Casas was a very good hitter in the 2nd half. But they still have no defensive value, and no baserunning value, so their value will all need to be in their bat. Unlike elite 1B like Goldschmidt, Freeman, Olson, who have shown some contributions in the field and on base paths, Casas’ value is all in their bat. They will need to hit a TON to give Boston the boost needed in a tough division.
Casas’ 2nd half zone-contact rate was 4% lower than his first half. I’m not sure how he can receive demerits when in the past Devers has been much lower. As the second-half quality contact and launch angle certainly overcome this limitation, what’s the deal with pumping the brakes on a breakout?
