Mejia immediately gets value if he improves framing. He’s more likely to be relevant in ’22 as he gets used to the rotation’s preferences which can take some time. He is a better buy for ’22.
Pretty disappointing podcast for me. As soon as the F bombs started dropping over the Darvish trade i was out. You guys are supposed to represent the intelligentsia. Ask yourself these questions: How long do you wait for the current Cub roster to somehow morph itself back to 2016? It ain’t happening.
Do you expect to lose part of 2021 to covid? You probably should with the new strain stating to show up all over. Is there anything in the recent history between owners and players that would suggest the 2022 season will go smoothly and the CBA will be a piece of cake? Why carry an injury prone 34 year old making $20 mill+ for three more years expecting to next get a full season from him when he’s 37?
So while all hell is breaking loose, you add 4 high risk/high reward guys who can mature and develop so that when hopefully some semblance of normalcy returns, they’re almost ready. Hoyer and Kantrovitz are playing 3D chess while many others act like spoiled brats having tantrums.
The problem is that it is mostly money related. They got an ok but not great package for darvish and they likely will only get like two 45s for bryant either.
They could have added some money and gotten those real top prospects but they really didn’t.
The cubs farm system is improving but they are not building a super farm like they did in 2012-15 or like the sox did but more like a middle of the road good depth system.
So why didn’t they add 20 mil and another player and got abrams or Gore?
I do agree they cubs could use a rebuild but then don’t go for cheaper deals so that teams take the contracts.
Do you really think $20 mill is a good gamble on a supposed top prospect? Look at Adell and Lux. Rankings are only guesses.
If you look at surplus value a 50fv is Worth 25m, a 60 about 55m and a 70 80+m.
Big market teams could have used the situation to buy prospects for 60 cents on the dollar and save that money in later years.
I mean I can understand a billionaire doesn’t want to waste money but a year is just an arbitrary mark and they can lose money this year and still make money in the long run.
This would be a good time to make long term deal bargains.
They aren’t “only guesses”. And citing Adell and Lux as if they busts after a combined 283 PA is just hilarious. Almost as funny as carrying Chicago’s water on this crying poor as if there’s a shred of legitimacy to it, lol .
Also it is an average value so a 70fv might only turn out 50m value but another one 140m.
So you agree with Dominikk that the Cubs should have picked up $20 mill of Yu’s contract to get a better prospect? And until they prove otherwise Adell and Lux have accomplished jack squat in MLB. You’re the only one who used the word bust. Have you seen the Cub’s books? Kolten Wong isn’t worth $8 mill.? You’re going to see a lot more guys signing for less than ever and you know it Paul.
Carry that water for the owners, don’t spill!!! lol
For me it’s about fairness. No one side is 100% right or wrong. In today’s USA there is no compromise. If the other guy’ position differs from yours, destroy him. Don’t make any attempt to look at all sides.
And when one of the brightest analysts in this industry decides to leave balance at the door and drop F bombs like a high schooler, well….it’s beneath you. Here’s to a better year in 2021.
