1. The Daily Grind Invitational and Leaderboard

I have an early baseball game so I’m cancelling the Invitational today. See you again on Monday!

2. Daily DFS

Yesterday’s Grind

Early: One game is early and three are in the afternoon. FanDuel excludes the possibly rainy Indians-Yankees contest so I will too. The afternoon crowd includes Jake Arrieta at Oakland and Chris Archer hosting Jose Berrios and the Twins.

Stack Targets: Ross Stripling, Eduardo Rodriguez, Sonny Gray

Late: That leaves 11 games for the night crew. Stephen Strasburg tops the charts versus a good-not-great Giants offense. With Matt Cain going for the Gigantes de la San Francisco, Strasburg is worth a heavy investment.

Danny Duffy is coming off a masterful one hit, one walk performance against the Rays. The club had just lost lefty mashers Brandon Guyer and Steve Pearce which does take away from the accomplish. If you want to ride the hot hand, you can try him versus a dangerous Blue Jays lineup. It’s probably best to admit you missed a studly outing. I’d recommend Aaron Sanchez too, but he probably won’t throw more than six innings very often.

Luckily, you can grab Carlos Martinez for less money than Duffy. He should cut through the Atlanta lineup like butter. Homer Bailey won’t do the butter trick with the Pittsburgh lineup, but he could hold his own at PNC Park.

The game of the day (in a real baseball sense) features Tyler Skaggs visiting Taijuan Walker. Both pitchers are fine high ceiling, low floor options for GPP owners. They’re quite affordable too.

Some of you will want to bet on Jake Thompson contributing an impressive debut. My wet blanket includes a low Triple-A strikeout rate (6.04 K/9), a likely short outing, and a reminder that rookie debuts tend to be ugly.

Stack Targets: Paul Clemens, Matt Garza, Andrew Cashner, Pat Corbin, Chad Bettis, Lucas Harrell, Matt Boyd, Cain, Logan Verrett, Ivan Nova, Carlos Rodon, Doug Fister

3. SaberSim Observations

SaberSim likes Archer more than Strasburg by a hair. Personally, I expect at least five more FD points out of Strasburg than any other pitcher. Possibly more. Of course, that’s just a median value. Statistically, somebody is bound to out-pitch him. I don’t know who it’ll be. As is my wont to do, I listed some options above.

Skaggs, Arrieta, and Kluber round out the top five pitchers. Stacks include dat Coors game, Nationals, Diamondbacks, Astros, Tigers, Red Sox, Cardinals, and Trout.

4. Tomorrow’s Targets

Pitchers to Start: Everybody wants to know about Joe Musgrove. I want to know about him too. He’s a command and control righty who could become a very valuable asset in K/BB leagues. His relief debut featured swing-and-miss stuff, his typical command, and a 93 mph fastball. If he carries that into his starts, he may not require the adjustment period most command guys suffer through. The Rangers make for a tough matchup.

Also consider: Matt Andriese, Kyle Gibson, Dan Straily, Dylan Bundy, Matt Shoemaker, James Paxton, Jon Gray

Pitchers to Exploit: The Tigers are somehow contending despite giving start after to start to Anibal Sanchez and other scrubbies. Sanchez has a 6.26 ERA on the season. He’s missing over the plate all to frequently. The result is a high BABIP and HR/FB ratio. And the result of those is the aforementioned 6.26 figure. He’s opposed by the Metros.

Also consider: Anibal Sanchez, Matt Wisler, Adam Conley, Jarred Cosart

Hitters (power): Brad Millr isn’t the best or coolest power hitter available tomorrow, but I felt it was time to point out that he bats cleanup for the Rays. A good lineup role, modest five category production, and multi-position eligibility is quite valuable.

Also consider: Alex Dickerson, Yangervis Solarte, Ryan Schimpf, Aaron Altherr, Tommy Joseph, Mark Reynolds, Ryan Raburn, Derek Dietrich, Seth Smith, Pedro Alvarez, Hyun-soo Kim, Matt Joyce

Hitters (speed): If you can still grab Hernan Perez, he’s only a couple games away from a four game set versus the Braves. Two stolen bases guaranteed! Maybe you’ll get something in the interim too.

Also consider: Travis Jankowski, Cesar Hernandez

5. The Factor Grid

The table below indicates which stadiums have the best conditions for hitters today. The color coding is a classic stoplight where green equals go for hitters. The weather conditions are from SI Weather’s home run app. A 10/10 means great atmospheric conditions for home runs. A 1/10 means lousy atmospheric conditions.

I think Wisler is Na, no? Sent to AAA (for now). Conely as a pitcher to exploit? interesting…
Miller is valuable in even standard leagues, especially he’s hot and plays 2b, Ss and OF.
