Second Base ADP Market Report: 2/12/2024
As we hit the beginning of draft season, it is important to monitor where players are being drafted on a regular basis. Throughout draft season, I will be doing that work for you with regular updates on the Average Draft Position on NFBC up until Opening Day. You can read all the Market Reports here.
Top 100 Players Rising
Gleyber Torres (+13.59) – Torres is rising because he started just a bit too low in the early ADP. Torres has been extremely steady over the last two seasons hitting at least 24 home runs and stealing at least 10 bases in each of those seasons while hitting at least .257. Last year was the best season of his career since his fluky 2019 which was a rabbit ball infulenced season. He is just 27 and still has a lot of value at his current ADP.
Top 100 Players Falling

Top 200 Players Rising
Andres Gimenez (+11.03) – I think Gimenez’s rise is more a correction for being a little too low in the early ADP more than anything else. While he had a 97 wRC+, he had a very good fantasy season, hitting 15 home runs and stealing 30 bases. He doesn’t have the counting stats in terms of runs and RBIs to justify his price continuing to rise, but the power/speed combo means he is appropriately ranked right now.
Top 200 Players Falling
Tommy Edman (-11.14) – Edman is falling because he is coming off of offseason wrist surgery. There is some risk here that he is not ready for Opening Day but he should continue to fall in the ADP and in leagues where you can put him on the IL to start the season, he may turn into a bargain.
Top 300 Players Rising
Luis Rengifo (+20.57) – Rengifo is rising with the projection that he may lead off for the Angels since they have not signed anyone as of yet to supplant him at second base. The hard part is the Angels have not given Rengifo a full run in his first five seasons with the team, but there is not a ton of competition and this may finally be the time.
Jeff McNeil (+22.5) – I am a little surprised that McNeil has jumped up so much. McNeil is mostly an empty batting average guy. It took a career high 648 plate appearances for him to hit 10 home runs and stole 10 bases. This is not the profile of a guy that I tend to draft because he is such a negative in most categories.
Top 300 Players Falling
Ryan McMahon (-12.06) – I am a little surprised to see McMahon drop. Yes, he has never lived up to his prospect pedigree but he has been one of the more stable players at the position over the last three seasons, hitting at least 20 home runs in each of those seasons while throwing in 5-7 stolen bases.
Jonathan India (-37.06) – India is dropping with the fear he will not have enough playing time in Cincinnati after the signing of Jeimer Candelario. I really thought that the Reds would trade India or someone else on the infield to break the logjam there but at this point it seems likely is the main DH but loses playing time as they rotate players that need days off to that spot.
Whit Merrifield (-11.46) – Merrifield was falling because he had not yet signed with a team. That has now changed after signing a one year deal in Philly. I don’t know that it really helps his value as he likely is a utility player that platoons on the short side, but I would expect his ADP to return back up to where it was at least with the news that he is on a team.
Others of Note
Liover Peguero (+26.77) – Peguero is rising after a small sample in which he hit seven home runs and stole six bases in just 213 plate appearances for the Pirates. He is also penciled in as the second baseman according to Roster Resource. However, I am not really buying a lot of that. Liover doesn’t project to have more than maybe league average power and while he does have speed he struggled with strikeouts and hit just .203 versus right handed pitching. He has a natural platoon partner on the team with Ji Hwan Bae and that would put Liover on the short side as a righty.
Jose Caballero (+203.46) – This rise has everything to do with being traded from Seattle to Tampa Bay where he initially looked like he could be the starting shortstop for the Rays. However, just yesterday the Rays signed Amed Rosario to a one year contract which could muddy up Caballero’s playing time. I still think he could be a good guy to target as he is a great defender and Rosario is anything but.
