: We’ll kick off in a few minutes. Let’s talk some actual baseball.

: PS I love the Socrates Brito acquisition for the Blue Jays. That’s probably who the Giants should have nabbed instead of paying for Kevin Pillar.

: Ok, I’m back. Headphones on, 90s playlist selected, let’s roll.

: Peter Alonso is a Top-5 1B. Fight me.

Ding, Ding, Ding. That’s how to ring a bell. But how does one ring a Josh Bell. Tune in to find out.

The Padres caught a lucky break over the weekend when news emerged that Eric Hosmer faked his age and is actually a 32-year-old. He previously claimed to be 29. It’s thought the deception will allow the Padres to invalidate his contract, perhaps freeing up money to pursue the next Manny Machado-sized opportunity.

When the Phillies completely overhauled their offense, I imagine this is exactly how they scripted it. Intentionally walk Bryce Harper to load the bases followed by an immediate Rhys Hoskins grand slam. Baseball is fun.

Opening Day! Party Time!
AGENDA
With Opening Day about 24 hours away, I come bearing a gift! The Daily Grind will once again partner with FantasyDraft to supply no rake* GPPs throughout the season. These will be $2 contests, frequently allowing users to enter two lineups. As I’ve done in past seasons, I’ll track the top five performers in each contest for a special Daily Grind leaderboard.
Tomorrow, we have a special 100 entry contest with $200 in total prizes. First place wins $30. The top 25 teams earn at least some money. My philosophy is that daily fantasy should be first and foremost about having fun. This is why I keep our contests low cost with relatively flat payouts. The game starts at 1:05 PM and includes 14 major league games. Best of luck.
Use this link to join the contest or sign up for Fantasy Draft. See you on the playing field.
*Rake refers to the money a DFS site takes as its cut of a contest. I’m very pleased that every penny put into Daily Grind DFS contests will be returned to participants.
We had a chat. It is now complete. The transcript is yours for perusal.
UPDATE: This chat did not age well. Tatis and Alonso reportedly on their OD rosters.

The 2019 season is just around the corner. With it comes another year of The Daily Grind. I’ve been writing this column since 2012. Or maybe 2011. In any case, a long time. It started as waiver wire advice, but the advent of daily fantasy hijacked the focus. With a name like The Daily Grind, it was always destined to about DFS.
Sometimes people ask me why The Daily Grind is the way it is. If you’re familiar with the column it’s basically three very simple parts with some “writer’s voice” tossed in for the lulz.
