Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested. Will add a link once available.

Quick Hits

DJ LeMahieu was placed on the IL with a toe injury. There is no timetable for his return.

Keibert Ruiz was removed from the game after being hit in the testicles with a fouled off pitch. Ruiz had to be transported to the hospital following the incident. There is no update on his condition at the time of writing.

Freddy Peralta was removed in the third inning of his start due to shoulder fatigue. This is not good. Peralta stated after the game that he would pitch again this season, but he will be placed on the IL which means he will miss more than half of the remaining season.

Various News and Notes
Yadier Molina went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the loss to the Nationals on Thursday.

Molina is in the twilight of his career as he is expected to retire at the end of the season, but he should catch a lot down the stretch as the Cardinals give him the swan song the future Hall of Famer does a much deserved victory lap.

Seiya Suzuki went 2-for-4 with a home run in the loss to the Reds on Thursday.

Suzuki has not yet delivered on the hype that there was for him when he came over from Japan, but over the last month he is hitting .308 with four home runs and two stolen bases while hitting second regularly for the Cubs. Suzuki seems to be getting more and more comfortable as the season progresses and he could be a post hype sleeper in 2023.

Adrian Sampson 샘슨 threw six innings versus the Reds, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out one.

Sampson isn’t overwhelming, but is an interesting streamer in decent matchups. He gets the Mets for his next start, but after that he lines up against the Marlins in Miami and the Pirates in Pittsburgh which are about as good as you can ask for.

Yoan Moncada went 5-for-6 with two home runs in the victory over the Athletics on Thursday.

Moncada has struggled this season, hitting just .211/.280/.344 with nine home runs and no stolen bases in 339 plate appearances. Moncada has been living off of old prospect hype in the fantasy world for a few seasons since he hasn’t really been good since his 2019 season. The talent is still in there and he is still just 27, so it wouldn’t be fair to write him off completely, but at this point, he probably shouldn’t be rostered or drafted in anything but the deepest of leagues.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today:  David Peterson at MIA

Peterson has pitched well, but this is more about a great matchup versus the Marlins.

High Risk Options: Roansy Contreras vs STL, Drew Smyly vs SF, Austin Voth vs BOS,

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Jon Heasley vs DET

Heasley has quietly been good since his recall and he has a nice matchup.

High Risk Options: Matt Manning at KC, Dean Kremer vs BOS, J.T. Brubaker vs STL.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

Rays limited Jeffrey Springs last start to 3 innings. Are they planning to severely limit his innings going forward?

Springs has thrown 109.2 IP this season, more than his combined total from 2019 – 2021 of 106.1. Sure seems like an innings limit.
