Chi Chi Gonzalez has a cool name, but he doesn’t have a cool scenario at the moment. The 25-year-old has been diagnosed with a “partial UCL tear in his pitching elbow,” according to Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Gonzalez had a rough few outings with the Rangers in 2016. An 8.71 ERA with a low strikeout rate doesn’t help the situation. Mind you it is a small sample size, we were mentally ready for him to start in Triple-A.

Now, we are just mentally prepared to not see him in action for a while if Tommy John is in his near future.

On the Agenda

  1. Keon Broxton
  2. I’m so Prado You
  3. Getting Miggy Wit’ it

Keon Broxton

Sorry, Keon Broxton, you don’t get a cool pun, maybe next time when I have had some time to think.

During a game on Friday, the Brewers outfielder was removed due to “discomfort in his surgically-repaired right wrist.”

These things are often exaggerated during spring training, but they still freak people out. This was just a precautionary thing as he said he “felt a twinge” during a check swing.

He’s had a strong spring training and is hoping to be the leadoff hitter for the team. He finished his 2016 campaign with a .294/.399/.538 and 23 stolen bags.

The Next Step for Keon Broxton and Domingo Santana

I’m so Prado You

On Friday Marlins manager Don Mattingly announced third baseman Martin Prado will undergo an MRI after injuring his hamstring Wednesday during a WBC game against the USA.

It’s a scary thing to hear, and also possesses some annoyance since we don’t know the severity of the injury yet. At the moment, it looks minor, but the team wants their own medical staff to evaluate.

When it comes to Prado, he’s not a guy you’re going to be jumping up and down and making crazy trades to grab. He’s diverse on the field, but that doesn’t necessarily accumulate to being a strong fantasy option.

A .305 batting average would make him look tempting, but in 153 games he stole just two bags in 2016. He doesn’t strike out a lot, but he also doesn’t possess a lot of power so it’s really difficult to justify him in anything but a super-duper deep league. Like, really deep.

Getting Miggy Wit’ it

Back problems are the absolute W.O.A.T.

It can be anything from sleeping on the couch (we’ve all been there), or something more serious than that. So when Miguel Cabrera was removed from Thursday’s game due to tightness in his back, it could leave us wondering how bad this actually is.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports reported the two-time MVP is likely to miss the remainder of the WBC, which could be a precautionary measure. He will more than likely just take it easy until Opening Day.
