Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest

On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested.

Closer Chaos

Hunter Harvey blew the save on Thursday against the Padres. Harvey has been sharing the closer role with Brandon Finnegan, but this is his second blown save in the last ten days. Harvey has more arm talent than Finnegan, but Finnegan has been really good lately and could take a full time hold on the role.

Quick Hits

Ha-Seong Kim left Thursday’s game with a leg injury.

X-rays were negative following the game. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Brenton Doyle left Thursday’s game with a knee injury.

Manager Bud Black stated the injury was a knee contusion and he is hopeful that Doyle will avoid the IL. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Various News and Notes
Jake McCarthy is expected to be recalled from AAA on Friday. McCarthy struggled in the Majors to start the season and was demoted, but he was very unlucky with a .160 BABIP and when he went down to AAA he hit .333/.419/.533 with four home runs and four stolen bases. McCarty was a league winner for fantasy teams last season and could be again if he gets full playing time.

Kyle Gibson threw seven scoreless innings in the victory over the Yankees on Thursday allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out three in the outing. Gibson has been hit and miss this season and in spite of the great line, he wasn’t overpowering the Yankees, sporting just a 10% CSW on his sinker and an 18% CSW on his change. Gibson is mostly smoke and mirrors at this point in his career, but Camden helps hide a lot of flaws and he can be a useful streamer. Plus, this gives me an opportunity to remind everyone about his landscaping past:

Alex Faedo threw six innings versus the White Sox on Thursday, allowing two earned runs on three hits and no walks while striking out 10.

This is one of those games that shows you how good a Major League pitcher can be even when they aren’t anything really special. He had a 25% CSW on the fastball and a 20% CSW on the slider, but he just was pretty sharp and mixing pitches well. Faedo struggles with command at times so I wouldn’t expect him to be taking a major step forward. He’s nothing more than a deep league streamer.

Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS)

Pitcher for Today: Jared Shuster vs PHI

Shuster looked pretty good in his last start and gets a Phillies team that has struggled versus left handed pitching this season.

High Risk Options: Brandon Pfaadt at MIL, Alex Wood at MIL, Patrick Corbin at KC.

Pitcher for Tomorrow: Brady Singer vs WAS

Singer has been up and down this season, but this is a really nice matchup at home.

High Risk Options: Michael Lorenzen vs CHW, Dean Kremer vs TEX, Brandon Williamson at CHC, Garrett Whitlock at ARI, Jameson Taillon vs CIN.

For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from my recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”

I would stream Corbin over Shuster but that’s a tough call either way.
