Roto Riteup May 7, 2017

Another day goes by and Cody Bellinger is still hitting bombs. After taking over for Adrian Gonzalez who landed on the disabled list Friday, the 21-year-old posted his first major league grand slam and he’s only played in ten games this season.

Take advantage of him in the daily game before he becomes too expensive and highly owned. (Scratch that last part, he will be highly owned).

On the Agenda

  1. News and Notes
  2. Anderson/Montgomery
  3. Probable Pitchers

News and Notes

Mike Trout was scratched last minute from Saturday’s lineup due to hamstring tightness. Which means the world stopped for a moment. Tight hamstrings are as much a part of baseball as bad officiating this season so he should be fine.

Ryan Zimmerman. Still good.

Sean Manaea will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. In his last pitching session, he was hitting the 90 mph range. That regression is normal during bullpen sessions, and this doesn’t seem like a major slowdown.

Manaea has been striking out more guys this season. A 9.99 K/9 rate with a 3.32 FIP and is throwing a lot of groundballs, something the A’s are used to witnessing in teammate Sonny Gray. His velocity remained from 2016 and I doubt this situation will change that.

Ian Kinsler needs more time to deal with his hamstring. He was out of the lineup Saturday and more than likely the same scenario will take place Sunday with Andrew Romine filling in at second base.

Anderson/Montgomery

Brett Anderson could once again land on the disabled list after leaving Saturday’s game with lower back tightness. Mike Mongomery will more than likely take over the spot.

Do we like Montgomery? FanGraphs’ own Alex Chamberlain does and highlighted his potential heading into the season and even reminded the world of Anderson’s tendency to not stay healthy.

Montgomery is sporting a 1.29 ERA and a 3.75 FIP in 21 innings. He tosses a lot of groundballs and his hard contact rate shows batters aren’t powering over him. He will cost you nothing, but he does have a 15.1% walk rate this season so keep that in mind.

Probable Pitcher for Sunday

Tyler Glasnow vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Michael Wacha @ Atlanta Braves

Chris Sale @ Minnesota Twins

Trevor Cahill vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (Yes, I said it-DFS mainly)
