2018 Ottoneu FGPts Rankings- OF

Last week we kicked off our ottoneu FanGraphs points player rankings with C/1B/3B and 2B/SS, and today I’m back with the OF group. This year the rankings will include values from myself, Trey Baughn, and the default values from the FanGraphs Auction Calculator using the ottoneu FanGraphs points preset (Steamer projections). We are presenting our individual dollar values, plus the weighted average of all three rankings (2:2:1 weighting with the Auction Calc weighted less). In addition, the tables below include ottoneu eligibility (5 games started/10 games played in the prior year). Players are ranked only at their most valuable position, and the hierarchy we are using is C/SS/2B/3B/OF/1B (with 3B and OF being a coin toss in terms of replacement level, we chose to include 3B/OF eligibles at 3B).

Prior Rankings: C/1B/3B, 2B/SS

Key:

AVG – Weighted average of Auction Calc, Vibber, and Baughn values
Avg Sal – Average salary across Ottoneu FGpts leagues
Own%– Percentage of FGPts leagues player is currently owned in (as of 2/13/18)

Observations

  • Nothing too surprising at the top, as Mike Trout is the clear #1 OF, followed by the resurgent Stanton and Bryce Harper
  • OF is another position (like SS) with a lot of young studs, especially first/second year players such as Judge/Hoskins/Bellinger/Benintendi (all top 16 OF)
  • Please note that due to an error on my end, Joey Gallo and Nick Delmonico appear here on the OF list rather than the 3B list
  • How much is Ronald Acuna really worth this year? Trey and I both have him in the $9-$10 range, but it wouldn’t shock me at all if this time next year he’s a $25+ OF
  • This Corey Dickerson ranking is before his recent DFA, and these rankings also don’t reflect the Souza trade (Tomas would drop from $6 on my values to $1)

That Braun value from the auction calculator can’t be right…

When I ran AC the other day I thought the same thing about Braun! Apparently 450 PA is totally worthless compared to 550 PA. If you click the “Experimental” button it supposedly adjusts up for part time players, but I have no idea what the calculation is behind that (is 450 part time? is 450 adjusted the same as 250?) Add in the fact that the the AC was done only on Steamer in the earlier lists in the series, and I want to totally throw the AC out of these rankings.

I wish they could just replace the AC with a 3rd expert in this series.

And do the whole thing position-neutral since there is no such thing as position scarcity.
