Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire and FAAB Chat
Note: I forgot about the including the Tout Wars FAAB bids until the 8:18 point.
7:30 |
: is Lucchesi an add in 13 team mixed redraft? |
7:30 |
: Is Lucchesi worth one my only six FA moves for the entire year? |
7:30 |
: Joey Luchessi? Can he continue to succeed with what seems a two pitch mix? |
7:32 |
: I’m not a huge fan of Luchessi but I think he’s worth taking a chance on. The stats have been great with a K/9 over 9 and a 1.72 ERA. |
7:32 |
: Tempered optimism. |
7:33 |
: What’s the deal with Betances? Should I move past him? |
7:33 |
: He doesn’t seem to be his elite self. I have some notion he’s hurt but nothing is public. |
7:33 |
: when will Senzel get called up? Senzel or Andujar for 2018? |
7:35 |
: I’m not sure when the callups will happen. No idea. I was for sure the Reds would hold off until after the Super-2 deadline to call him up until Suarez’s injury |
7:35 |
: Senzel, better talent |
7:35 |
: Would you drop Grichuk for Teoscar Hernandez in a 12 team mixed as an upside play? |
7:36 |
: I’m worried Hernandez will be in a platoon with Pearce and it’s tough to roster a platoon player in a 12-teamer |
7:36 |
: Are we thinking Ryan McMahon ends up back in AAA soon if he can’t improve the batting line by the time Nolan’s suspension ends? |
7:37 |
: I have no idea what the Rockies are doing with McMahon. I bet he heads back to bench warming |
7:37 |
: 12 team roto 8×8: Brantley+Fowler for Corey Seager? |
7:37 |
: Seager side |
7:37 |
: How would you prioritize lucchesi and yonny chirinos in a h2h points league. Also Jose pirela is doing really well right now. Would you drop him for the upside of senzel? |
7:38 |
: I think Chirinos is the better talent but I’m worried about him leading some “Bullpen” days |
7:38 |
: Again, Senzel |
7:39 |
: What’s up tonight? Do I drop Giles for Hader? W Ramos for W Castillo? Thanks |
7:40 |
: No much. Keep Giles if Saves is a category. I was a Ramos fan coming into the season and a couple weeks of games hasn’t changed my mind |
7:40 |
: Ros tank h2h Sano, Kinsler, Beltre? |
7:40 |
: Beltre unless you need HR, than Sano |
7:41 |
: Hey, Jeff — love your content; keep up the good work! I’m in a 12-team H2H mixed/forever-keeper league with BA and OBP as categories. J.P. Crawford was dropped early on prior to his very hot hitting week this week. Are you a believer? And if so, how much $$ am I spending? |
7:41 |
: I finally sat him for a week and then he goes off. In a 12-teamer, maybe no more than 5% |
7:41 |
: Jeff thank you again for doing these chats, they really are a great help…would you drop Ryan Zimmerman to add Luis Valbuena? |
7:42 |
: Bobby, I need more context than this |
7:42 |
: Franchy Cordero or Derek Fisher? |
7:43 |
: Cordero based entirely that he may end up with a full-time role |
7:43 |
: Rays looking at activating Brad Miller this week. They can give him at bats. Does he get back over 20 HRs with any kind of playable peripherals? |
7:43 |
: I doubt it but if the league is deep enough, stash on your bench to see how he starts out. |
7:44 |
: Dynasty keeper: Ian Happ or Scott Kingery for the next five years? |
7:44 |
: Kingery and it’s not close |
7:44 |
: Do you rank Yonny Chirinos ahead of Jake Faria? Based on your recent piece it seems that way but don’t want to assume. |
7:44 |
: Yes and of note, I’m really high on Chirinos and low on Faria compared to most people. |
7:45 |
: Thoughts on Trevor story going forward in standard format plus singles doubles triples |
7:46 |
: He is what he is. Just see if his career rates play as a baseline for talent |
7:47 |
: Who’s more likely to gets saves: Roe or Romo in TB? I have both but would like to dump one to pick someone else up |
7:48 |
https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/tgl.cgi?team=TBR&t=p&year=201… : Unless a reporter has said anything, I always just go here: |
7:48 |
: Looks like Romo from the past few games |
7:48 |
: Calhoun, Senzel, or Gohara, who will be called up first and is best option for 2018? |
7:49 |
: No idea truthfully but I’d bet on Calhoun. |
7:49 |
: Hi. Could you pick one or two middle men from this garbage pile? Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly, Alex Claudio, Kevin jepsen, Chris Martin, Hector Rondon, Matt Andreise, and r buchter? Thank you! |
7:49 |
: Andreise |
7:50 |
: Claudio next but it is a big pile of … stuff |
7:50 |
: Any reason to hold onto Daniel Norris in al only vs a solid middle reliever? |
7:50 |
: No, get the MR |
7:51 |
: I’d hold on to Barnes for one more week. Then hold Hicks is still around. |
7:52 |
: for the following question |
7:52 |
: Was planning to drop Jacob Barnes for Jordan Hicks in a daily-transaction/daily-lineup roto 15-teamer. Barnes seemed to have blown his chance at saves, and Hicks is great for the high-K, low-ratio innings that really do it for me in this league. With Albers taking the L tonight, do I need to hold Barnes for a bit longer to see if he gets another shot? Or is Hader just going to get more and more of the saves, when he isn’t called in earlier? |
7:52 |
: I was going to put in a $1 bid on Pirela (and drop Neil Walker) in an OPS league, but he just had a huge game tonight. I have $178 left of the $250 FAAB. Would you go to $4 or $5 to nab him or just let somebody else have him if they go that high? |
7:53 |
: I’d put in a keep everyone honest bid of $2 to $3. |
7:53 |
: Franchy Cordero and Teoscar Hernandez: do you see them with enough playing time and upside for adds in 12-team mixed leagues and shallower? Sounds like the injured guys they’re replacing should be back soon. |
7:54 |
: No on the playing time. I’m worried that both will be sent down in a week or two. |
7:57 |
: 10 team H2H, drop Colome for 1.] Norris, 2.] Middleton or 3.] not at all? League doesn’t like to trade |
7:57 |
: Not until he’s no longer the closer. If you must make a move, go with Middleton |
7:57 |
: Who is your preferred RP stash? (preference is for possible saves down the road, unless the guy is super helpful with ratios): Jimenez, M. Barnes, Ottavino, Gsellman, or Alvarado? |
7:57 |
: For Saves only, Jimenez and Ottavino, They may be the best arms in their bullpens. I worried Barnes may max out at 4 Saves |
7:57 |
: Wieters or Barnhart? |
7:58 |
: I’m a Barnhart fan. I like his AVG/OBP floor |
7:58 |
: Do you think Pedroia is back soon? Is he worth an add in 12 tm leagues to stash on the DL? |
7:58 |
: Dustin shouldn’t be started in a 12-team league |
7:59 |
: Yelich to get activated from DL soon – which Derek to drop? Dietrich or Fisher? |
7:59 |
: I think Fisher. Dietrich is leading off and playing everyday |
7:59 |
: Jose Pirela or Domingo Santana? |
8:00 |
: I believe in the talent of Santana but Pirela is likely to play more … Santana but it’s close |
8:00 |
: Which side: archer/Soria or Taillon/Middleton Roto lg |
8:01 |
: Archer but the gap as narrowed since the season started. |
8:01 |
: Amir Garrett or Nick Tropeano in 15 team 5×5. |
8:01 |
: Garrett based on talent |
8:01 |
: Gleyber Torres worth the add in a 10-team now? Next chance to add him after tonight will be Wednesday, and I’m a little worried about someone outbidding me on him. |
8:02 |
: If you can bench him, do it. |
8:02 |
: Sleeper saves candidates who might be worth grabbing sooner than later? |
8:02 |
: Jimenez in Detroit. Also, Carson Smith in Boston. Kimbrel’s velocity continues to drop |
8:03 |
: What do make of Happ ROS? 12 team NL only 5X5 I have power, and he’s a big drain on the BA, would you trade him for Luis Urias and a filler like Chase Utley? His value feels like its sinking like a stone. |
8:03 |
: And he’s not playing all the time. I’d move on. |
8:03 |
: I have Pirela, just not sure what he is. Kepler, Senzel, Yonder, Cordero all available. Anyone stand out as an obvious pick up? |
8:04 |
: Take a chance on Senzel for the week and Yonder long term |
8:04 |
: Which Angel is the better play for the next few weeks? Heaney or Tropeano? |
8:05 |
: Heaney. Hopefully the strikeouts stick |
8:05 |
: Is Jedd Gyorko worth a pick up in a 12 team mix? Over Russell, Lowrie, Longoria? |
8:06 |
: I’m not sure how his playing time will work out but I think so. |
8:06 |
: In there something wrong with Quintana? He doesn’t look himself. |
8:07 |
https://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=11423&position=P&pitc… : His fastball velocity is down but trending back up: |
8:08 |
: He’s just walking a ton of batters. I’d sit and wait with him. |
8:08 |
: I’ve got a couple early April SBs and the exit velo on my recent HR was my best mark since 2016. Clearly I’m not going 30-30, but could this be a near-elite season for me? |
8:09 |
: It’ll be OK. I’d cap the SB at 15 though. Probably fewer |
8:09 |
: I see different opinions on Stephen Gonsalves. What say you? |
8:10 |
: Just by scouting the stat line, he needs to quit walking guys |
8:10 |
: Have Reynaldo Lopez in 12 -team points league – any of these worth a drop for? E. Rodriguez, Mikolas, Mahle, Jaime Garcia, Chirinos, Velasquez, Giolito? |
8:11 |
: I like them all. If I was to bet on one, it’s ERod. But I could be completely wrong |
8:12 |
: Josh Bell or Jed Lowrie UTIL? Thought Bell would get the ball in the air more but 50%GB rate hasnt changed much from previous year… |
8:12 |
: Right now it looks like Lowrie. |
8:12 |
: What do you think of Dansby Swanson? Would you take Swanson or Aledmys Diaz at SS for rest of season? |
8:13 |
: I think of him as a high AVG hitter. Not much else. |
8:13 |
: I’d would take him over Diaz based on upside |
8:13 |
: Deep 16 team, H2H league. Take a chance on Cahill and drop a McHugh or Glasnow? |
8:13 |
: I would not take that chance |
8:14 |
: Hader or Bradley? Thinking of dropping happ for b. Anderson, m. Davidson or j. pirela. |
8:14 |
: Hader, same profile and he is more likely to get you some Saves |
8:14 |
: Caleb Smith has the most strikeouts of any player available on my waiver wire (14-teamer). 4.28 xFIP, 31.2% strikeout rate…16.4% walk rate (yikes). Is there anything there? Worth dropping a hitter I’m not using just in case? |
8:14 |
: I would not take the plunge |
8:15 |
: Was just offered Bregman for Ohtani. 12 tm mixed H2H cats with OBP and QS in place of AVG and wins. Thoughts? |
8:15 |
: I like the Bregman side |
8:15 |
: Care to take a guess on when Ronald Acuna finally debuts. Hype train is still sitting in the station. |
8:15 |
: I just don’t know. It would be nice for him to not be struggling in Triple-A |
8:16 |
: Olson’s K% spiked, babip is over .400, makes poor contact and swstr% increased as well. Time to jump ship? Crazy to drop him for Senzel or Willie Calhoun? |
8:17 |
: I’d try to trade him and then pick up one of the possible callups |
8:17 |
: Concerns with David Price? Would you trade him after his start in LA assuming all goes well? |
8:17 |
: None, I was all in coming into the season |
8:17 |
: Also, I like those faab listings you do. |
8:17 |
: One sec |
8:18 |
: Here’s the unedited version: |
8:18 |
|
8:19 |
: That’s the 15-team auction league |
8:19 |
: Here’s the 15-team draft league: |
8:19 |
|
8:20 |
: 15 Teamer. Limited FAAB. Pleased with Pirela as my OF5 and Soler is my OF bench bat. Is Soler any good? At what point do I churn that spot if or when Pirela turns into a pumpkin? |
8:20 |
: I’d churn Soler hoping to hit with someone. I’d prefer Jon Jay over him. |
8:21 |
: Jose remerez or Ozzie albies keeper league keep forever |
8:21 |
: Albies based on age |
8:21 |
: 10 team mixed with deeper bench. Arcia is my only SS. Is there any chance Profar can make an impact? |
8:22 |
: I think it is do or die for Profar. He needs to prove he’s a MLB talent or more on |
8:22 |
: U think Steckenrider or bear claw gets the job? |
8:22 |
: BearClaws |
8:22 |
: Regarding dropping Zimmerman for Valbuena…standard 5×5 Roto league. I know it’s a limited sample but Zimmerman looks bad and seems like the Nats are going to rest him quite a bit. Valbuena looks like he has some juice and Angels lineup appears stacked. Thanks. |
8:23 |
: I could go either way. Both have their issues |
8:23 |
: Would you drop either Giolito or Harvey in order to pick up Chirinos? |
8:24 |
: Harvey yes. … Giolito no. |
8:24 |
: Senzel or torres, who will be better this season? |
8:24 |
: I think Torres, better team around him |
8:24 |
: Need a replacement for Kiermaier. 10 team H2H. Car-go, pillar or Zimmer |
8:25 |
: Pillar or Zimmer. They will replace some of Kiermaier’s speed |
8:26 |
: Folty, Ryu, Wheeler or Lucchesi? |
8:26 |
: Folty but I don’t feel good about it. |
8:27 |
: 12 team 6×6 mixed, should I trade SP for a bat? Kershaw, Strasburg, Greinke, Arrieta, Hill, Manaea, Samardzija |
8:27 |
: Probably, wait for one to really heat up and then more them |
8:27 |
: Nate Jones or Brad Peacock saves/holds league ROS? |
8:27 |
: Peacodk |
8:28 |
: Middleton or Holland, who ends up with more saves at the end of the season? |
8:28 |
: I think Holland but but situations are a mess |
8:28 |
: Thoughts on Miles Mikolas? By the end of the year he is a top ____ SP. |
8:28 |
: 50 |
8:28 |
: Do you having any hard and fast rules for dynasty leagues? |
8:29 |
: Don’t take over someone else’s team. They usually quit for a reason and left you with a pile of “stuff” |
8:29 |
: What are your thoughts on Archer? |
8:29 |
: I’m writing him up in a day or so |
8:30 |
: Sorry accidentally hit send. Is Lucas Sims worth an add in a keeper league that counts holds? Would cut Ketel Marte for him. Top heavy SPs (Verlander Quintana CMart Paxton) back end is Newcomb Minor Chirinos. Already own Gsellman Arano Devenski Leone Hirano |
8:30 |
: Keep Marte |
8:31 |
: That’s it for another Sunday evening. I’ll answer questions again next week. |

I take it these are 30 team leagues where you’re high on Chirinos given your comment from a few weeks ago?:
7:55
Tommy: Any thoughts on the Rays bullpen/5th starter approach? How do you feel about Chirinos and Yarbrough?
7:56
Jeff Zimmerman: None. If the Rays 5th starter is in play in your league, get in a shallower league. I’d own a middle reliever like Andriese before either starter.
