Marcus Stroman had a strong outing on the mound Thursday night. He tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings against a Braves lineup that was without Freddie Freeman, and in the midst of it all, hit a home run. An opposite field home run nonetheless.

On the Agenda

  1. News and Notes
  2. New York Mess
  3. Paxton’s session
  4. Probable DFS Pitchers

News and Notes

Leury Garcia left Thursday’s game after he took a pitch off of his elbow. Willy Garcia took over responsibilities following the incident in the fifth inning. Garcia is currently listed as day-to-day.

Justin Turner left the game “slowly” Thursday night against the Mariners limping with an apparent injury. It’s looking like a hamstring issue at the moment.

Eric Thames has been battling a case of strep throat lately but will be in the starting lineup Friday against the Chicago Cubs.

Logan Forsythe could be back as early as Sunday and as late as next week. I would have the mentality towards the latter just in case. It seems his return date is continuously being pushed back.

New York Mess

Since it seems everyone will need a rehab assignment on the Mets, the stints have been announced for the players that are trying to make their way back to the active roster.

Steven Matz and Seth Lugo appeared in a Class-A assignment and did well. Combined they threw almost 100 pitches and there’s a possibility both will be back by the end of the month.

On the same team, Travis d’Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a couple singles in seven innings. Rene Rivera has been rather impressive behind the dish in his absence.

Some great news for Yoenis Cespedes is the fact that he could actually skip rehab altogether and could return to the Mets as early as next week.

Paxton’s Session

James Paxton was placed on the 10-day disabled list at the beginning of May after experiencing some soreness. It was ultimately named a forearm strain, and it’s looking like he’s on a solid return and that timetable will stay consistent. He threw a 25-pitch bullpen session Thursday and could go on a rehab assignment soon. Expect him to be back by the end of May.

There are some daily players that really fell in love with Paxton this season and for good reason, he was stellar. He has increased his strikeout numbers this season with a 0.98 WHIP and even though that flyball rate also increased, those balls pretty much stayed in the infield.

Probable DFS Pitchers

Chris Tillman vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Jeremy Hellickson @ Pittsburgh Pirates

Luis Severino @ Tampa Bay Rays

Tyler Anderson @ Cincinnati Reds

Chris Sale @ Oakland A’s

Jose Berrios was filthy last night. Got plenty of swings and misses on both the curve and fastball. I think at one point, Carlos Gonzalez whiffed on six straight fastballs from Jose. Just wanted to get that off my chest 🙂

He got 20.3% swinging strikes on the fastball and 17.6% swinging strikes on the curveball. Not bad.
