Jeff: Thinking of picking up a SP, either Kennedy or Triggs – would have to drop either Buxton or McMahon.  Your thoughts?  Who would you pick up/drop?

Jeff Zimmerman: Trade Buxton. Some owner still believes. Maybe Kennedy for McMahon if you really need pitching.

MikeHoncho: DeShields hit the waiver wire…how high a bid in a 14-team mixed league roto? 5 man bench.

Jeff Zimmerman: Depending on how much an owner needs Saves, 20%

Jeff Zimmerman: BTW, I’m an early, high FAAB bidder, especially in 15-team or deeper leagues. If I want someone, I’ll spend at least 10% on them. Not many players are difference makers, so I bid to get them.

Jeff Zimmerman: I may be high on FAAB recommendations.

RedLegs: J. Peraza better upside than Lowrie or N. Walker in a 14 team mixed roto??

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree but I’d not be surprised if the other two out earn Peraza

matt: Time to give up on Kevin Kiermaier to try and snag a potential breakout like Panik? He’s my 5th OF in a 14-team league, and his “new approach” is yielding a 40% K rate. Can’t steal if you don’t get on base…

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d stick with KK but he may need to ride the pine. I remember I thought the same about Hosmer’s start last year but he ended up being a top-20 hitter.

BringBacktheBrown: Tyson Ross higher upside than Newcomb, Rye, Pivetta? Or more than MRs like Betances, Devenski, or Hader? (12 team roto 5×5 mixer).

Jeff Zimmerman: Tyson Ross looks done. Not sure who Rye is but I’d own the rest over him.

Tommy: Faab % you’d spend on Lucchesi in a 15 team Mixed?

Jeff Zimmerman: Took 2% and 7% in the two leagues I posted. Maybe 5%

Franklin Barreto: What do you think we see from him during this stint? Worth a pickup in any size league?

Jeff Zimmerman: Tough call with him. I considered him but passed this week. He might be worth an add if there is room on a team’s bench

Jake Junis Priest: Was curious about Adam Engel and a break out, but that seems wrong now. Would you wait on him at all? Obv. a deep league. (Naquin, D. Robinson, Pearce, Rajai types on the wire.) Thanks!

Jeff Zimmerman: He could still breakout. Of the guys you listed, I think Naquin has the most talent

Gregg: I have to imagine Cinci leaves Senzel in minors Right? They aren’t trying to win now and don’t want to mess with his service time.

Jeff Zimmerman: The will at least hold him down until the Super Two date has passed

Jeff Zimmerman: Moran, Vill. hasn’t done enough yet to change my mind.

John Gibbons: Thoughts on Yoan Moncada? 20/20 season?

Jeff Zimmerman: I think it’s in him but the AVG/OBP is going to be low. I’m a little worried he won’t get on-base enough for 20 steals

Rick: Obviously early, but Harvey seems healthy. What to you expect from him going forward?

Jeff Zimmerman: May maxing out around Dylan Bundy.

Mike: Thoughts on Yelich’s oblique injury? What does it mean as in future production?

Jeff Zimmerman: He needs to get it healed right and not rush back. I’d be happy if it’s more than a 10-day layoff

Grant: Your colleague brad johnson has an interesting pitcher based strategy. Basically, target pitching early in drafts if your league focuses on bats. Thoughts on this?

Jeff Zimmerman: In a draft, I try to just find value and treat it like an auction. Going with this approach, I aim for a $$$ mix between hitting and pitching. Sometimes the pitching comes early. Sometimes later

SD Lifer: E-Rod or T. Ross ROS?? 5×5 14-team mixer.

Jeff Zimmerman: E-Rod

Jimbo: In weekly leagues, do you start Ohtani the pitcher or Ohtani the batter?

Jeff Zimmerman: Pitcher by a long ways

Jeff Zimmerman: It really depends on who you replacing in the OF. Look at the trade like Seager & Your OF for Stanton & Marte

FDR: Was it you that made me avoid Ohtani in all my drafts or did someone else write about his first ST start? Come on!

Jeff Zimmerman: I did not like what I saw early on. He was inconsistent. He quickly pulled it together. Oops

John Gibbons: Will Austin Barnes ever get the playing time he deserves?

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s dealing with an injury so more rest for now.

RMR: I purposely waited on catcher (one C league) knowing that I would probably just drop the guy I ended up with at some point for a FA was producing better.  I didn’t plan to do so this early, but Wilson Ramos has been terrible.  How early to I pull the plug for a Lucroy, Brian McCann or Russ Martin (OBP league)?

Jeff Zimmerman: Russ Martin. Set and ignore. Maybe not much power but nice OBP. You can drop later for a power if other needs come up.

Rickon: Quintana’s velo was up a mile today from his last start. Promising enough to continue top 20 consideration?

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes

Jake Junis Priest: AL-Only league with starts limit. Want to target TB middle men to vulture wins with the starters only going 3 or 4, but Cash keeps switching the orders around. Is this a dumb move for me?

Jeff Zimmerman: You just have to pick a guy and go with it. It’s so tough to target Wins, especially from MR. Just play the best value for ERA, WHIP, and Ks and hope the Wins come.

DJ: Would you drop either Eduardo Rodriguez or gohara for Nick Pivetta? Are you playing schebler in a weekly league or benching?

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe on Gohara to if I need a starter.

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d probably bench Schebler. He might give you nothing.

Jake: Jeff, in a 12 team save + hold league, do I hold onto Chad Green? Have 3 closers already and nobody else seems droppable. He seems valuable like Devenski last year but that Yankees bullpen is stacked so I’m a little more skeptical he gets saves or holds? Or should I just keep him and drop Strickland

Jeff Zimmerman: Drop him over Strickland. You might be able to pick him up later if the need arises.

Nickel Package: After one week of baseball: breakout pitcher and breakout hitter?

Jeff Zimmerman: Ohtani and it’s way too early to make a call on any hitter.

Chris: I’m looking for a SP with RP eligibility.  Who should I pickup between Cody Reed, Liriano, Domingo German or Sal Romano?

Jeff Zimmerman: Reed, two-start week if you are brave.

Andrew Triggskaidekaphobia: In a 12 team keeper, how do you see the stash value of Robles v. Gleyber? Does Robles just have too many roadblocks to an early call up?

Jeff Zimmerman: Robles was my #1 prospect target. Being an OF, he just needs one of three to go on the DL to get time,

Jeff Zimmerman: I love this strategy for off days. Get enough to fill open slots and then begin working on the rest of your team
