Starting Pitcher Chart – June 15th

Daily SP Chart archive
The chart includes their season performance, their opponent’s wOBA versus the pitcher’s handedness over the last 30 days, my general start/sit recommendation for 10-team, 12-team, and 15-team (or more) leagues, and then a note about them. Obviously, there are league sizes beyond those three so it’s essentially a shallow, medium, deep. If a pitcher only has an “x” in 15-team, it doesn’t mean there’s no potential use in 10s and 12s, but it’s basically a risky stream for those spots.
These are general recommendations, and your league situation will carry more weight whether you are protecting ratios or chasing counting numbers. This is for standard 5×5 roto leagues. The thresholds for H2H starts are generally lower, especially in points leagues so I thought there would be more value focusing on roto.

RK | PITCHER | TM | OPP | 10 | 12 | 15+ | IP | ERA | WHIP | K-BB | wOBA RK | NOTE | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Cristian Javier | HOU | WSN | x | x | x | 74.2 | 3.13 | 1.06 | 19% | 19th | If anyone can get WSN to strike out a bunch, Javier has to be among the top candidates | |
2 | Nathan Eovaldi | TEX | LAA | x | x | x | 86.2 | 2.49 | 0.98 | 20% | 7th | Has won 8 straight decisions across his L10, posting a filthy 1.65 ERA/0.86 combo | |
3 | Sonny Gray | MIN | DET | x | x | x | 72 | 2.25 | 1.25 | 17% | 25th | Probably deserves more attention for his excellent season thus far (no more than 3 ER) powered by just 1 HR allowed | |
4 | Shohei Ohtani | LAA | at | TEX | x | x | x | 76 | 3.32 | 1.04 | 22% | 1st | Probably would’ve used him as a hitter this week but he is part of the small group who I would use v. TEX |
5 | Logan Allen | CLE | at | SDP | x | x | x | 51.2 | 3.31 | 1.39 | 16% | 6th | A bad 1st inning saddled him w/his worst start of the yr (still went 6 IP!)… he’s not leaving the lineup, also gets OAK next yr |
6 | Aaron Nola | PHI | at | ARI | x | x | x | 88 | 4.60 | 1.10 | 17% | 10th | The WHIP keeps him in the lineup and I guess we just hope the ERA starts to come down |
7 | Dylan Cease | CHW | at | LAD | x | x | x | 74 | 4.38 | 1.34 | 15% | 11th | Back on track w/a 2.94 ERA & 1.14 WHIP over his L6 since the 7 ER dud at KC that pushed his ERA to a season-high 5.58 |
8 | Marcus Stroman | CHC | PIT | x | x | x | 85.2 | 2.42 | 1.04 | 13% | 6th | NL best ERA and WHIP have him rolling, though his 3.94 SIERA says he isn’t thaaaaattt different from who he’s always been | |
9 | Taj Bradley | TBR | at | OAK | x | x | x | 38.2 | 4.19 | 1.27 | 24% | 28th | Hopefully he can take advantage of this schedule reprieve after HOU, NYM, BOS, and TEX w/in his L5 starts |
10 | AJ Smith-Shawver | ATL | COL | x | x | 7.2 | 0.00 | 0.78 | 7% | 4th | We haven’t seen standout skills from the fast-rising 20 y/o but maybe a home start v. COL brings out the best in him? | ||
11 | Michael Grove | LAD | CHW | x | x | 25 | 8.28 | 1.60 | 13% | 29th | He’s been better since the 9 ER dud at ARI, but still not great (5.60 ERA/1.30 WHIP)… the matchup is appealing, though | ||
12 | Tyler Wells | BAL | TOR | x | 75 | 3.24 | 0.85 | 20% | 3rd | Love what Wells has done this yr w/an MLB-best 0.85 WHIP, but that 1.7 HR rate makes me OK w/sitting him here as was the case w/Bradish (who dominated despite just 1 K) | |||
13 | MacKenzie Gore | WSN | at | HOU | x | 69 | 4.04 | 1.39 | 18% | 5th | Has reigned in the BB w/just a 7% in his L8, but in its place is a 1.9 HR rate thus a 4.71 ERA over that time | ||
14 | Paul Blackburn | OAK | TBR | x | 15 | 3.60 | 1.33 | 14% | 18th | A solid outing, a gem, and a dud in his 3 starts off the IL make him an interesting pickup for next wk’s CLE start | |||
15 | Rich Hill | PIT | at | CHC | x | 72.1 | 4.23 | 1.37 | 14% | 24th | His L5 underscore his streamer volatility: 0, 1, 2, 5, and 6 ER… be careful! | ||
16 | Matthew Boyd | DET | at | MIN | x | 58.1 | 5.55 | 1.35 | 13% | 17th | 4 duds in his L8 but the other 4 have been really good so he’s a coinflip… aka a standard streamer | ||
17 | Yusei Kikuchi | TOR | at | BAL | x | 66.1 | 4.34 | 1.34 | 15% | 23rd | I’m a broken record here every 5th day, but I just can’t get behind him in many formats w/that MLB-high 18 HRs allowed… be careful | ||
18 | Kyle Freeland | COL | at | ATL | 76 | 3.91 | 1.26 | 10% | 26th | Despite ATL’s light offensive output recently, I’m still not sure I can get behind a Freeland start here… his 10% road K is half hime home mark | |||
19 | Ryne Nelson | ARI | PHI | 67.1 | 4.95 | 1.46 | 6% | 14th | The meager skills just don’t offer enough to take the gamble in any matchups | ||||
20 | Ryan Weathers | SDP | CLE | 38.1 | 4.93 | 1.49 | 6% | 14th | Hasn’t reached 5 IP in any of his last 3 outings |
Huge Sonny Gray jinx
