now, I think they will bring him up. I would guess he is up in the next month.

9:35

Matt W: Can Matz and Wheeler be trusted? ROS projections?

9:35

Justin Mason: They cannot. pick your matchups and hold your breath.

9:35

migdog: Haniger or Hicks ROS?

9:35

Justin Mason: STOP REPEATING QUESTIONS!!!

9:36

Kiermaier’s Dashing Good Looks: How good looking am I?

9:36

Justin Mason: I’d hit it.

9:36

John C: $21 Domingo was just dropped in my FGPTS league…worth a pickup?

9:36

Justin Mason: I am not a FGPTS guy. Sorry.

9:36

High 5 Ghost: I have Severino,Thor & C Mart heading my staff…trade Godley for Cody Allen to shore up my bullpen?

9:36

Justin Mason: sure

9:36

EG: E-Rod is a top ___ pitcher ROS if healthy (BIG IF)

9:37

Justin Mason: 50

9:37

Ted: Dangit, sent the message about Castellanos when I wanted to insert a paragraph break.  Wanted to add:  batted ball profile, plate discipline all look close to career norms.  But HR/FB is pathetic, despite in increase in hard contact.  Want to believe he starts hitting home runs.  Any thoughts?

9:37

Justin Mason: The power is coming.

9:37

Josh: Are you buying Eduardo Escobar keeping his power gains from last year?  FB rate and FB Pull% both look good right now.

9:38

Justin Mason: Yeah, I buy it. Don’t know that the average will be good and he will likely lose playing time mid season, but this is legit,

9:38

TJ: Oy, Gregory Polanco!  Batting below the Mendoza line now…he’s legit, right?  Turn it around?

9:38

Justin Mason: He can. I wonder if the injury he sustained recently is lingering.

9:38

Mario mendoza : NL questions for you. Which pitcher stash do you like best: Gohara, Musgrove or Nelson? Which 2 of these roster-squeezed OFs are most droppable: Domingo (most extensive,) Altherr, Nimmo, Franchy, Robles

9:39

Justin Mason: Nelson is the stash for me. Drop Robles and Altherr

9:39

Jeremy: Cut or keep; Gattis, Domingo, Kinsler, Sonny, Darvish?

9:39

Justin Mason: Keep them all if I can. Need more context.

9:40

CW: Margot dropped on a 10tm keep forever league, scoop him up? Would drop A. Sanchez or R. Lopez for him.

9:40

Justin Mason: I would scoop. can drop either. I prefer Sanchez

9:40

Ronald Acuña McDonaldson: Gleyber or Cesar ROS? 7×6 with XBH and OBP

9:40

Justin Mason: Cesar

9:42

HappyFunBall: Good sir, please rank my LFs, that I have too damn many of: Bellinger (+1B), Brantley, Conforto(+CF), Gallo (+1B,3B), Jose Martinez (+1B).  It’s an OBP/SLG dynasty league. Which one should I trade for Patrick Corbin?

9:42

Justin Mason: Bell, Conforto, GalloMartinez, Brantley. I wouldn’t trade Bellinger or Conforto for Corbin. Gallo probably wouldn’t either.

9:42

High 5 Ghost: Albies or LeMaieu ROS ?

9:42

Justin Mason: Albies. but that is close

9:42

Miguel Sano: Do you attribute my early season struggles to all the scheduling issues the cold weather has brought on?

9:42

Justin Mason: It definitely could have an impact. He also can be prone to these struggles.

9:42

Tim: Why isn’t HanRam getting any love?  Guy looks like the Hanley of yore…I’ve got him @ UTIL over the likes of Carlos Santana and Ryan Zimmerman…dumb?

9:43

Justin Mason: because he is old and injury prone. I love him and am riding the streak.

9:43

Very taguchi: Please rank ROS j mont, Stroman,c anderson

9:43

Justin Mason: Anderson, Stroman, Mont

9:43

45BlowsBillygoats: Has Matt Carpenter finally jumped the shark?

9:43

Justin Mason: I don’t think so.

9:43

EG: Started the year with Rendon/Lamb at 3B/CI. Picked up Villanueva…Who gets benched when all 3 are healthy?

9:43

Justin Mason: Villa

9:44

Bill: Yoan Moncada is near the top of the Exit Velocity lists. Do you think that’s sustainable for him?

9:44

Justin Mason: Yes I do. I am super impressed with him.

9:44

pH: In a limited moves league with no bench and 250 hitters rostered, are any of these worth rostering?  Mac Williamson, Brandon Nimmo, Joc Pederson, Brad Miller, Ben Gamel

9:44

Justin Mason: Gamel is.

9:45

Erik: One thing I’d love to see more of in fantasy analysis in general is general strategy tips. It’s probably more fun to talk about specific players, but every once in a while it would be cool to read up on how your approach to the game changes in different league settings. Do you have a favorite little-known tip in that area? Some way that value changes in certain circumstances that people don’t usually account for?

9:46

Justin Mason: Go read my tout review. I am all about game play. Don’t worry about convention. Look for things to exploit.

9:46

Cutch is Good: Kingery projection .260/15/20? Too high?

9:46

Justin Mason: No, it looks fine to me.

9:46

Mike Francesa : Im in a 12 team TB league. Where would u rank ROS between Piscotty, Franchy or eduardo nunez?

9:46

Justin Mason: Nunez, Piscotty, Franchy

9:46

Larry Biggersby: Heard you guys trash talking Devon Travis’s pathetic numbers the other day. (Great work, btw, on the pod.) Have him for free in AL Keeper but feel like it’s getting time to cut bait. Thoughts?

9:46

Justin Mason: If you have other options, then sure. AL only can be rough.

9:47

Kyle: I traded Votto for Greinke, Conforto, and Moncada in a 12 tm 7×7 with OPS and TB keep forever. What say you?

9:47

Justin Mason: Love that.

9:47

Me: Please Rank RoS: Skaggs, J Zimmerman, Cahill, Matz, Lucchesi,  Stratton thanks!

9:47

Justin Mason: Skaggs, Stratton, Lucchesi, Matz, Zimmerman, Cahill

9:48

NtflxnRichHill : Who’s the one guy (or 2 or 3) that your gut told you to draft that you still hesitated on and missed this year?

9:49

Justin Mason: Manaea and Jose Martinez

9:49

Estuve : Do you know where the ESPN projections come from? They have Luiz Gohara projected for 12.9 K/9.

9:49

Justin Mason: No idea who does them. Love me some Gohara though, but 12.9 is rich

9:49

migdog in the fog: Trade talks: Jose Martinez for Haniger in OPS league ?

9:49

Justin Mason: That’s fair, but I believe in both.

9:49

Gus: 10 team shallow redraft league, very tempted to drop Sano for Matt Chapman. Thoughts?

9:50

Justin Mason: Man, that’s tough. Probably not but its really close.

9:50

chewbacca: I am losing confidence in Castillo going forward. The dude just seems raw, kinda of reminds me of Severino before he actually started pitching well

9:50

Justin Mason: Give it a bit more time.

9:50

Mlip: David Peralta breaking out, or an April mirage?

9:50

Justin Mason: Both. It will come down to earth a little, but he is a good player and now healthy.

9:51

Cutch is Good: Any worries over Cespedes (BABIP downside today) or E5?

9:51

Justin Mason: nope

9:51

Steve : THoughts on pivetta ROS?

9:51

Justin Mason: Really impressed with the stuff. Park will hurt at times, but I am buying.

9:51

Kyle: Mallex Smith, Franchy Cordero, or Michael A Taylor?

9:51

Justin Mason: Taylor

9:51

Junis coming: worth holding onto Junis in a very-deep 10-team points league, or is he going to start performing closer to that FIP?

9:51

Justin Mason: I think regression is coming.

9:52

Justin Mason: I am not going to get to a lot of questions. Still going to answer more here, but hit me up on twitter or facebook if I don’t get to yours.

9:52

Justin Mason: @justinmasonFWFB on twitter

9:53

Nolan: 9-team roto league: Trade my Blackmon and Sano for his Trout? Sano is on my bench because of K’s. Or is that too much to give up?

9:53

Justin Mason: yes

9:53

Not Paul Sporer: Hey Justin, I’m in the first year of a keep for 5 years league with a limited number of keepers (6). In general, do you have a particular keeper strategy that you follow?

9:54

Justin Mason: I always play to win now. Especially when you have few keepers. No one remembers who had the best keepers. We remember champions.

9:54

Jeremy: Would you cut Kinsler for Caesar?

9:54

Justin Mason: sure

9:54

Joey Gallo: Does my hitting profile interest you so far this year? I’m hitting the opposite way 13% more and my contact is up 10%

9:54

Justin Mason: Yes it does.

9:54

HappyFunBall: So Skaggs … keeps on producing. Do we believe in him yet?

9:54

Justin Mason: I have always believed. Health is the issue.

9:54

Me: Colin Moran or Joey Bats RoS?

9:54

Justin Mason: Moran

9:54

Larry Biggersby: AJ Cole is bad, even as a Yankee, right?

9:54

Justin Mason: yeah

9:54

Vegan Man!: Any of these struggling starters going to turn it around: Castillo, Stroman, Gray? Thanks!

9:55

Justin Mason: I think they all will

9:55

GOBUY!! : KEVIN GAUSMAN, NOW!

9:55

Justin Mason: YESSSSS

9:55

Jeremy: Pick a mediocre PIT pitcher: Nova, Williams, Kuhl, Brault?

9:55

Justin Mason: Williams

9:55

Erik: Luis Castillo was just dropped in my 12-team league. He’s a must add despite his early struggles, right? I’d have to drop Joey Lucchesi or Chad Green, probably.

9:55

Justin Mason: drop green

9:55

Marvin: what do we do with castillo at this point? any reason to be worried?

9:55

Justin Mason: got to hold.

9:55

Kyle: Should I try and sell high on Hanley or Jose Martinez?

9:56

Justin Mason: In a deep league I could sell Hanley, but I don’t know what you could reasonably get. I believe in both but health is an issue in deeper formats.

9:56

Chucky : Are we out on Castillo? Hasn’t done anything in 2018 to warrant even a slot in that awful Cincy rotation, yet alone a 12 teamer. We’re obviously living in 2017 and that impressive 80+ IP, but the velocity drop essentially has rendered him useless.

9:56

Justin Mason: I am holding for a few more weeks.

9:56

Torch: What is it about Stratton that has you believing so much? And is he a smart stream against LAD?

9:57

Justin Mason: I think he is. He can paint the black and isn’t afraid to go after guys. The K rate won’t be huge, but as long as posey is catching him and he has the improved defense being him, he should be usable.

9:57

Zock Jr.: What do I do with Cespedes? His approach seems to have totally gone out the window. K’s way up, BB’s way down. Babip barely depressed, and he’s hitting .190. Should I try to find someone who believes in a bounceback?

9:57

Justin Mason: I am not selling low yet.

9:57

Ethan Hunt: Ian Happ or Franchy RoS?

9:57

Justin Mason: Happ

9:57

Sharp: I have never done fantasy baseball, where/how should I start?

9:58

Justin Mason: Find 11 friends and start a league.

9:58

Larry Biggersby: I keep reading about Kimbrel’s declining velo. AL Only, would you spec on any of Kelly, Barnes, Carson, etc, or just ignore? Thanks!

9:58

Justin Mason: Barnes is who I would roster.

9:58

Matt: Better side of this trade? Schwarber/Swanson or Ozuna/Arcia?

9:58

Justin Mason: Ozuna side.

9:58

Jimbo: Semien or G. Torres at SS in a 12 team H2H Category Redraft league (with short benches)?

9:58

Justin Mason: Semien

9:59

Zip-a-dee-doo-da: Please Rank: Albies, Swanson, Schoop & Bogaerts (all 2B/SS) in a 10-team h2h pts league. Considering moving one for an OF

9:59

Justin Mason: Albies, Bog, Schoop, Swnason

9:59

Vegan Man!: 14 team dynasty points league and I’m in win now mode. Have Altuve, Correa and Seager as my MIF group. Worth shopping Tatis for a legit SP to help win now? Or is his upside too great? Thanks!

9:59

Justin Mason: Always try and win now.

10:00

Rick Simon : What is your ideal roster construction? I have way too many hitters but don’t want to drop any and my pitching is solid. But watching guys put up numbers on the bench is killing me..

10:00

Justin Mason: I love balance, so trade your surplus unless you have a bunch of injury risk guys.

10:00

Allan: Hi Justin
Could you please rank adam eaton/ manny margot/ the dentist ROS? thanks!!!

10:01

Justin Mason: Margot, DDS, Eaton

10:01

Justin Mason: actually, put DDS in front.

10:01

Sean: Will Lucchesi be a viable SP4/5 all year or do you expect blow-ups once the book on him is written. Arizona handled him last start, but he did ok 2x vs Rockies including @Coors.

10:02

Justin Mason: I am starting to believe, but I still am going to pick in chose my starts with him. I think he is an SP5

10:02

Bob: How many players are there that you’d trade a super super cheap Bellinger for 1-for-1 in a dynasty?

10:02

Justin Mason: 50.

10:02

Justin Mason: ?

10:02

JC: Should I be worried about Conforto’s shoulder? Returned way earlier than expected, is swinging the bat less, Hard% and Exit Velo both down. Give him time or  try to sell high-ish while I can?

10:02

Justin Mason: I would hold.

10:02

Kyle: Drop Castillo for Velasquez or Minor, or hold on a little longer?

10:02

Justin Mason: no

10:03

vft: Is Corbin a buy high?

10:03

Justin Mason: I don’t think I would pay the price I have been hearing him go for.

10:03

Austin: Looking to trade Hosmer for an outfielder, should I wait until he starts getting into a groove?

10:03

Justin Mason: I am fine with selling.

10:03

Eckstein Hustle: Are you buying into the Andujar hype? Is he a better re-draft asset than Torres?

10:03

Justin Mason: I think he is. I am not a Torres guy.

10:03

Struttin’ Stratton: Have to cut one SP : Luchessi, R. Lopez, Chiniros, Duffy, Sonny Gray?

10:04

Justin Mason: Chirniros.

10:04

Erik: Stratton has a 4.22 FIP and a 20% strikeout rate. That’s fine, but so, so bland. What am I missing? Do you think he’s a FIP-beater? Do you think he has another level he’s yet to unlock? Or do you think a safe, low 4s ERA and a below-average but not awful strikeout rate are better than people think?

10:05

Justin Mason: I do think he is a FIP beater, but he doesn’t have a high ceiling. One of those guys that doesn’t help you win a league, but isn’t going to hurt either. 3.5-4 ERA and enough Ks with the volume.

10:05

Walks are not Kuhl: Do we need to be worried about Altuve’s power or is this an early season statistical aberration?

10:05

Justin Mason: I am not worried yet.

10:05

migdog in the fog: is haniger for real?

10:05

Justin Mason: yes

10:05

Chris: Would you pick Leonys Martin over Hamilton in a league with BA and OPS?  I don’t know what to do with Hamilton

10:06

Justin Mason: no

10:06

Evan: How do you like Tyler Austin? His numbers would suggest he’s been lucky and should regress, but will he stay fantasy relevant even at his baseline?

10:06

Justin Mason: nope

10:06

Walks are not Kuhl: Is Stratton nearing must own territory?

10:06

Justin Mason: not must own, but he is streamable whenever he is at home and/or Posey is catching him. The framing that Posey does is vital to Stratton’s success.

10:07

45BlowsBillygoats: Alex Cobb has really looked poopy and was dropped in a 16 team h2h.  Worth an add?

10:07

Justin Mason: no

10:07

Dever Fever: Any thoughts on vlad jr in a keep 3 standard league? Too soon to act?

10:07

Justin Mason: no, grab him.

10:07

Captain One eye: Stratton greatest pitcher ever. Seriously how much longer the Giants going to keep trotting  Austin Jackson out in CF. Alen Hanson is killing the ball at AAA.

10:07

Justin Mason: They don’t have a lot of guys with options. They would need to DFA someone and I don’t see it happening yet.n

10:07

Buster and the Sleep: any singular player you are actively trying to trade for/acquire across many leagues? And any player who are looking to move across many leagues

10:09

Justin Mason: Chapman

10:09

Reggie: Who would you rather have ROS: Reynaldo or Gohara?

10:09

Justin Mason: Gohara

10:09

Marc: 12 team QS league: With the Coors issue and general inconsistency, worth it to hold Marquez and play his matchups or use that spot to stream SPs?

10:10

Justin Mason: Probably not

10:10

Callen: Who do you like better ROS: Walker Buehler or Jack Flaherty?

10:10

Justin Mason: Flaherty. Has the clearer path to a long term role.

10:10

Austin: Sell high on Haniger?

10:10

Justin Mason: Nope

10:10

Hotlanta: Senzel or Franchy?  5×5 12 team head to head

10:10

Justin Mason: Senzel

10:10

Slamboni: Brandon Drury on a rehab assignment tomorrow. When he comes back, is Gleyber back to AAA or is Neil Walker released?

10:11

Justin Mason: I think Gleybar stays up. Walker could get released.

10:11

Stay Stassi San Diego: Is Logan Morrison a hold?

10:11

Justin Mason: no

10:11

Vegan Man!: Over/under .275/15hr/25sb for Villar this year?

10:11

Justin Mason: under on all except SBs.

10:12

Ben: is moncada going to finish as a top 2-5 2b?

10:12

Justin Mason: No, but I love what he is doing. He could in an OBP format though.

10:13

Justin Mason: Ok, I got to head to bed guys, but feel free to hit me up on twitter @justinmasonfwfb or on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008744507752&ref=bookmarks

Thanks for answering my question!

Is that dumb, to thank him in the comments? Internet etiquette eludes me.
