Second Base ADP Market Report: 3/13/2024

As we hit the beginning of draft season, it is important to monitor where players are being drafted on a regular basis. Throughout draft season, I will be doing that work for you with regular updates on the Average Draft Position on NFBC up until Opening Day. You can read all the Market Reports here.

Top 100 Players Rising

Gleyber Torres (+7.13) – Torres has now risen in his second consecutive month. I think this is just a matter of his stability being overlooked in the early drafts. Torres is coming off of his second straight season with at least 24 home runs and 10 stolen bases and 2024 was his best season since 2019. He is still just 27 years old and is about as safe as you ccan get at the position after the elite options are gone.

Top 200 Players Falling

Tommy Edman (-21.76) – Edman is falling because he is coming off of offseason wrist surgery. This was supposed to be a simple procedure but now he has had a setback and it seems pretty unlikely he will be ready for opening day. Typically these injuries sap a player’s power as well. I think he is getting close to being on my do not draft list.

Top 300 Players Rising

Jorge Polanco (+13.65) – Polanco is rising after being traded to Seattle this offseason. This is an example of any news raising the price on a player. While Seattle is a better team, it is not a great park and Polanco’s biggest issue is his inability to stay on the field. He has not reached 500 plate appearances in his last two seasons and at this point it is hard to believe he can stay healthy enough to get back there.

Top 300 Players Falling

Jonathan India (-41.47) – India is dropping because he is struggling with health once again. India had missed most of spring training with an injury, but has recently returned and homered in in both of his first two games. With Noelvi Marte suspended, there is a clear path to playing time and India may represent a pretty decent steal at his price.

Others of Note

Joey Ortiz (+189.92) – Ortiz is rising after being traded from Baltimore to Milwaukee. Ortiz looks like he has the inside track to the starting third base job for the Brewers. Ortiz profiles mostly as an accumulator with not much power or speed but just enough of both to have value if he can get to 600 plate appearances. There seems to be an opportunity for him to get there, but he could lose playing time if he struggles or the Brewers decide to promote a guy like Tyler Black

Justin Foscue (+145.69) – Foscue is rising with the possibility he could make the Rangers Opening Day roster due to all of their infield injuries. With Nathaniel Lowe, Corey Seager, adn Josh Jung all uncertain to be ready for the start of the season, Foscue could be in for a lot of playing time early on. He has limited upside, but in deeper leagues he could provide valuable plate appearances and add positional eligibility.

Do you see an upside play on Massey in an improved KC line-up? What is behind his drop? This seems low.
