Jacks: 12 Team AL-Only, I’ve got $69 left (we allow $0 bids). Lost Urquidy and Luis Garcia this week leaving me with only Three Starters. Gausman, McClanahan and Bradish. How aggressive should I be on Bryce Miller? (Other SP on the wire are JP Sears, Louie Varland, JP France, Lorenzen, Battenfield, Pivetta, Kopech).

Jeff Zimmerman: The $0 bids help a ton to fill voids

Jeff Zimmerman: $30 to $40. Possibly more. I might set up my bids to go aggressive on Miller but get Varland and France/Sears as a backup

ryan: if pfaadt was not widely owned, where would he rank in your list of pitcher pickups this week?

Jeff Zimmerman: Second SP behind Miller.

Greg: If I already have Brent Rooker, is JJ Bleday just too many A’s to have in a 15 team NFBC?  Maybe go for Tyrone Taylor instead?

Jeff Zimmerman: I don’t believe in the too many of a team if the player is producing. Both will probably end up streaming options in 12 and permanent guys in 15’s

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m guessing Mervis … I might like Davis in this instance

HappyFunBall: Good evening Jay Z! Paxton worth a bid? I’m a little worried about the characterization that he’s being activated because he’s run out of time on his rehab stint, rather than that he’s being activated because he’s ready to be a major league pitcher again

Jeff Zimmerman: He hit 5 IP twice and his fastball velocity is up to previous levels. There is nothing else to prove.

Guest: How often are your in-season batter rankings updated here on the site?

Jeff Zimmerman: They are to be done once a month and I did mine a week or two ago.

Guest: Any chance Manoah comes anywhere close to last years form? The underlying numbers say no and I didn’t realize until recently how much last year was smoke and mirrors. Your thoughts?

Jeff Zimmerman: The key will be getting that 5.2 BB/9 down. No pitcher will be the same with a +3.0 BB/9 jump

WilleMaysBday: Was ready to cut Matz in 17-team 5×5, but should his first good start change my mind?  Singer cuttable given his horrible start?

Jeff Zimmerman: Singer can be cut before Matz. I’d drop both for Miller

Norge: Is Brandon Lowe a drop in 12 team mixed roto?

Jeff Zimmerman: Those 7 HR are nice. I just don’t see anyone being an improvement

lovethepod: Do you believe that Maikel Garcia has drastically improved both his power and plate discipline? If so, sky’s the limit, right?

Jeff Zimmerman: The power was legit in AAA but he hit way too many balls into the ground (56% GB%)

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, for sure. I’m not sold on him being a difference maker

Mike: I know you liked Bryce Miller before today’s start. Safe to say you are buying even more now?

Jeff Zimmerman: Some “idiot” dropped over $400 in Tout Wars. Who could that be?  That said, we can get $$$ back from injuries (I had Hoskins) and it has $0 bids.

Jeff Zimmerman: I have him valued at just over a 4.00 ERA pitcher. If he was on the wire, I’d pick him up without hesitation

Jimbo: Lost Yaz last week, Eloy this week.  Better rest of season choice: Tyronne Tayler, Robbie Grossman or Matt Vierling?

Guest: Do you have a preference on Grisham, Ozuna, T. Trammell, T. Taylor as a pick up in a 15 team league. Bench is filled with Call, Wiemer and Doyle (ducks).

Jeff Zimmerman: Whoa, big bench. I usually max out one or hitters on my bnech

daro: Seiya was dropped in my 12 teams league. would you pick him up over Friedl/Kirillof to replace Eloy?

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes

Timboslice: 12 team roto h2h, struggling at 3rd, dropped hayes for senzel, any other options? Duran on tex a better choice?

Jeff Zimmerman: Senzel is top. Garcia in KC will get 3B later this week.

Peter: Can you make any sense of the current Yankees closing situation?  Is King the guy?  Saves only league.

Jeff Zimmerman: King is in some of my bid lists for sure. For any team needing Saves, he must be a consideration this week

Debbie Downer: Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but the projections for ROS for B. Miller are basically 8-9 K/9 and a 4.00 ERA. Good but not great.

Jeff Zimmerman: I’ll pull tonight’s start later, but I have him closer to 3.00 than 4.00.

ROBOCOP: Time to drop Oviedo for either of Gore / Berrios?

Jeff Zimmerman: With those options, stream the better matchups

Guest: Am I nuts for thinking about picking up G. Arias this week? Or at least putting him down as a contingent bid. Close to eligible at 1B with possibility of OF with Gonzalez sent down and a handful of LHP on the schedule? 15 team

Jeff Zimmerman: I think you’re been too cute and should just add Gavin Sheets and then find someone else to stream next week

Which one: Drop Eddie Rosario for Harrison Bader in a 12tm league?   If so how much FAAB?

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, but 1%, maybe 2%. Both are looking like 12-team streamers

Jay: Roster crunch coming with Seager and Altuve. 2 of Jazz Chisholm, Thairo Estrada and Willy Adames have to go. Should I just try hard for a 2 for 1 trade?

Jeff Zimmerman: This was either the worst draft strategy to load up on all elite MI

Jeff Zimmerman: Or you and your two friends need to find more friends and get in a deeper league

KCbbq: Cut Jansen for Conner Wong in a 12 team AL only 5×5 H2H league.

Jeff Zimmerman: I think Wong need to be considered as a catcher improvement in all 2-catcher leagues (or one catcher onlys)

Chris: Is rodon droppable or do you just stash him on IR and prioritize him over others?

Jeff Zimmerman: I see my two Rodon shares and don’t know what to do.

Jeff Zimmerman: I’m worried he’s throwing but just not getting previous results

Bob: When you say 30% – do you mean 30% of what you had at the beginning of the season (1000 nfbc) or 30% of what you have left?

Jeff Zimmerman: 30% from beginning but that can be lower if the league is spending like drunken sailors

Pops: Asked a question about Strahm earlier, but I also have a hitter question. Do I have these guys ranked correctly: H Ramirez, Taylor Walls, JD Davis, Josh Naylor

Jeff Zimmerman: I might have Davis number one based on more playing time

Steve in NYC: 15 tm NFBC, need SBs.  How much would you bid on M Garcia?  Same amount on E Valdez per your TOUT bid?

Jeff Zimmerman: I stole Valdez in Tout Wars, I had to hold back because of the high Miller bid. I suspect both to go around 20% to 40%, maybe more if some really needs SB

Rick: In a 10 team yahoo league with 23 man rosters, would you drop Taj to pick up Bryce Miller? It’s “fastest finger” and Miller is still out there. Taj just on my bench obviously…

Jeff Zimmerman: Yes, hell yes

Decisions: Strahm or Bradish in a keeper points lg with holds? Will Strahm go back to the rotation or is Bradish a better long term bet?

Jeff Zimmerman: I might hold Strahm in a keeper league and see his usage. I could see him follow Suarez later this week and get the W

Jeff Zimmerman: Both are streamable in 12’s but in AL only, I’d go Taveras based on a recent hot streak. He might just be getting healthy after the injury to start the season.

Guest: Berrios dropped; whats appropriate bid for him?   More/less than Bryce Miller?

Jeff Zimmerman: A bit less but it could be decent. I had the situation last week and had the exact same bids for Allen and Berrios

Guest: Is Torkelson starting to happen?

Jeff Zimmerman: He might be, I’m surprised on how bad he’s been

Vader: Sorry Jeff I’m late, so someone may have asked already…I know Mervis is up already but I’m in love with Encarnacion-Strand, and i think he’s forcing his way up perhaps this week. Would you take a chance on E-S or grab Mervis?

Jeff Zimmerman: Simply, no fing idea. I stay away from all the prospect stuff. If I told you anything I’d just be pulling it out of ass.

KCbbq: Do you value Bryce Miller more than Bibee or Logan Miller in a 12 team AL only 5×5 H2H keeper league? Trying to gage what to bid based partly on what they went for….$8 and $12 respectively using $100 FAAB.

Jeff Zimmerman: That little in an AL only? I’d go $20 in a blink of an eye.

Steve Longley: Andrew Abbott worth stashing?

Jeff Zimmerman: Another guy who popped in my system was Sears. Bad team context but solid arm

Jay: Its a 10 teamer with 4 bench spots. Jazz got dropped, Adames was dropped and Thairo was not drafted and was my first waiver grab.

Jeff Zimmerman: Hold for another week but he’s getting close to droppable

Greg: Is Kent Battenfield a guy who can stick in CLE rotation?

Jeff Zimmerman: No once everyone gets healthy and there are no trades. Just too much talent in front of him. He’ll go to the pen or AAA once Civale returns

Adbert Fan Club: Hi Jeff, do you see Alzolay working his way into the closer role for CHC?

Jeff Zimmerman: In 15’s or deeper, Alzolay should be added by some team. He’s a fine streaming option who is better than most starters. And if he gets Saves, the bonus is huge.

KCbbq: My SPs are Gausman, Ryan, Lynn, Jon Gray and Wells. 12 team AL only 5×5 H2H using W+QS. Would you go hard after Bryce Miller to replace one of them? Could also stash him on my bench

Jeff Zimmerman: I wouldn’t go hard with those options but put in a bid and see what happens.

Closer Crazy: Pierce Johnson was dropped with his terrible ratios … % bid (if any) of desperate for saves in NL only

Bruce Live in 2023: Please rate for a FAAB Bid %( highest to lowest bid %) : Lane Thomas, Leody Taveras, Luis Garcia (Nats) or Maikel Garcia?

Jeff Zimmerman: M Garcia (20% to 40%), the other at 1% or less in a 12. If in a 15 or deeper, you might need to 20% on all three

Percy Miracles: Jeff would you drop R Castro or Meneses for either Torkelson or L Gurriel?

Jeff Zimmerman: I’d go Meneses for Gurriel

Guest: Adam or Alzolay in 16 team, 5×5?

Jeff Zimmerman: Adam

Pedro: What would be a fair bid for Varland?  Seems like he could return 80% of Miller’s value at 1/3 of the cost

Jeff Zimmerman: Varland was going for 1% to 6% last week. Where he remains available, I expect similar ranges.

Rob: Would you drop M.Perez for Wesneski… Also have been holding J. Walker but he is not doing well in Triple A… Should he be cut now ?

Jeff Zimmerman: The Perez drop is fine. I’d probably drop Walker knowing I can’t beat myself up next week if he’s recalled.

Tommy: Is Drury’s season a mirage or is he worth an add in 10-12 team 10cat h2h?

Jeff Zimmerman: He’s streamable in those formats

Jeff 4 Prez: Tavares or Kirillof ROS?

Jeff Zimmerman: Taveras, I don’t trust Kirillof staying helathy
