The Daily Grind: Storms A Coming

Contrary to what the title implies, I don’t think any games will be postponed today. Delayed though? Yes, some will be delayed.

1. DFS Relevant Draft Picks

None.

2. Weather Reports

Storms are dancing all about – St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston, New York (NL), Detroit, Minnesota, and Chicago (AL) could all be affected. Of those, none look to be a postponement risk. You’ll just want to be careful about picking your pitchers.

3. Pitchers to Use and Abuse

Main Slate: Fourteen games are in the main contest. The doubleheader in St. Louis got skipped. Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, David Price, and Jon Lester are the big names. Obviously, Kershaw and Greinke are the ones pitching like aces. Despite the DH, Progressive Field is a solid venue for Kershaw. A similar statement can be said about Greinke at Detroit. I wish I could use ’em both.

Tyler Chatwood is a little pricey for what should be a bankable 15 to 20 point performance. The game is at PNC Park against a middling lineup. Chatwood doesn’t do anything flashy, but he does occasionally pitch deep enough into his starts to earn 30 DK points.

Joe Ross has pitched terribly since returning from the disabled list. I’d still consider giving him a try tonight. The Nats are hosting R.A. Dickey and the Braves. Smells like run support.

It’s awfully tempting to take a stab at a bargain priced Gerrit Cole. Over his last four starts, he’s posted a total of 6.6 points. Ouch. Prior to the slump, he was producing 20s and 30s with regularity. He costs only $6,800.

Stack Targets: Nick Martinez, Alec Asher, Ben Lively, Clayton Richard, Jose Urena, R.A. Dickey, Kyle Gibson, Trevor Bauer, Christian Bergman, Jacob Faria

4. Hitters to Use

The Yasmani Grandal pick couldn’t be easier. He costs just $3,400 and is opposed by homer prone Trevor Bauer at lefty friendly Progressive Field. Everything is aligned for one of his multi-homer performances. That said, it’s also a good night to completely punt catcher. Think Jeff Mathis or Austin Hedges in that scenario.

I’m not scared by Buck Farmer’s scoreless streak. Though it is weird that he gets so many whiffs with such visually unimpressive stuff. In any case, Paul Goldschmidt and Jake Lamb are go.

I’m all over this Jose Pirela hot streak. I’m less enthused about other Padres versus Scott Feldman.

Somebody is going to thoroughly dismantle Bergman. Why not the Twins? Miguel Sano and Brian Dozier are the boppier of the biggies.

Other Dodgers I want to use include Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger. I’ll form the stack.

If Mallex Smith reaches base, he’ll probably steal multiple bases. Russell Martin has struggled to gun down base thieves.

5. SaberSim Says…

Kershaw, Marco Estrada, Lester, Price, and Cole are the top rated pitchers tonight per SaberSim. The projections really hate Greinke, presumably because he was ass last season. They’re much too bullish on Price and Cole. Both have big upside and craterous downside. Estrada’s a good addition to the list of usable guys, although I worry about most righties opposite the Rays.

6. The Daily Grind Invitational

Congrats to madddmaxx. He got strong contributions from everybody except Todd Frazier en route to 198.6 points. He’s in a heated battle for first place atop the leaderboard.

Let’s slide it on over to DraftKings tonight.

Saying Joe Ross has pitched “terribly” in four starts since returning from the DL is a weird simplification. 13 runs in 22 1/3 innings is not great, but a 27:3 K:BB ratio is quite good.

His first start back was solid, then his next two were disasters. His most recent start on 6/8 was one of the best starts yet of his career.

All this is to say I have no idea what to expect tonight but I’ll roll the dice.
