Jose Abreu keeps breaking records
Coming into Sunday’s game against the Rays, Abreu had already set the new rookie record for homers in April, but now he’s set the RBI mark as well. The rookie April RBI record was originally held by Albert Pujols with 27, but Abreu is now at the top of the list with 31. As dumb as pace stats are, Abreu is currently on pace to end the year with about 60 homers and 180 RBI, which would be absolutely ridiculous. Abreu has already shown he’s a legit slugger, but I’m excited to see what he does when the air heats up and the ball flies a little further. Abreu is currently hitting .262/.330/.631.

Kyle Seager busts out
After looking dreadful for the first three weeks of the year, Seager has hit five homers in his last four games. Better than his hot stretch, Seager has been swinging and missing less this year, and he’s also been walking more. With yesterday’s game, Seager raised both his wOBA and wRC+ 22 points, but his batting average still sits at a paltry .228. Converting some gounders into liners would be a big help, but hey, homers also work nicely.

Matt Harrison debuts
Returning from a devastating back injury, Harrison threw six strong innings against the Mariners, striking out four while walking two. Harrison’s GB% was right around what we’d expect, but his velocity was a little low, which is not a big deal at this point. Harrison was an extremely productive pitcher in 2011 and 2012, and the Rangers will be more than happy if he can get back to, say, 85% of his former self.

Danny Salazar makes me happy
While this is certainly not the space to break down any changes Salazar made, it is still important to note that after struggling through his first four outings, his fifth proved much more successful. Salazar went seven strong yesterday, striking out eight while merely walking one, lowering his 2014 ERA to a crisp 6.04.

The Furious Five

SP: Tyler Skaggs, $8,000
Skaggs gets to face the Indians in L.A.

SP: Madison Bumgarner: $9,800
Bumgarner stays home and draws the Padres in this NL-West slugfest.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt, $4,400
Goldy faces off against Franklin Morales. The location isn’t really important, but it’s in Phoenix.

2B: Martin Prado. $3,200
Ditto.

OF: Wil Myers, $3,400
Feels right.

I’m an impatient Prince Fielder owner looking to trade for Jose Abreu 1:1. Not sure the guy will accept it.

If you’re offering him Fielder, he better not.

Well I’m thinking Fielder will have a better AVG, but I’m more than willing to accept a 250 BA from Abreu if he’s gonna hit 20 more HRs than fielder.

I made a huge mistake taking fielder. Dude has a guaranteed contract for the next 7 years including 2014. He has no reason to push himself hard. He really looks like he’s taking it easy.

Hmmm, this is interesting, If I offered Bruce+Abreu+Throw in for Votto+Stanton would I get laughed out the door?
