Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested. Will add a link once available.

Various News and Notes
Bryce Elder threw a complete game shutout versus the Nationals, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out six.

Elder really had the sinker going on Tuesday, registering a 37% CSW on the pitch. More importantly, Elder’s control was on point as he threw 65 pitches for strikes. Elder has now thrown four straight nice outings and has a great matchup to finish the regular season at MIA.

O’Neill Cruz went 4-for-5 with two runs scored in the victory over the Reds on Tuesday.

Cruz has been an interesting player this season. He has 17 home runs and eight stolen bases in 302 at bats this year, but has hit .225 with a 36.7% strikeout rate. However, since becoming the main leadoff hitter on 8/27, he is hitting .275 with seven home runs and two stolen bases in spite of striking out 40 times in 119 plate appearances. In that time the plate skills are better, but until Cruz cuts down on the strikeouts, he won’t be able to fully reach his potential. He will be a popular target for many in 2023, but it will be very format and price dependent for me.

TJ Friedl went 1-for-4 with a home runs in the loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.

Friedl has been really since returning to the Majors, hitting .286 with seven home runs and two stolen bases while leading off in the majority of his games played during the month of September. Freidl should have a leg up on the competition in the Reds outfield and has the ability to be a really interesting sleeper in 2023.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today:  Mitch Keller vs CIN

Keller continues to roll and it is surprising that he is still only 28% rostered.

High Risk Options: Bailey Ober vs CHW, Kyle Bradish at BOS, Joey Wentz vs KC.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Matt Manning vs KC

Manning has been pitching well and has a nice matchup versus Kansas City.

High Risk Options: Dean Kremer at BOS, Jake Odorizzi at WAS, Michael Lorenzen vs OAK, Haydn Wesneski vs PHI, Rich Hill vs BAL, Tyler Glasnow at CLE.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
