2024 In-Season Starting Pitcher Rankings – May
We’re a month and a half into the season so it’s time for a big sweeping update on the SP rankings. See my Daily SP Charts for regular commentary on pitchers. The $ is the earned auction value so far this year.
There are 151 ranked because I left Cole Irvin even with Grayson Rodriguez returning this weekend just because I hadn’t see what they were going to do. I assume it’ll just be Irvin to the bullpen but I left him in the rankings for now removed him after I ran an update to get Scott into the rankings.

Thanks, man. While I can’t doubt your expertise I want to say as the guy in my league who got Seth Lugo that I’m choosing to believe he’s actually a top 20 guy until proven otherwise.
Thanks for this! One thing on my mind: Gasser at 58 is higher than I’d have expected. I think the last chat you said you weren’t as enamored with him as others, but just outside the top 50, and considering some of the names below him, would love to hear more of your thoughts on him at some point.
You are extraordinarily low on Ranger Suarez. Putting him way below Jared Jones is laughable for one example
Thanks Philly fan. You do know who Jared Jones is correct ? Ranger Suarez is a very good pitcher but pick a weaker pitcher, (not Jones) to complain about.

Matt Manning at 63 seems high. I’d probably have him more towards the bottom of the Team Streamers even as a Manning owner all season
I wonder if he mixed up Manning and Mize? Not sure how the taxi squad Manning ranks so high
Doubtful, Mize is ranked in the next section at #72… maybe giving more weight to the 60 FV from 2021 than the actual MLB results
You left out Lodolo and C Scott.
Is Pepiot left off because he’s not off IL yet? Just curious where you think he will rank, maybe around 50-55?
Confused as to what the $ value represents? It’s clearly not YTD value. Is it a ROS projection? Or a preseason projection like ADP was a preseason valuation?
What is that weird backwards “E” thing after #1 for Jared Jones? I assume this is a typo as he is the best pitcher.

Not relevant to this update but I always find it helpful when analysts rank injured players. I get there is wider variance — particularly when injuries are arm- or shoulder-related — but these rankings are most useful for add/drop and trade purposes and hurt pitchers are often involved.
Two reasons we appreciate your list: (1) your talent/track record, and (2) your willingness to put out an “as you see it today” list regardless whether it constitutes an acknowledgment that you missed on an earlier ranking, i.e. objectivity. Thanks for the offering.
I’d like to hear a bit about your justification for Charlie Morton. Is there something that you’re seeing in the peripherals that signals regression? I’m just having trouble rationalizing Morton below Cristopher Sanchez and Marcus Stroman.

I have GKirby in 100% of my leagues, and even me and Linda don’t understand how you have him ranked so high. I have JJones, and if someone offered my Kirby for him I would laugh. And the only reason I don’t offer him for Imanaga is because *I* don’t want to be laughed at. Please explain. ~ G&L Kirby
