Really great podcast guys, getting to listen you two talk pitching for over an hour is such a treat. But damn, never before and never again will a conversation about Caleb Smith be so heated. Please still be friends!
“Mom and Dad are fighting!”
Really like listening to you guys talk about pitching. thanks! Best part is when Nick is all like “what were you thinking with this ranking, you are insane!”
Don’t tell Paul that tiers are stupid. I was however happy to hear someone take Nick to task after hearing all the Pitcherlist podcasts where he sits on his high horse handing out life lessons to the other people on the podcasts. Seals of approval. Ha. Schrute bucks.
I also really loved the almost 20 minutes on Caleb Smith. I don’t feel Nick comes off as being on his high horse, but I have listened to a lot less PitcherList. Having said that, I thought Paul came off a little douchey with his firm dismissals of like ‘this isn’t about 9 games’. Paul was like, well, it is. It came back to this point numerous times. Paul also said something like ‘I know it’s hard for you to understand’. Kind of fighting words. You could tell Nick started telling him don’t say that, but backed off making any real stand for himself in the name calling.
Ultimately, though, I think Nick is a little more right in his weighting the quality of Caleb’s top two pitches as more important than a terrible HR/9 rate. Paul sure did hate his HR/9, but his 77 innings in 2018 were 1.16 HR/9.
I did love the facts exchange. Paul then moved to talking about Beede as someone in a similar range that he likes. Yikes
