You know how in Spring Training, players really ease into the workload, first starting off with one plate appearance, then two, slowly working their way up to full games? There’s a good reason. I just took several months off from playing basketball and then played on back-to-back nights, and I am dead now. You are reading the work of a ghost. An old, sore, broken-ass-jumper ghost.
I’m unsure there’s a better way to wake up than to your team having won through the night. Yes, it’s September and I should just be staying up as the Jays reach to rediscover their offense ahead of a (sigh) likely wild-card game, but some nights you just have to let go. And again, waking up to that news is better than coffee. I hope your day started well, too.
Saturday in the park, we’re pretty sure it wasn’t the Fourth of July because that was on a Monday this year.

I almost feel like I should be giving a quick playoff race update in this spot, because even though this is entirely a fantasy blog, it’s hard to focus on much other than the post-season. So, let’s try it:
Relevant Winners: Red Sox, Blue Jays (!), Giants
Relevant Losers: Tigers, Orioles, Yankees, Dodgers, Cardinals

Shout out to my pal Christian Stoinev for throwing out the first pitch at the Diamondbacks game in fashion. I’m starting a petition to have dogs on the mound for all pitchers starting in 2017.
A reminder: While “look good, feel good” is a nice axiom, you do not, in fact, have to look good to be good.
It’s about that time. With under three weeks to go, you’re likely pushing up against position limits in some formats, specifically innings limits. The bar for streaming options may be a little higher in those leagues, as everything on a per-inning basis matters most. In other formats, the bar may be even lower as you scramble for counting stats without fear of a cap. It makes it a little tougher to offer blanket advice given how different everyone’s situations may be, but we try nonetheless – just make sure to contextualize any news or advice for your own situation.
There’s no real football today, so watch some baseball instead.

I’ve had the pleasure of spending some time with Eno Sarris here in Toronto the last two days. Last night, he was part of a Pitch Talks with Jeff Passan and a bunch of terrific local beat guys, and the night prior he rolled through after I did a Hoop Talks event. It’s been great – Eno’s helped me a ton from a professional standpoint, and few writers can blend humor, storytelling ability, and just ridiculously sharp analysis the way he does. So, shout out to Eno. And if you’re in Toronto, BarHop at 5pm before the Jays game tonight.
