There are three guarantees in life: death, taxes, and Cody Bellinger home runs. In 100 plate appearances, Bellinger has nine bombs and he’s leading the National League rookies in multiple offensive categories. He is also sitting on a 26.7% home run/fly ball ratio.

Joey Gallo keeps hitting the ball, and he’s hitting the ball hard. His .188 batting average this season is kind of joke sitting next to his .500 slugging average, but he does have 13 home runs in 42 games and he’s showing more discipline at the plate. But you really can’t get worse than a 63.3% strikeout rate he left behind him last season.

Marcus Stroman had a strong outing on the mound Thursday night. He tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings against a Braves lineup that was without Freddie Freeman, and in the midst of it all, hit a home run. An opposite field home run nonetheless.

Matt Harvey returned after, you know, the usual supermodel drama we all deal with. After coming back from his suspension, Harvey allowed five runs and three balls were hit over the fence in five innings. He had a high K/9 rating during the outing, but that just left him at a 5.85 K/9 rating on the season.

Zack Greinke had an almost no-hitter Thursday night. He struck out 11 in eight innings after giving up a solo home run to Gregory Polanco. Following the game, he said he was throwing harder, but as he was “trying to throw it down the middle, it kind of goes down and away.” He also credited his slider that was feeling better since spring training.
