Just wanted to get your thoughts on this trade:
ESPN keeper league, 12 team, 5 x 5, head to head, only 3 OF spots and 1 UTIL spot
“Vasquez is a solid pitcher”
I think that you are underselling him. He currently sits with a 3.15 FIP and that includes a 13.6% HR rate.
I consider a pitcher with a 3 FIP and 11k/9 to be a bit more than solid.
Of course he is likely to regress, but Zips forecasts him to have a 3.35 Fip the rest of the way. I am curious whether he can maintain such a high K rate in the NL East. I hypothesize that the marlins, Nats, and Phillies all have high strikeout hitters.
I love vasquez
If he traded Broxton for Vasquez he does gain in that category but the cupboard is left bare in the bullpen. Unless you are advocating punting saves you really can’t leave yourself with a single closer with a full time gig in a 10 team league. The top teams in the category will have 3 closers and the have-nots will have 1 or less. Hawkins will lose the role once Valverde is back and Madson is an o.k. fill-in when Lidge is unavailable but he’s not a threat to take his job.
