Kyle Gibson finds his strikeouts
Gibson’s start against the Red Sox yesterday was notable not only for it being his third straight shutout, but also because he struck out eight batters. Gibson also allowed just a single hit over seven innings, and that’s great and all, but striking guys out is more interesting. Coming into the game, Gibson had a K% under 12%, almost exactly the rate he posted over ten starts last season.

Just like Tuesday’s terrific start from Phil Hughes, Gibson’s went to waste, and the Twins lost in 10 innings. Minnesota was swept by the Red Sox over three games, losing by a grand total of one run in each game.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia back from DL
Salty was out for over two weeks after suffering a concussion, but he’s back now after being activated from the DL yesterday. Salty has had a strangely productive season, posting a 106 wRC+, but a .237 batting average has pretty much killed his fantasy value. If you’re playing in an OBP league Salty is fine to have around, but standard league owners should basically ignored him.
