The Daily Grind: Overlay Alert

Yesterday was our first sizable overlay since our over-sized Opening Day contest. An overlay is when the platform (FantasyDraft) is paying out more money than they’re receiving. For instance, last night, they paid out $104 on $88 of entries. That means each entry had an expected value of $2.36.

Thursdays, due to the thin slate, tend to feature the largest overlays. Therefore, you should participate in the Invitational tonight.

AGENDA

Brad Johnson Baseball Chat: 5/14/2019

Ray Liotta makes an appearance in today’s chat transcript.

3:58
Brad Johnson: Welcome. We’ll get started in a few moments.

4:00
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Travis Shaw…worth picking up and stashing on the DL?

4:00
Brad Johnson: So we might as well start with a little monologue about the Brewers.

4:02
Brad Johnson: 1. Hiura was called up today. Decent chance he struggles initially. Long term, I’m very bullish. Could click immediately. His strikeout rate at Triple-A looks bad, but more recently it’s been good. Selectively choosing the best “recent” sample reveals 18.4% K% since April 21.

4:04
Fangraph’s Lurker: In a 10 team league, already got a twin (odorizzi) and a phillie (Nola), but should I drop stroman for Gibson? Or eflin? Or pick up hiura?

4:04
Brad Johnson: I’d stash Hiura

The Daily Grind: The Times Are Late

So I was looking over some real MLB stuff and… the Reds are kind of sneaky good, aren’t they? Most of their hitters are underperforming, the team is 15-21, and yet they also have a +21 run differential – fourth best in the National League. Now imagine Joey Votto, Scooter Gennett, and Yasiel Puig actually hitting (to say nothing of Blackhole Peraza). That team could ruin some hopes and dreams in the NL Central.

AGENDA

  1. TDG Invitational
  2. Weather Reports
  3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse
  4. SaberSim Says…
  5. Walk It Off

Peripheral Prospects, Ep 1.08

Welcome back to Peripheral Prospects. As a reminder, this is a column I share with Alex Chamberlain which is designed to identify un/under-hyped prospects. It is not unlike the former Fringe Five series. We have a mission statement. Behold.

Mission Statement: Peripheral Prospects seeks to identify obscure future fantasy contributors.

Let’s jump straight into the action.
