Second Base Rankings: RotoGraphs Consensus

Tiered Ranks: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, NL OF, AL SP, NL SP, Holds.
After all of our talk about Jason Kipnis and Dustin Ackley, you may still be surprised about where they sit in our consensus ranks. A degenerative knee condition has pushed Chase Utley down. Each of us had a different opinion about Jose Altuve. We all agreed about Omar Infante’s mediocrity.
Enjoy our Fantasy Baseball Second Base RotoGraphs Consensus Ranks! Brevity is not our strong point.

With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.

Please stop talking up Kipnis. I need people to forget about him until after draft day.
You’re welcome, then.
Looks like Young’s and Cuddyer’s consensus should be moved up. Podhorzer not ranking them shouldn’t bring their rankings down.
Yeah, I didn’t rank players at positions unless they qualified under standard rules….as in 20 games at the position or whatever position they played at most. That’s what my dollar values use, but FantasyPros uses 5 games because that’s how Yahoo sets it. Cuddyer qualifying at 2B is a joke!
Ottoneu only needs 5 games started too.
Since like 75% of the fantasy world uses Yahoo, it’s time to get with it!
right, I get/respect that. but you choosing not to include them shouldn’t bring their rankings down. the people who ranked Young all had him 12th or higher, yet his consensus is 14. it seems they treated him as if you just didn’t think he’s top 30.
Please continue to talk up Kipnis. I want people to overvalue him on draft day.
No Alexi Cassila?
Am I missing something here? How is Cuddyer ranked so low? 20 Hrs and 75 Rbis are pretty useful at 2b.
Wow, I did not bother to read the first post. My apologies.
This doesn’t make me feel better about paying $17 for Ackley only to snatch up Phillips for $15 later.
nothing should make you feel good about paying $17 for Ackley
you shouldn’t have felt good about paying $17 for ackley in the first place
Kipnis looks like an exciting player – pedigree, power, contact, batted ball profile. Maybe he can be Danny Espinosa with a better batting average.
Really Eno? You go ahead and take Pedroia over Cano
although it’s (IMO) a hair ambitious, i can’t but love the boldness of the altuve ranking. 2b has a lot of intriguing names late, and this definitely underscores it.
keep up the terrific work guys!
I fail to see the difference between Kipnis and Kelly Johnson. If you’re willing to take Kipnis 10th, you should be willing to take Johnson right around him.
go eno! good job breaking the trend of ranking Cano first! Zach sanders? why is zobrist ahead of Kinsler? injury concern?
The Cardinals have no plans to play Craig at 2B ????? It will be Greene, Descalso, or Schumacher
Utley out of the top 10 makes this Nat fan happy!
Also doesn’t Bonifacio of the marlins qualify as a 2B? He has the steals and speed to be considered top 10. Does he not?
Are these draft rankings based on normal fantasy leagues, or Ottoneu?
I’m planning on using your rankings for a pretty standard ESPN league. I suppose technically the rankings would be the same either way, but just wondering. Thanks.
If Ryan Howard’s injury keeps him out longer than expected–say to August or even the entire season, does anyone think Utley might get some spot starts at 1B, enough to possibly get him 1B eligible? I know he’s an amazing fielder at 2B, but with his knee troubles, playing him at first once or twice a week could potentially save him physically a bit, no?
lol at the Kipnis comments
