Closer Chaos
Pete Fairbanks left Monday’s game versus the Diamondbacks with an injury.
Fairbanks was clearly in pain as he walked off the mound, but there was no update offered after the game. Consider him day-to-day for now. Michael Petersen and Calvin Faucher would be the next men up for the Marlins.
Quick Hits
Angel Martinez left Monday’s game with a side injury.
The Guardians called the move precautionary. Consider him day-to-day at this time.
Various News and Notes
Jonah Tong threw six innings versus the Orioles, allowing one unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out six in the victory on Monday.
Tong was great in the outing, getting a 30% whiff rate on his pitches and showing good command and control. Tong is a former top prospect and if he finishes strong in his last two starts versus the Phillies and Nationals, he could have some post-hype sleeper appeal for 2027.
Quinn Mathews threw 6.2 innings versus the Giants, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight in the victory on Monday.
Mathews pitched very well against what is ostensibly the Giants AAA lineup, getting a 36% whiff rate on his pitches. Mathews has pitched well in his callup, but has struggled with walks. He doesn’t have great stuff, so he needs the control to be more consistent if he is going to be effective.
Javier Sanoja went 2-for-4 with a home run and stolen base in the loss to the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Sanoja has quietly been a good accumulator this season, hitting .291/.331/.442 with nine home runs and 11 stolen bases, but his best work has been since the beginning of August where he has hit six home runs and stolen five bases in 153 plate appearances. He is eligible at four positions and should retain three of them for next season.

Pitcher for Today: Griffin Jax vs ATH
The Athletics are terrible away from home and Jax was better in his last start.
Other Options: Davis Martin at CLE, Drew Anderson 앤더슨 앤더슨 at TOR, Ryan Johnson vs SEA, Andre Pallante vs SF, Michael Soroka vs MIA.
Pitcher for Tomorrow: Yusei Kikuchi vs SEA
Kikuchi has pitched better since the Angels parted ways with Mike Maddux and faces the worst team in baseball versus left handed pitching.
Other Options: Erick Fedde 페디 at CLE, Cristian Javier vs KC.
