Wanted: Hitters Who Played Through an 2023 Injury
For the last half dozen or so seasons I’ve attempted to collect the hitters who have played through an injury this season. These banged-up guys underperformed their projection by ~20 points of OPS the next season. That works out to a 5% drop in production. What I need is help trying to collect all the possible batters while this season is still fresh in everyone’s mind. Here are the names I have so far:
- Aaron Judge: Toe
- Adam Duvall: Wrist
- Andrew Benintendi: Wrist
- Anthony Rizzo: Concusion
- Austin Nola: Eye issue
- Bo Bichette: Quad
- Brandon Lowe: Back
- Brendan Donovan: Flexor
- Bryan Reynolds: Back
- Byron Buxton: Everything
- C.J. Cron: Back
- Carlos Correa: Feet
- Chris Taylor: Knee
- Christian Yelich: Back
- DJ Stewart: Knee
- Gabriel Moreno: Shoulder
- Jake Fraley: Toe
- Jonah Heim: Wrist
- Jose Miranda: Shoulder
- Juan Soto: Finger
- Justin Turner: Heal
- Manny Machado: Elbow
- Marco Luciano: Back
- Matt Chapman: Hand
- Michael Harris II: Knee
- Rafael Devers: Calf
- Rowdy Tellez: Forearm
- Tim Anderson: Knee
- Tommy Edman: Wrist
- Will Smith: Rib
- Xander Bogaerts: Wrist
- Zach Neto: Back
Does anyone know of any others and I’d love to have a link to verify. I’ll put together a complete list with links in a future article. Thanks.

Vlad – knee injury since May
Yordan – elbow
Adding on to this – Vlad’s knee trouble actually goes back to March. Missed the WBC with right knee soreness and was shut down for a couple weeks. Missed a couple games in May and then again in September. As a jays fan I’d say this was definitely more of a longer term injury than Chapman’s finger
