1. The Daily Grind Invitational and Leaderboard

“You won” proclaimed DraftKings in my inbox this morning. Well, not really. Jbodnar79 is the actual winner with across the board contributions. Congrats. The leaderboard is updated.

We’ll return to DraftKings tonight for the eight-game evening contest. As usual, $2 and 30 users. See ya there.

2. Daily DFS

Yesterday’s Grind

Early: Today’s Coors game figures to be a 40 run affair. The weather (HR) rating is a perfect 10 which almost never happens. Aaron Sanchez and Tyler Anderson are the unlucky participants. The bullpens are already tired.

Normally, I’d like Kyle Hendricks versus the Reds. I’m little wary of him at GABP on a good weather day. Even a small mistake could leave the yard. He’s finally appropriately priced on both sites.

David Price is the ace the slate. He’s opposed by the lefty mashing Rays. I’m not worried about Price per se, but I do think he’ll cough up a homer or two. That’s fine as long as he goes eight innings with 10 strikeouts.

The cheap guy is Archie Bradley, and he’ll be very popular. The hard throwing righty has the tasty Phillies matchup. The last time he faced Philadelphia he posted 45 points in a six inning performance.

Stack Targets: Zach Eflin, Anderson, Sanchez, Christian Friedrich, Cody Reed, Jered Weaver, Daniel Norris, Tom Koehler, Matt Moore

Late: The other eight games are late. The more reliable aces are present with Max Scherzer versus the Mets and Danny Salazar against the Braves. It’ll be tough to pass up either of those matchups.

Looking beyond the obvious, the top options are Jake Peavy, cheap newcomer Brock Stewart, and pricey Carlos Martinez. CMart is at home versus the Royals in interleague play. He won’t have to face a hot Kendrys Morales. Stewart was described in as much detail as we have available in yesterday’s grind (see above). Peavy is pitching well lately and should earn an easy win against the Athletics.

Stack Targets: Joel de la Cruz, Nick Martinez, Sean Manaea, Jameson Taillon, Ricky Nolasc, Logan Verrett, James Shields, Wade Miley

3. SaberSim Observations

SaberSim matches my own picks today – Scherzer, Price, Salazar, CMart, and Bradley round out the top five with Stewart in the eighth slot. However, I’d steer clear of Moore (sixth) and Masahiro Tanaka (seventh).

The Coors game, Nationals, Cubs, Tigers, Yankees, Dodgers, and Brewers are the most prominent stacks.

4. Tomorrow’s Targets

Pitchers to Start: There’s nothing complicated about trying Wei-Yin Chen tomorrow. He’s a command and control guy and the Braves are rather terrible. Home runs have ruined Chen’s otherwise solid season. I thought he’d stop being homer prone now that he’s moved away from the AL East’s ridiculous ballparks. Nope, he’s coughing up more yakkers than ever. At least the Braves hit few of those.

Also consider: Michael Pineda

Pitchers to Exploit: Dillon Overton is a soft-tossing lefty – the kind who rarely establish themselves as viable big league pitchers. He allowed three solo home runs in his debut which could mean good things for the Giants.

Also consider: A.J. Griffin, Tommy Milone, Brandon Finnegan, Steven Matz, Chris Young, Mike Leake

Hitters (power): Byung-ho Park’s recent demotion to Triple-A led to a whole heap of cuts. Well, he’s back. I’m not entirely sure it’s a good thing – Park was demoted so he could work on contact and consistency. Instead he’ll return to the frying pan. He’s batting .191/.275/.409. The Twins are visiting Carlos Rodon at homer happy U.S. Cellular Field.

Also consider: Mac Williamson, Seth Smith, Adam Lind, Hyun-soo Kim, Pedro Alvarez, Matt Szczur, Adonis Garcia, Tyler Flowers, Chase Utley, Robbie Grossman, Trevor Plouffe

Hitters (speed): Keep riding Angel Pagan. He’s hitting well, and he’s taken the second spot in the lineup while Joe Panik recovers from a delayed concussion.

Also consider: Michael Taylor

5. The Factor Grid

The table below indicates which stadiums have the best conditions for hitters today. The color coding is a classic stoplight where green equals go for hitters. The weather conditions are from SI Weather’s home run app. A 10/10 means great atmospheric conditions for home runs. A 1/10 means lousy atmospheric conditions.

Denver gets special colors today.
