Paul Goldschmidt out for season
Goldy is scheduled to miss the remainder of the 2014 season after fracturing his hand on Friday. Goldschmidt was unintentionally plunked by Ernesto Frieri, and the Diamondbacks later played the thug card and retaliated against Andrew McCutchen in his final AB in the next game. Goldschmidt ends his season with 19 homers, 8 steals, and a crisp .300 batting average. With another year of .400 wOBA production, there’s no reason Goldschmidt won’t be one of the first 12 off the board in 2015.

Adam Wainwright has struggled recently
I’ve mentioned this on twitter before and it’s not necessarily newsy, but Adam Wainwright has been not so good since he grooved that pitch to Derek Jeter in the All-Star game. It should also be noted, however, that he wasn’t great in his two starts prior to his appearance in Minnesota.

Over his last six starts, Wainwright may have an ERA of 3.03 and a 3-2 record, but he only has 22 strikeouts in 38.2 innings, walking 15 guys in the process. Wainwright’s ERA on the year is still a sparkling 2.26.

Danny Santana stays hot
Santana played his part in the Twins routing of the White Sox yesterday, collecting five hits — including a double and a triple — and stealing two bases. Santana’s great game brings his average to .325 on the season, and his BABIP is now up to .401. Santana never hit for .300 average in the minors, and he was usually around the .265 mark thanks to strikeout totals far too high for a player with his lack of power. While there’s still plenty of time to blow it, as of now Santana seems to have earned himself a starting job for the Twins in 2015. Santana could start in center or at short, and he will be eligible at both in 2015. You won’t want to draft him.

The Fixated Five

SP: Corey Kluber | $9,800 | vCIN
SP: Tanner Roark | $8,800 | vBAL
1B: Jose Abreu | $5,500 | vTEX (Nick Martinez)
3B: Conor Gillaspie | $4,100 | vTEX (Nick Martinez)
OF: Leonys Martin | $3,800 | @CHW (Hector Noesi)

A lighter slate of games today, but I see the TEX/CHW matchup as a slugfest, so take advantage of it if you can.

I’m trying to replace Goldy in my CI slot, but could move some things around to free up a Util. slot instead, so position is not an issue. Right now, I moved Bogaerts back into the starting lineup, which is not ideal. Goldy was the hart of my team with his across the board production, so which of these luminaries available on the wire do you see as offering the most overall production: Valbuena, M. Reynolds, D. Peralta, G. Jones, J. Francisco, C. Coughlan

What do you need to replace the most? By that I mean, do you need to replace Goldy’s average or power? If I needed the average I would probably go with Coghlan, he isnt providing much beyond batting average, but he will at least soften that blow. If I needed power I would probably go with Francisco, but beware Lawrie should be back sometime in the near future.

As a fellow Goldy owner, I too am hurt by the news. To make matters worse one of my other 1B was Hosmer. I have to hope Lucas Duda isnt a fluke and run with him the rest of the year and hope I can make it.
