re: Braves and their evaluation of defense. Coppy has said he values defense highly, but thinks the current metrics have problems.

Trading Andrelton and Heyward really doesn’t speak to any of this. Heyward they got a huge haul for, and he was 1 year from free agency. And Simmons for Newcomb… well I get that you guys aren’t excited about it, but if Simmons really had a lot of market value they probably could’ve gotten more. So… it seems more likely that no one made a better offer than Anaheim. I think trading him for a decent return was a far better play than hanging on to him.

Regarding Kemp, Coppy expects his defense to improve if he loses weight. This seems incredibly reasonable, because Kemp is absolutely overweight and dropping 15-20 lbs would surely help. Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen, but Kemp grew up a Braves fan and claims he is highly motivated. We’ll see.
