Starting Pitcher Write Ups – August 7th, 2025

Daily SP Chart archive

The chart includes their performance for 2025, their opponent’s wOBA rank versus the pitcher’s handedness from this year so far, my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues, and then a note about them. Obviously, there are league sizes beyond those three so it’s essentially a shallow, medium, deep. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s a much riskier stream for those spots.

These are general recommendations, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. This is for standard 5×5 roto leagues. The thresholds for H2H starts are generally lower, especially in points leagues so I thought there would be more valuable focusing on roto.

With just 4 games, I figured I’d just write ’em up really quick.

MUST START

Paul Skenes | PIT v. CIN – Obviously.

Logan Gilbert | SEA v. CHW – His ratios are up a bit despite his K-BB up 7 pts to an elite 30%.

STARTABLE

Eury Pérez | MIA at ATL – He’ll have another bad start at some point, but he’s having one of the best TJ return seasons I can remember and he’s essentially must-start. Still a cut below Skenes & Gilbert in terms of trustworthiness. MIA’s offensive surge has given him some W upside now, too.

Brady Singer | CIN at PIT – Probably doesn’t leave the lineup in 15s while being a team streamer in 12s and lower. Always bounces back from his Duds and has put together his two best starts of the year (1 ER in 13.3 IP w/18 Ks & 2 Ws) after his latest Dud (7 ER at WAS on 7/21).

LONGSHOT

Jacob Lopez | ATH at WAS – Doesn’t consistently reach 5 IP often enough to be trusted more in shallower formats, but can spike a good outing as a streamer.

NO THANKS

Shane Smith | CHW at SEA – I was big on the Smith Train in the spring but I cut him a few weeks ago when the trouble started. He now has a 10.14 ERA/1.76 WHIP in his last 6 starts, totaling just 22.7 IP.

Mitchell Parker | WAS v. ATH – Just no real upside.

Carlos Carrasco | ATL v. MIA – Love Cookie, but he’s no longer fantasy-relevant.
