COVID Issues

Austin Romine was placed on the IL without a designation. This is the second Cubs player to hit the IL for an undisclosed illness/injury in the last two days. Keep an eye on this in case it turns into something in the last few games.

Quick Hits

Taylor Ward left Thursday’s game with groin tightness. He is expected to be shut down for the rest of the season.

Luke Voit was placed on the IL with knee inflammation. This will end his season and put the playoffs at risk.

Nico Hoerner is not expected to return this season due to general soreness. He is droppable in all redraft formats.

Edward Cabrera left his start on Thursday with a blister. This will end his season, but he will be an interesting pitcher coming into 2022.

Jesus Sanchez left Thursday’s game with a hamstring injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.

DJ LeMahieu left Thursday’s game with hip soreness. Consider him day-to-day, but it would not be surprising for the Yankees to rest him over these last few games with the playoffs starting soon.

Scott Kazmir left his start on Thursday with a hamstring injury. Kazmir was struggling in the first inning and would have likely been pulled either way, but this likely means a trip to the IL and not being on the postseason roster.

Various News and Notes

Jorge Soler went 1-for-4 with a home run in the victory over the Phillies.

Soler has had a tale of two halves. In the first half of the season, Soler was hitting .186 with seven home runs, but in the second half he has hit .263 with 19 homers. He will test free agency this offseason and will be very sought after with this huge second half.

Nate Pearson threw two scoreless innings in the loss to the Yankees, allowing just one walk and no hits while striking out four.

This is the Nate Pearson people have been salivating over for a few years. The hype will have died down a bit coming into next year, but if he is healthy, he could be a huge post hype sleeper.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
