COVID Issues

According to Hunter Renfroe, Major League Baseball told the Red Sox to stop testing and just worry about symptomatic cases.

Major League Baseball has denied this accusation, but there will likely be more stories and fall out from this. Stay Tuned…

Quick Hits

James Taillon was placed on the 10-Day IL with an ankle injury. The injury has been reported as an ankle tendon injury, which doesn’t sound great. The Yankees don’t believe this is a season ending injury so that is good news at least.

Various News and Notes

Carlos Hernandez threw six scoreless innings in the victory over the Orioles, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out one.

Hernandez was good, attacking the strike zone all game, which led to a ton of weak contact, but meant he did not get many strikeouts. That being said, he has been amazing since the end of July, going in at least six innings in six of eight games and allowing two runs or less in seven. He is a top 40 pitcher rest of the way.

Ranger Suarez threw six innings versus the Rockies, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts in the no decision.

Since joining the rotation at the beginning of August, Suarez has thrown 37.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs and striking out 36. He Has been even better since being stretched out allowing just three earned runs over his last four starts in 23 innings and striking out 25. He is oddly still available in 34% of CBS leagues and should be rostered in every format.

Luis Garcia went 2-for-5 with a home run in the loss to the Braves on Thursday.

Garcia has struggled since returning to the Majors after the Trea Turner and Josh Harrison trades, hitting .240 with four home runs. However, Garcia is just 21 and there is power in the bat with a pretty darn good hit tool. The Nationals should give him plenty of rope and he could be an interesting sleeper heading into next year if he projects to play everyday.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today:  Adrian Houser at CLE

Houser has been really good lately and has a nice matchup away from Milwaukee.

High Risk Options: Brady Singer at MIN, Michael Wacha at DET, Matthew Boyd vs TB, Glenn Otto at OAK, Eli Morgan vs MIL.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: None

Lots of options, but none that are safe.

High Risk Options: Elieser Hernandez at ATL, Taylor Widener at SEA.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
