I gotta push back on the idea that any player should be the #1 pick over Ohtani. Unless you’re worried about injury or are in a league that restricts the pitcher-hitter dynamic of Ohtani, there’s no reason to take Witt above him.
Ohtani just showed us his ceiling and even with pitching this year, do we honestly expect him to hit less than 40 home runs? Do we really think the Dodgers are going to tell him to stop stealing? Even if they do, it won’t be zero so maybe 30 steals?
And he plays on the Dodgers vs the Royals. That’s a ton of runs and rbis to go along with the fact that Ohtani is a darn good pitcher too. In a year where shortstop is fairly deep with quality guys it just seems so difficult to take Witt as first overall.
