7:32

Jeff Zimmerman: $1000 FAAB budget so owners may need to drop 1/5 of their FAAB to get Middleton

7:33

Steve: Barnes or Albers?

7:33

Steve: Barnes or Albers? (% of FAAB?)

7:33

Jeff Zimmerman: Barnes and about 10%, 5% on Albers

7:33

Jeff: Thinking of picking up a SP, either Kennedy or Triggs – would have to drop either Buxton or McMahon.  Your thoughts?  Who would you pick up/drop?

7:34

Jeff Zimmerman: Trade Buxton. Some owner still believes. Maybe Kennedy for McMahon if you really need pitching.

7:34

MikeHoncho: DeShields hit the waiver wire…how high a bid in a 14-team mixed league roto? 5 man bench.

7:35

Jeff Zimmerman: Depending on how much an owner needs Saves, 20%

7:37

Jeff Zimmerman: BTW, I’m an early, high FAAB bidder, especially in 15-team or deeper leagues. If I want someone, I’ll spend at least 10% on them. Not many players are difference makers, so I bid to get them.

7:37

Jeff Zimmerman: I may be high on FAAB recommendations.

7:37

RedLegs: J. Peraza better upside than Lowrie or N. Walker in a 14 team mixed roto??

7:38

Jeff Zimmerman: Agree but I’d not be surprised if the other two out earn Peraza

7:38

matt: Time to give up on Kevin Kiermaier to try and snag a potential breakout like Panik? He’s my 5th OF in a 14-team league, and his “new approach” is yielding a 40% K rate. Can’t steal if you don’t get on base…

7:39

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d stick with KK but he may need to ride the pine. I remember I thought the same about Hosmer’s start last year but he ended up being a top-20 hitter.

7:40

BringBacktheBrown: Tyson Ross higher upside than Newcomb, Rye, Pivetta? Or more than MRs like Betances, Devenski, or Hader? (12 team roto 5×5 mixer).

7:40

Jeff Zimmerman: Tyson Ross looks done. Not sure who Rye is but I’d own the rest over him.

7:41

Tommy: Faab % you’d spend on Lucchesi in a 15 team Mixed?

7:42

Jeff Zimmerman: Took 2% and 7% in the two leagues I posted. Maybe 5%

7:42

Franklin Barreto: What do you think we see from him during this stint? Worth a pickup in any size league?

7:43

Jeff Zimmerman: Tough call with him. I considered him but passed this week. He might be worth an add if there is room on a team’s bench

7:43

Jake Junis Priest: Was curious about Adam Engel and a break out, but that seems wrong now. Would you wait on him at all? Obv. a deep league. (Naquin, D. Robinson, Pearce, Rajai types on the wire.) Thanks!

7:44

Jeff Zimmerman: He could still breakout. Of the guys you listed, I think Naquin has the most talent

7:44

Gregg: I have to imagine Cinci leaves Senzel in minors Right? They aren’t trying to win now and don’t want to mess with his service time.

7:45

Jeff Zimmerman: The will at least hold him down until the Super Two date has passed

7:45

Bobby G: Hey Jeff thanks again for doing these chats…which 3B do you prefer, Villanueva or Moran?

7:46

Jeff Zimmerman: Moran, Vill. hasn’t done enough yet to change my mind.

7:46

John Gibbons: Thoughts on Yoan Moncada? 20/20 season?

7:47

Jeff Zimmerman: I think it’s in him but the AVG/OBP is going to be low. I’m a little worried he won’t get on-base enough for 20 steals

7:47

Rick: Obviously early, but Harvey seems healthy. What to you expect from him going forward?

7:48

Jeff Zimmerman: May maxing out around Dylan Bundy.

7:48

Jake Junis Priest: Big fan of this idea for a FAABchat, btw. Thanks for the time!

7:48

Jeff Zimmerman: You’re welcome

7:48

Mike: Thoughts on Yelich’s oblique injury? What does it mean as in future production?

7:49

Jeff Zimmerman: He needs to get it healed right and not rush back. I’d be happy if it’s more than a 10-day layoff

7:49

Grant: Your colleague brad johnson has an interesting pitcher based strategy. Basically, target pitching early in drafts if your league focuses on bats. Thoughts on this?

7:51

Jeff Zimmerman: In a draft, I try to just find value and treat it like an auction. Going with this approach, I aim for a $$$ mix between hitting and pitching. Sometimes the pitching comes early. Sometimes later

7:51

SD Lifer: E-Rod or T. Ross ROS?? 5×5 14-team mixer.

7:51
7:51

Jimbo: In weekly leagues, do you start Ohtani the pitcher or Ohtani the batter?

7:52

Jeff Zimmerman: Pitcher by a long ways

7:53

Jeff Zimmerman: It really depends on who you replacing in the OF. Look at the trade like Seager & Your OF for Stanton & Marte

7:53

FDR: Was it you that made me avoid Ohtani in all my drafts or did someone else write about his first ST start? Come on!

7:54

Jeff Zimmerman: I did not like what I saw early on. He was inconsistent. He quickly pulled it together. Oops

7:55

John Gibbons: Will Austin Barnes ever get the playing time he deserves?

7:55

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s dealing with an injury so more rest for now.

7:55

RMR: I purposely waited on catcher (one C league) knowing that I would probably just drop the guy I ended up with at some point for a FA was producing better.  I didn’t plan to do so this early, but Wilson Ramos has been terrible.  How early to I pull the plug for a Lucroy, Brian McCann or Russ Martin (OBP league)?

7:56

Jeff Zimmerman: Russ Martin. Set and ignore. Maybe not much power but nice OBP. You can drop later for a power if other needs come up.

7:56

Rickon: Quintana’s velo was up a mile today from his last start. Promising enough to continue top 20 consideration?

7:57
7:57

Jake Junis Priest: AL-Only league with starts limit. Want to target TB middle men to vulture wins with the starters only going 3 or 4, but Cash keeps switching the orders around. Is this a dumb move for me?

7:58

Jeff Zimmerman: You just have to pick a guy and go with it. It’s so tough to target Wins, especially from MR. Just play the best value for ERA, WHIP, and Ks and hope the Wins come.

7:58

DJ: Would you drop either Eduardo Rodriguez or gohara for Nick Pivetta? Are you playing schebler in a weekly league or benching?

7:59

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe on Gohara to if I need a starter.

7:59

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d probably bench Schebler. He might give you nothing.

8:00

Jeff Zimmerman: In that order but swap Peters and Mitchell

8:01

Jake: Jeff, in a 12 team save + hold league, do I hold onto Chad Green? Have 3 closers already and nobody else seems droppable. He seems valuable like Devenski last year but that Yankees bullpen is stacked so I’m a little more skeptical he gets saves or holds? Or should I just keep him and drop Strickland

8:01

Jeff Zimmerman: Drop him over Strickland. You might be able to pick him up later if the need arises.

8:01

Nickel Package: After one week of baseball: breakout pitcher and breakout hitter?

8:02

Jeff Zimmerman: Ohtani and it’s way too early to make a call on any hitter.

8:02

Chris: I’m looking for a SP with RP eligibility.  Who should I pickup between Cody Reed, Liriano, Domingo German or Sal Romano?

8:02

Jeff Zimmerman: Reed, two-start week if you are brave.

8:03

Andrew Triggskaidekaphobia: In a 12 team keeper, how do you see the stash value of Robles v. Gleyber? Does Robles just have too many roadblocks to an early call up?

8:03

Jeff Zimmerman: Robles was my #1 prospect target. Being an OF, he just needs one of three to go on the DL to get time,

8:04

Bobby G: Drop Matt Kemp to pick up Renfroe?

8:04

Jeff Zimmerman: Not right now. Kemp’s playing Renfroe is a AVG/OBP sink

8:04

Guest: I want to pick up Franco but I already have Seager, Olson, and Swanson in my 1B — 1B/3B — and Utility spots (respectively)

8:05

Jeff Zimmerman: OK … not much you can do.

8:05

Joey Callo: Is there anything more pleasurable than seeing a pitch crushed like the one Gallo smashed today?

8:06

Jeff Zimmerman: Triples … I love triples

8:07

Quest: Link to article on stabilization points for stats?

8:07

Andrew: 8 team AL only.  Boring and steady Jed Lowrie is on the wire.  Should I cut Soler and his upside (finally got a hit today!) for Lowrie?

8:07
8:07

Juice: Who do you trust more going forward- Alonso or Davidson? In a small sample Davidson is showing more discipline with 6 walks in 34 PA

8:08

Jeff Zimmerman: Alonso but if my team really needed power, they could take a chance on Davidson

8:08

JuanGrande: $1000 budget…how high a bid on a bench stashes DeShields, or Sal Perez?

8:08

Jeff Zimmerman: 10% each

8:09

Frankzapato: Dansby Swanson on the wire.  Drop Altherr for him?

8:09

Jeff Zimmerman: I would. Take a chance that Swanson has put his skills together

8:09

VFL: Drop Beltre for Franco or Andujar in a dynasty?

8:09

Jeff Zimmerman: Dynasty, Franco.

8:09

Zeff Jimmerman: Will Randal Grichuk ever hit the ball again?

8:10

Jeff Zimmerman: If he does, it will be hard.

8:10

Frankzapato: Sorry – sent without a name before so re-sending – Glasnow dropped this week in dynasty.  Any value?

8:10

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, take a flier

8:10

PadrePhan: Is Ryu droppable for Newcomb, T. Ross, Kennedy, or Pivetta?

8:10

Jeff Zimmerman: Maybe for Newcomb but I wouldn’t

8:11

Brady: Which SP to start this week? Manaea @LAD or Quintana vATL?

8:11

Jeff Zimmerman: Quintana

8:11

A. Oliver Hill: Are a believer in Swanson’s hot start? Drop simmons for him?

8:11

Jeff Zimmerman: No, but if you wait to verify the hot start, he won’t be on the wire. Simmons isn’t going anywhere.

8:12

Derek: Better stash, Calhoun or Senzel?  When do you think Calhoun gets the call?

8:12

Jeff Zimmerman: Calhoun for ’18. It’s when the Rangers get an extra year of control. IIRC, early May.

8:13

VFL: Rank, E-Rod, Pivetta, Junis, Kennedy, Luchessi, Newcomb

8:13

Jeff Zimmerman: These guys are so close. ERod, Newcomb, and then flip a coin

8:14

nick f: ROS: Josh Bell or Matt Davidson?

8:14

Andrew: You mentioned Naquin earlier.  Where might he play, especially with Brantley back?

8:15

Jeff Zimmerman: Has Brantley ever stayed healthy?

8:15

Zeff Jimmerman: What you think of Kyle Hendricks? Im worried

8:15

Jeff Zimmerman: He may be done. He’s a two-pitcher guy with a fastball maxing out under 90 mph

8:15

Scrapimg the SP barrel : Gibson or Stratton?

8:15

Jeff Zimmerman: Gibson

8:16

Vegan Man!: Got offered Donaldson, Boxberger, and Keston Hiura for my Gregory Polanco, Reddick and Robles in a 14 team dynasty points league. I’m in win now mode. Take it? Thank you!

8:16

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes but Robles may come back to bite you in years to come. You have to live with the loss.

8:17

Charlie O: With Boog out, does Dustin Fowler get the call soon?

8:17

Jeff Zimmerman: I think so. Seems like the A’s demoted him to work on something. Not sure

8:17

Luke: Kepler has had a nice start to the season. Pretty good minor league career. Think this might be a breakout year?

8:18

Jeff Zimmerman: I think he’ll be a good but not great player.

8:18

Jeff Zimmerman: No major breakout IMO

8:18

nick f: Any Hope for Hanley after his 30/30 claim?

8:18

Jeff Zimmerman: No way on the SB

8:18

Vegan Man!: Have Lamb and Suarez on the DL now. Any 3B recommendations in a 12 team roto? Have Colin Moran, but he needs a few more starts to be 3B eligible. Thank you!

8:20

Jeff Zimmerman: Cory Spangenberg for the week. Three games at CO. Duffy has been leading off in Tampa

8:20

Jimmer: Are you okay dropping Jordan Montgomery in a 12-team mixed? He’s looked awful so far.

8:20

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, Curn for a good pitcher

8:21

Steve: Hinch said Giles was unavailable tonight, hence the Peacock save. Peacock worth a look?

8:21

Jeff Zimmerman: Depending on league depth, he may be a must own. I’m starting him every week in my TGFBI team

8:22

Vegan Man!: Taijuan worth waiver 1 in a 12 team roto with a 180 start limit? Thanks!

8:22

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, I never save the #1. Just get players when you can.

8:22

Bobby G: How into Mahle are you?

8:23
8:24

Andy: Hey who do you like more for my dh Moran, Thames, Choo? Thanks

8:24

Jeff Zimmerman: Choo for now

8:24

Dave: Should I mostly ignore Teheran’s next start in COL when evaluating what to do with him?

8:24

Jeff Zimmerman: Ignore

8:24

Dave: Who do you think gets the next save opp in MIL?

8:25

Jeff Zimmerman: Barnes

8:25

Carl: what do you think of Trevor Bauer, can he reach top 20?

8:25

Jeff Zimmerman: I like him and he could easily be top-20. It will depend on how many Win’s he gets.

8:25

Pair-a-dice: 14 team. Should Jim Johnson be on a team?

8:26
8:26

westy: What’re your thoughts on using SP eligible relievers in head to head leagues? I’ve got Hicks, Gsellman and Peacock for 4 SP spots. Should I continue to target these players or take fliers on SPs.

8:27

Jeff Zimmerman: I love this strategy for off days. Get enough to fill open slots and then begin working on the rest of your team

8:27

Ryan Zimmerman: Am I already injured? Be patient with cold start or cut in a 10 team league?

8:27

Jeff Zimmerman: Cut in a 10-teamer

8:27
8:28

Jeff Zimmerman: Tucker and evaluate closely once his stats start to stabilize

8:28

Pair-a-dice: It’s only a week. You change your tune on matthew chapman?

8:28

Jeff Zimmerman: No, I will never change an opinion based on a one week sample size for hitters.

8:28

Doug: In an OPS league, prefer to keep Buxton or Conforto as a 5th OF? Kinda potential vs power…

8:29

Jeff Zimmerman: Conforto if you need production this season.

8:29

Nick: Please rank for ROS? Jose Martinez, Sean Manaea, Miles Mikolas and Ryan Flaherty in 12 team H2H 12×12. Thanks!

8:29

Jeff Zimmerman: Martinez, Mikolas, Flaherty, Manaea

8:30

Brett : Where did A.J. Minter’s strikeouts go?

8:30

Jeff Zimmerman:

@jeffwzimmerman

A.J. Minter fastball velocity cliff:
5 Apr 2018
8:30

Walt: Is Ottavino’s new slider for real or just an early season mirage?

8:31

Jeff Zimmerman: It looks nasty. I like him as speculative bid for Saves.

8:34

Jeff Zimmerman: Sorry, but I’m done for the week. With the high question count, we are potentially looking to have someone answer questions before or me. It won’t be together but would extend for two hours instead of one.

BOOG POWELL is on the DL, btw — he wasn’t shipped to AAA as you had posted

Jeff was referencing Fowler having been sent to AAA out of ST, apparently to work on something.
