Roto Riteup: May 20, 2022 by Justin Mason May 20, 2022 Seems like a fair trade: the sixth tool is being able to catch home run balls in your hat pic.twitter.com/XkiwmEo9I8 — Cut4 (@Cut4) May 18, 2022 On the Agenda: Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest COVID Issues Quick Hits Various News and Notes Streaming Pitchers Sleeper and the Bust DK Contest On most Tuesday’s and Friday’s and some other days, Paul Sporer and I will be doing a $5 draftkings game for anyone that is interested. COVID Issues Jean Segura was not in the lineup on Thursday because of an illness. He has not tested positive for COVID as of yet, but this is something to monitor. Michael Taylor was placed on the COVID IL. No word yet on whether this is a positive test or just symptoms. Quick Hits Max Meyer was placed on the IL in the minors due to an ulnar nerve issue. This is really disappointing news as it was widely rumored that he could make his Major League debut this weekend. Chad Green left his appearance on Thursday with forearm soreness. This is very concerning, but consider him day-to-day at this time. Jose Ramirez left the game Thursday after fouling a pitch off of his leg. The Guardians have already ruled him out for Friday, so this is concerning. He is expected to undergo further testing on Friday. Tyler O’Neill is expected to be placed on the IL with a shoulder injury. There is no timetable for his return at this time. According to manager Buck Showalter, Max Scherzer will miss approximately 6-8 weeks with his oblique injury. Various News and Notes Nolan Gorman is expected to make his Major League debut on Friday after Tyler O’Neill is placed on the IL. Nolan Gorman leads the Minors with:🔹 11 HR🔹 16-game hitting streak cc @Cardinals pic.twitter.com/Afl5tIpd4N — Minor League Baseball (@MiLB) May 1, 2022 Gorman has crushed AAA this year, hitting .308/.367/.677 with 15 home runs and three stolen bases in 34 games. Gorman is one of the top prospects in baseball and will be the top player on the wire this weekend, but he does have one glaring issue: strikeouts. Gorman has struck out at a 34% clip while in AAA which means he has a ton of risk once he is up. I love him as an upside play, but he could follow the footsteps of Josh Lowe who flamed out in his first go around earlier this season. Trevor Story went 4-for-4 with three home runs and a stolen base in the victory over the Mariners on Thursday. hahaha the Mariners call was perfect. What a night for Trevor Story. pic.twitter.com/x1JvIdNyO3 — Jared Carrabis (@Jared_Carrabis) May 20, 2022 Story had struggled mightily this season, so this was nice to see. He raised his wOBA from.279 to .324 with the huge night. There was some regression naturally coming by leaving Coors, but tonight is a reminder that there is still a ton of talent in his bat and he is still a borderline elite player. Streaming Pitchers (Under 50% in CBS) Pitcher for Today: Jakob Junis v SD Junis has pitched well and gets a Padres offense that has struggled in May. I actually like all the “high risk” options. High Risk Options: Daniel Lynch vs MIN, Chase Silseth vs OAK, Humberto Castellanos at CHC, Tyler Wells vs TB, Devin Smeltzer at KC Pitcher for Tomorrow: None Some interesting high risk options, but not many I really trust. High Risk Options: Michael Lorenzen vs OAK, Patrick Corbin at MIL, Kyle Bradish vs TB, Johnny Cueto at NYY, Alex Faedo at CLE. For those of you that would like to see how these picks play out, I have a doc I put together to track the stats from the recommended pitchers. It does not include the “High Risk Options.”
